crazy :) potato cleaning is a very old system, when cleaning products were not available.
but this is not recommended as potatoes leave a lot of starch which would promote mould and insect infestation... as well as make it more difficult for conservators-restorers to clean your painting in the future. and i am sure you wont like this at all.
