@SavaEfendi You are so right about this, exactly what I see in it (I've practiced judo for several years and now Aikido for 8 years). But... I've seen this move being performed as koshinage here on youtube a few days ago by a 6th dan known as Penny Bernath from florida Aikikai. I still believe it's judo, but seems to be accepted as koshinage in Aikido as well...
of course it is aikido.u dont see the arm deflection?judo has hip throws karate has hip throws jujitsou and brazilian jiou jitsou has hip throws and other martial arts has hip throws.so aikido has hip throws too.
@ILiasMani ok, I will deflect uki's arm and perform an iponseonage (judo and ju-jitsu) and the armdeflection will make it Aikido... Or maybe an O soto gari or tomoe nage
yes u are right my fault..but u know that throws are effective in aikido like tomoe nage or osoto gary because of the arm deflections it is easy to throw someone!
@ILiasMani I think we are both right. I have already seen this throw performed by other black belts up to 6th dan. even a woman who is known for really very beautiful Aikido: Penny Bernath. I think both are accepted to be Koshi-nage, I guess I made the biggest mistake by not getting informed properly before reacting (one of my flaws), so I'm sorry for that
Sir, DON'T watch the floor or uke's hand while doing the Tenkan, watch the horizon as you turn. It will keep you centered. Also lower these shoulders.
he is probably a very good black belt (sensei) but his hip throw is not 100% correct (his leg posture, etc, center of balance). I am judoka and this is a very common mistake even in Judo or Sambo. But still, very helpful to learn this, Aikido is beautiful.
@pcjudosambo His feet are too far apart. The throw happens on the step but you don't want to have to step way out to make it happen. Compromised your balance as you say.
@dobberdoss Seen many Ryotedori attacks in MMA? Why would you do a nice thing like this when the objective of MMA is to pound the head into unconsciousness? MMA is not self defense.
really?, nobody uses aikido either cause it does not work in real uncontrolled situations. Nobody grabs wrist, no body runs at you and grabs shoulders, nobody shomen strikes or yokomen strikes etc etc. Not so much an matial art form , more like a dance form, or ballet
Ooohh, that looks like you can easiely hurt yourself. You're using to much energy, it looks more like a "heave-ho" technique. Your center is to high, and his is to low, it should be reveresed. He could stop your technique by just dropping his center just a bit more. A good / proper koshi-nage should be able to be done without the uke even touching your body.
You could give a punch, however one of the goals in aikido is that you not only protect yourself but also the person attacking, so you normally don't strike. The attacker doesn't get a chance to give a punch because you've already closed to the distance for him to land something. But the beauty of the art is that if you felt the attacker would never stop, you could cause send them to the hospital real quick. But that's only for worst case scenario.
Well i do agree that this throw has allot off common to ogoshi. Back in the days when aikido was a young martial art allot off judo-students whent over and started pratice aikido which means that judo has influenced aikido allot.
Aikido and Judo come from similar backgrounds with different influences along the way. It's definitely not a hip throw that you see in Judo, it's a throw performed from the koshi-ita of the Hakama. If you rest your Uke there and you are in the correct position, you will be able to simple turn your hips and Uke will fall and roll. It's not about throwing your Uke over your hip.
of course, the secret is in the hip. To execute koshinage you must put your hip lower than the attacker hip and rotate your torso while atracting uke body to your center of gravity. Just only Physics
Yes you can...but I wouldn't do it for real. When I was teaching one time I did a koshinage to a dude who weighed in at 375lbs. I did this just illustrate it's not about strength but about leverage and proper body alignment. Again, no way would I have done that in a street fight though.
Keep in mind here fellas that I wasn't trying to teach "street effective, combat style aikido"...I was just teaching a very quick, small technique. This section was about koshinages, or hip throws. Yes, there are lots of ways to counter, defeat, reverse, etc. But isn't that true of everything? If my opponent is stronger, faster, better...I'm probably going to learn how to bleed better.
Not trying to start a fight.... :) we are on the same team..... I do krav maga and box as well so I am biased towards striking and kicking to enter for nage or otoshi... I guess I am not patient enough to master the nuances of Aiki.
CDBigShow The key to beating BJJ is to be better on the ground than they are....Tenkan isnt gonna do much of anything against an experienced fighter. "aiki" is mostly helpful in nage/Tori's Taisabaki and maai. Do'nt be mistaken in thinking your gonna "blend" with an attack. 10 years of service in army and five years of bouncing has taught be that an attacker is not gonna cooperate with your technique.I respect Aikido for its grace, but I find jujutsu proper to be more effective on teh street.
what happens when you go to flip him over your hip and he like eye gouges you or grabs your throat and you go down with him.. or he rolls over your back and grabs your neck...then your fucked
@noobiekookie i've heard tatami make this sound when something drops or slides on it... so it could have been a sound from sensei's feet moving on the tatami. If you closely look at 0:36 and 0:37 he makes that sound as well (because of his feet). So he did not fart, it's the tatami.
That's one shiny head!

what is in a name? Even inside Aikido, names of techniques often overlap. Inside Judo, too.
Nice demonstration, anyway. And the fart was just an added little touch :.)

@Derukugi2 the name doesn't matter, only the technique is wrong and not what they say it is...
Absolutely no Aikido

The technique is not "wrong" and it definitely is Aikido. If you prefer another version is up to you.

@pcjudosambo Judo and Aikido have many similarities. Obviously, since Aikido, Jujitsu and Judo are all related.
But there are minor differences in how they do certain things and they tend to look "wrong" to a practitioner of an other style.
But of course you would have to test it all on the mat. :)
I like to get experienced people from other MAs to train with. Widens the view big time.
