I've messaged you a proper reply, for everybody else let's just say that my video camera was broken so I had to use what I could get from the internet.
Most of the video on our channel were made for youth groups at our church.
Sorry you feel that this is pointless. I can only say that I find the bible relevant. Through it I've had personal expirience of God and that has changed my whole life and I use videos to share that with people.
This discussion is pointless. It is very likely that I am not the only one 'misunderstanding the video', unless you find a different.. a better way to express your point.
With the greatest respect, I think you misuderstand this video. The commandment isn't "be thankful for what you've got". It's "Honour your father and mother so that you will live long in the land". Basically: how you relate to your parents will directly effect your quality of life.
Those of us who've had issues with parents know that they don't just go away. I think this teaching is very contemporary because I can see the truth in it working out through my family and friends.
Hello again BrainDeath. I found your comment interesting, but I think you are over looking an important fact: everybody had 2 parents at one time and most of us carry issues relating to our up brining into adulthood. For this reason I think this commandement has something to say to anybody at any point in the 3000+ years since it was written and will continue to do so.
I have a good relationship with my parents, in case you are wondering, but having parents is inevitable (child growth in vitro is still not too generally accepted). Why would one be thankful for something that you have no choice but having, excluding the children who never get to know their parents, or run away because they were mistreated by them. It is like being thankful for having a head, two hands, and two legs. Of course if don't have that, God probably wants to punish for something..
Families vary in form and function throughout history. There is no such thing as a 'traditional family' that 'God created'. What do you say about single parent families, parents that raise their children to think their equals, extended families where children are raised by aunts/uncles or grand parents; adoptive parents, or yet, surrogate or same sex parents? Are those created by the 'Devil'? It is true that religion teaches important moral values, but they way in which it does so is misguided.
Sorry you feel that way BrainDeath0157. But.... do you really have a problem with children being encouraged to respect their parents? The family is a pretty universal thing, whatever your beliefs or traditions.

The Bible is irrelevant.

Re: your last point about disabled people being punished by God
- where did you get that from?
It's not in the bible.
