I think Mr. Aamir Khan is making a fool of himself by commenting that no strong relationship exists between the story of the film and the book, 'five point someone' without even reading the book.. I read this book in the year 2007 and I can vouch for the fact that the story of 3 idiots is based on Chetan Bhagtat's book. Attempts to trivialize the work of Mr. Chetan Bhagat shows sadly shows respect Mr. Aamir Khan has for literature and writers.

lol so I read the book and saw the movie..apart from the whole issue about the contract and credits and everything...the movie was far better than the book....the main characters of the book really did not have much in common with the characters in the movie./..there were a couple of borrowed dialogues maybe but thats as far as the similarity goes..personally i'm not a big fan of chetan bhagat...he needs a good editor....oh n the whole iit thing is also a borrowed concept..but thats it really

To HIMSPATS: But I have read the book and there are quite a lot of differences including the main message of the film "Follow your excellence and success will follow you" and the spine plot of the film: the two idiots trying to find Rancho.

And I am not linked with the filmmakers. As I said before, maybe they should have put his name in the opening credits, but why is Chetan making such a big deal out of it? He should talk to the filmmakers instead of using the media to exploit the controversy.

The film is quite different from the book. Go to VVC's website and check it out yourself. So that is why they have an opening credit saying story by Joshi and Hirani. Maybe they should have included Chetan's credit at the beginning (even though it is there in the end credits), but usually a "based on novel" credit is given at the end. And as per the contract, it does not say that a credit will be given at the beginning. If Chetan was not happy, why did he sign the contract?

I can understand a writer's emotion (specially a good writer like CB) about his brainchild and why he is upset, but still I feel that what he did is not ethically correct. He openly lied about not seeing the script, not seeing the premier and about signing any contract in his first few interviews after being quiet for 7 days after the film release.

it was chetan's mistake to fall for the false verbal promises given by team vvc, and so overlooking the exact details of the contract. but the fact remains that most part of the 3i story is originally chetan's and some parts(basically filmy masala) have been added by hirani and joshi. the copyright law allows 3i to use the fps story, but does NOT allow them to sneakily pass off 3i as their OWN story! thats what team vvc has done n is against the copyright law, OVER AND ABOVE the contract.
