  • my left arm constantly feels like its about to fall off. i'm only at around tempo 160....dear god.

  • @18nationarmy Thanks! And same here. I'm playing the Farewell in a concerto competition in 2 weeks, and I really don't see myself getting the tempo any higher than where it is right now (160) UGH!!!!!!!!

  • I'm working on the 4th movement right now, and I'm trying to decide what type of mallets to use. Any suggestions?

  • @ZubinHathiPercussion i'm working on the Farewell as a senior solo as well...i'm currently using a fundamental series innovative percussion hard marimba mallet (purple yarn), and they are light and have a bite, so i might just use those. if you are willing to shell out some money, i've heard that the marimba one colin currie ccb3 mallet works well too

  • *speechless* im playing this for my senior solo, for high school. god save my soul, i can only hope to play half as good as she does.

  • Superlative

  • so... she is taking the fourth movement at quarter note = 200, im crying alittle bit inside right now, im currently at quarter note= 174 and the tempo Ney Rosauro put is quarter note= 192. Damm I've still have my work cut out. I don't know if grip is a factor with speed, I'm currently using steven's grip.

Does anybody know what mallets she is using?

  • @yellind1 I'm playing the first movement right now, and i use stephens, from what ive seen the only advantage over traditional or burton (which i use a bit) is that when you have 2 mallet runs you have a lot more control of individual mallets in regards to 2 mallet runs, but in terms of 4 mallet playing as a whole, stephens, for me, has proved to have more versatility because it allows for better independent movement of all four mallets.

  • Yes she can hear. A friend of mine is a somewhat bitter rival of hers and I prank called her back in 2001. She can hear well enough. After six years of marching band, rock bands, drum corps, and 7 years in the Marines I have documented "significant hearing loss" and I still hear more than most people. Oh, and the grip is "crossed grip" a mix of Burton and musser. The sticks are crossed the opposite way and long mallets are used to choke up.

  • @infinity182yahoo i have a veryyyy hard time believing you. and also her grip is called traditional grip...

  • yo amo a esta mujer *--*

  • A Marimba concerto is already rare, and with a deaf performer makes it more rare. Outstanding! regardless of the special condition, it's just perfect.

  • Love that 22/8 rhythm.

  • i burst in tears knowing she can't hear most of this.

  • @MrKendrum Don't. She experiences music through her whole body and feels a deep connection to it beyond just listening. I cry knowing most of us will never know what she knows about music.

  • @saotomi5102 the connection makes her performance so much more engaging. we definitely get a glimpse of how she feels. everytime I watch this i see the warrior that has fought the battle and see the beautiful harmonies flourishing out, and I cry because it's so beyond what she can "hear"

  • @MrKendrum omg. she's not deaf.

  • @sicknutt the is : S

  • @PitKid1996: she actually is missing some notes...

what technique she uses? PRACTICE! she probably practices like 5 hours a day to achieve these skills.

  • what technique is she using?? how can she play that fast without missing notes!! AND SHE'S PARTIALLY DEAF! oh my gosh, beast? yeah, i think so.

  • @PitKid1996 looks like burton

  • crap

  • just outstanding love it ! <3 :D

cannot be acheived by anybody else

she really a genius of music

  • @Lewix995 I agree, no one else could play as many things way over tempo and miss as many notes as she does and still be regarded as one of the greatest of all time. It's amazing......

and before everyone starts in with the whole, "SHE'S DEAF!!!"

she's not, she has hearing loss and doesn't have all her hearing..... but she CAN hear.

  • io ti amo

  • Evelyn is so inspiring. I met her once a few years ago in Spokane and I'll never forget it. Cracked bar at 5:05?? Reminds me of her site icons.

  • really awesome

she plays it like it's nothing!

  • i love her eyes at 2:22 :)

  • I like the ending moment.

  • Amazing !!!! 1000 stars

  • I love this concerto, and she is so brilliant!

  • That was a really nice interpretation. I really like to hear different versions of the same thing, and I like them even more when that difference grows from my own interpretation... That's a really nice way to play Rosauro. ;:::b ;:::b two thumbs up!

  • She makes my heart happy.

  • evyy just love u sweet heart
