I miss the Astro/Safari Small vans, Any chance we could see a come-back of these vans but in electric versions? Don't like the box-like look of the new model Express vans, got to go back to the 2004 style, those were nice looking vans. What do you guys think?
You're funny. All I asked you to do was explain your claim. I would think as an "automotive engineer" you would be a little more educated. I guess not. Looks to me you have to get the last word in so I am sure you will reply with yet another dumb ass post. Boys like you are good at hiding behind your computer spouting stupid rhetorical BS that has no grounds in reality. Get a life loser..
the VOLT will be subsidized by Taxpayers[government] offering a $7K tax crredit to become affordable
there is no way an average middle class can afford this vehicle today . middle class are NOT even buying japanse cuase they cant afford a camry or corolla they are buying kia and hyundais thats reality if you know what that is !
GM says: "if German Opel employees go out into the streets because GM to take the piss out of Germany tried and thus wiso on Opel shits, they let if necessary Opel go broke!!
What a commercial strategy!!
Germany must simply take away GM the Opel enterprise without paying a cent, because such shops are purblind and on cost thousand mark notes. Although, I would say, those undertake like GM must be stripped of power in general!
It's a great day folks! GM, the UAW, and it's multitudes of uneducated workers are FINISHED!
Decades of making shitty cars, fighting every safety measure, and being all-around demanding and spoiled workers has finally come to bite them in their asses.
The Volt is a JOKE. Only a handful of yuppies will buy them.
Big oil and the car companies are in cahoots. As an automotive engineer, I can say we had the technology to make cars that could attain 40MPG back in the 1970's. They don't want that. They want us to get LESS MPG and buy MORE gas! Just like how they add ethanol to gas because it lowers your vehicles fuel efficiency, yeah that's right, Google it.
@RayAir1 I am proud to say I am one of those "Yuppies" Say what you want but do the world a favor and try to educate yourself on facts about the Volt before you bash it. People like you are bashing the Volt because it has a on board gas engine. heres the deal. I drive about 40 miles a day to and from work. Over the past 30 days I have owned the Volt I have driven to and from work and to lunch on all electric. Then on the weekend if I do a long trip I can still use my Volt.
@RayAir1 Please explain or are you just another internet asswipe? I tell you what spend some time in combat in Iraq and if you come back with the same oil hungry views I'll take your point a little better but until you do that or find a better answer, that is realistic, to easing our dependency on imported oil why not try taking some type of action instead of always complaining or belittling people that are actually trying to make life in this country a little better for us all.
@RayAir1 HAHAHA!! You could have just said that you are just another jackbag that talks out his 4th point of contact.. Apparently you have nothing to back up your claims so instead you choose to insult when asked to prove your point. Have a nice life and maybe try to find some basis for your BS before you continue to make an ass of yourself.
@RayAir1 Your too funny. All I asked you for was something to support your claim. I would think being an "automotive engineer" you would be better educated but I guess not. I can tell you have to get the last word is so I am sure you will reply with another dumb ass response.
The Volt is nothing but a marketing tool to try and get people to buy gm products. You watch when it comes out its going to be over priced, and GM is going to release this savior car before all the testing is complete. It will be a typical GM product with may problems, recalls, and issues. IMO it will be over priced and the cost of fixing it will be more than what a new one costs. Sorry GM, No thanks I will wait for Toyota to come out with one.
"In my opinion"? Man, I'd love to have the crystal ball you apparently own that lets you know both the intial retail price AND the cost of repair of a vehicle that is more than a year away.
It is IRONIC...that they are touting its quietness etc, they've already been here. They had a car that had similar traits.
I guess Tesla should stop making their all electric roadster as well ? Is it practical ? economical ? its about the idea and what it represents. Where it will evolve the automobile, where trends in the industry are going.
I'm not blaming...I'm wishing GM would have had the pioneering spirit then because the VOLT would be much more advanced NOW. Understand yet ?
I 100% agree in the sense that GM could be much more pioneering than it has been, but i disagree in the sense they still rank very high, if not the highest, in green technology. Thankfully, this is how the president is asking them to restructure. I still do not agree that they have already "been there." The EV1 may have been quiet, but it was not pleasant to live with on a daily basis like the volt, tesla or any electric car of today. It was owned by enthusiasts and activists that talked it up.
Who builds a full BEV with an on-board charger for unlimited range? Nobody. GM will be the first. The car will also be practical, like the hybrid-only Prius.
They pissed me off with what they did to the EV1, but the EV1 and all of the things they learned during the Impact program live on in the Volt and it's Voltec drivetrain which will be spreading to other cars and platforms.
Awesome. Its the EV2 ! its not fascinating. You did this 10 years ago with the EV1...and instead of looking forward and evolving the technology you sold out and made huge SUV's. You should have been here a long time ago GM...you deserve to be where you are.
Are you always this full of hot air? You can play the Armchair CEO "you should've innovated" game all you like but that's just one business model and its a risky one. Don't even pretend all those "innovative" companies are for a second the most successful. But nah you jokers just shoot out of nowhere with "if they'd have been the first to do this or that they'd blah blah blah..." give a rest....
you obviously aren't as well versed in marketing and economics as you are the blame game. Comparing this car to the EV1 is rather ignorant of the reality that the EV1 was not a practical car and would not even be a consideration for the average person. I would never even consider owning an EV1, I would however at least give this car a test drive.
I miss the Astro/Safari Small vans, Any chance we could see a come-back of these vans but in electric versions? Don't like the box-like look of the new model Express vans, got to go back to the 2004 style, those were nice looking vans. What do you guys think?

Good for you. You can join 0.1% of the population in owning a Volt.

@RayAir1 Thanks. I'm happy I could be part of that 0.1%. Win or lose, It's always great to be a leader. :-)
