  • Very well done! It does seem a bit rushed, though. Especially after the long notes, he goes into the next phrase without any kind of breath. I recently learned this on electric bass and posted a youtube video of my playing. I transposed it to D major to better suit the standard tuned 4 string bass. I try to use hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides to imitate the cello bow on the slurs.

  • Wow!!! This guy is amazing. He must be one of the top 3 cellists in the entire world.... anyone agree or disagree?

  • Haha, well sadly, he's passed away now. But yes, he was one of the best around. :)

  • Bravo! Everytime I hear Rostropovich play on youtube, I always seem to find myself clicking on the fifth star... Wonderful!!! Rest In peace!

  • he is so cute! i love him!!

  • lol wtf???

  • yeah wtf?

  • uhhhhhh????

  • yeah, i noticed that too, jeliff... strange

  • did he add an extra 3 notes in measure 31? they're not in the barenreiter edition...

  • yea, in the last few bars of the second half, he adds an extra beat's worth of notes. . . both times too! I mean, if anyone in the world is allowed to do such a thing, it's Rostropovich, for sure, but how weird!

  • His trills are like a steam roller... gees!

  • *piece

  • Another gorgeous peace.

    Rest in peace, maestro.
