Strangely enough, no-one mentions the other theories. The phoenicians may have "discovered" America in 500BC. No proof. Leif Erikson was there in 1003. Viking settlements were discovered in New Foundland in 1960. Zheng Hue may have been in South-America in 1421. No proof. But we know that the vikings made maps, and Columbus/Colon may have seen one. The Vatican has viking-maps, but hid them away, as it was considered un-correct that pagan barbarians "discovered" the New World before Christians...
Documentary wrong again. Bartolomeu Dias spend 30 days without saying land west of South Africa in 1488. Navigators of Prince henry since 1436 (Portuguese official Discovery of Sargasso Sea in west Atlantic) and the "volta do mar" to Azores since 1440 to avoid contrary winds. Even the discovered Island of "Bacalhau" (Newfoundland?) in 1473(Corte Real) spent more days than it is said in the doc.before Columbus(learn History)
And much more inaccurancies, even about Cristovam Columbus himself.
The Santa Maria was a Barge adapted as strong Carrack (altough not yet a carrack as the ones of Vasco da Gama, Cabral etc.) and the the Pinta and Niña probavly adped ships as caravels, not trully as the Portuguese, but aprouch to them.
The ship in the video is not a caravel, its a carrack(with a latin sail as usually), The caravel have more latin sails, 2, 3 or more and usualy one round(square) sail in front.
Except the Caravela Redonda, a design of latins sails and round(square) sails, between the carrack(Nau) and the caravel and number of latin and square sails and size.
About the Caravel Redonda: between the nau (the carrack -more square sails than latin sails) and the caravel (a design to more speed and more latin sails) A mix ship in size, design and number of square and round sails.
In this documentary, when they show a map where the american continent didnt exist to the old world, they kept australia there. I don't know why, since Australia was discovered way after the Americas.
Calling the man a pidgeon (Columbus) is ridiculous. His name was Cristovam Colón, and for a historian to call him otherwise shows lack of knowledge. Does he really know who Cristóvam Colón was?
@9tiin Moron. When we say he discovered america, that means he was the first to report on the new land to a civilization that had writing and maps. Thats what it means. There were people here of course, but the civilized world didnt know of it.
@hannityforpres you're very ignorant saying that the Europeans were a "Civilized" world. I suggest you learn about the Indigenous tribes of the Americas... Just a hint, The Aztecs and the Mayans were lightyears ahead of the Europeans in terms of education such as mathematics (They didn't even need to do daylight savings time because their calender was on the spot accurate.) It appears to me that the only history you know is "White" history ;P Go educate yourself then come back to this argument.
@lastvaquero No your ignorant, the term 'civilized' since the time of the romans has carried connotation of comparison to western technology, culture and urbanization. Maybe their calendar was more accurate, I'm not an expert so I really don't know. But they still had yet to evolve from polytheism, or utilize the wheel. Just an example that levels of civilization are all relative if you compare them with one measurement. It's not debatable that the Spaniards were more advanced, it's a fact.
@ambwOnTheRun Civilization refers to having a city. Nothing more, nothing less, you stupid fucking liberal. Did the vikings have a city? No. So they weren't civilized. Why do you hate white people, you cocksucker?
@kreepeemann You're pretty pathetic to say the least and an obvious troll so I'm not going to say anything else to you but I just thought that you should know that your definition of civilization is completely wrong.
Free online dictionary:
1) the social process whereby societies achieve an advanced stage of development and organization
2)a particular society at a particular time and place; "early Mayan civilization"
@TehOwnerer999 So by your fucked up definition, learning to use a shithole is a sign of civilization? You see, dickhead, liberal cocksuckers such as yourself have an inherent arrogance when regarding non-whites. You think you have to portray them as something they were not. Read a book you mindless cretin.
@lastvaquero Do you even know what the word civilized means, you little asshole? You shouldn't hate white people. You need us to invent things for dumbfucks such as yourself. If the Mayans and Aztecs were so fucking smart, why did horses make them shit themselves? Fifty white guys conquered their "civilizations". Read a book, dickwad. Can you suggest any books written by your brain damaged ancestors? Or would you concede that their contribution to society consists of tacos and stupid hats?
@imhooks hilarious Ha! So true bro, "like dah columbus, like a der, umm.... ahh sun set in deh West, and rise in da East..." Ur so fukin right bro, Ha! doesnt make sense why wen ur looking fer the east would u sail so far west...!
