  • Nice coz your using the cajon right...Good Luck

  • nice!

  • That is very good. I just got a CAJON last month and starting to learn it. this will help alot.

I am a drummer with 20 plus years experience, so I think that will help to master this wooden box.

    Keep it up.

  • haven't gone through all the comments, but I'm really curoius what make cajon this is. I'm looking ....and finding more types than I ever imagined. I really like the snare version, which allows you to turn on/off the snare.

    Awesome solo BTW

  • real dope man, inspiring :)

    thank you

  • real dope man, inspiring :)

  • cool!!I loves you!!

  • Nice Paul! I'm getting my first cajon next tuesday. I will definitely give some of your techniques a go!

  • Ironic that there is so much comment about correct technique and where the instrument has come from for something which was originally a 'make do' instrument. Traditions only evolve by somebody having a go and messing around. Other people listen to it and copy it and it becomes a style then a tradition.

There is room for old and new styles everywhere.

The style that I see this man play in is the way that all the cajon players I know play. The important thing is to make music surely?

  • If I could figure out how he does the finger roll/slap in the beginning and the rhythm he uses using the back of the cajon at 0:20, I will be a happy school girl.

  • HOLY SH*T, YOU HAVE STYLE. Thank you for expressing yourself and developing it with confidence. swag.

  • You sir just made me want to learn to play my Cajon better! Thank You! :D

  • theres no right or wrong way to play. Thats the beauty of it!

some of you peeps need to humble yourself, your obviously filled with envy and hate

  • awesome!

  • yeahhh great tune)))

  • Ginger pubes

  • 21 people failed at copying him.

Keep up the good work, it was a joy listening

  • that was cool. Like it young man. keep up the good work.

  • lovin the shirt

  • Luv' the way you play ;-)

    France

  • failed

  • @nasaiah20

for everyone who said this guy "failed" , you're obviously stupid. And If you are not mentally retarded, make a video of you playing the cajon. And i will go to your video and see if you are better than him, and if you aren't you get a shut the fuck up... and if you are (which i doubt) because you used the word fail, then you can tell me to shut the fuck up. Sound good? Mkkay .

  • Well said man... You play it in a different way but is cool! Good playing!

  • been watching your vids all day! I'm totally Jazzed since I'm getting one for Christmas (hopefully I can convince my husband to buy it early like we did the Wii last year....) I've been wanting one since i saw a bluegrass group using it a few years ago. I've been playing all kinds of drums eversince I could remember and I'm always playing on the steering wheel or whatever else my hands come into contact with (including other people's heads.) Your videos have been very helpful.

  • weak.

  • wow!!!! awesome!!!!!!!

  • fucking sweet dude

  • As I type this, 19 people disliked this video. How is this possible? Man, this guy just rocks!

  • Nice! :) I like it.

  • PHAT GROOVES

  • Wow... just... wow.

    ABRAÇÃO

    CAJÓN

  • nice shirt!

  • radge.

  • that's a legit cajon solo

  • Wow - one of the best I've seen on YouTube :)

  • Hello Mr Paul

I think this solo is pretty sweet and up there with the best on you tube (not hard however!!). I have a couple of years tabla experience, djembe skills and the new addition of a Cajon to my collection (man is this the drum for me!). If you live near Southampton then it would be a pleasure to jam. This is not a chat up line cos my waf is lovely. Respond if interested...

  • funky style!

  • what cajon does he use?

  • Love the cajon. Just bought one today and haven't put it back in it's case for the past 6 hours, having way too much fun. Anyways, great job.

  • very gooooood!!!!!

  • great... just f*****g great... realy

    good luck and keep drummin'

  • I've read in more than one place the cajon originated in Cuba...Cajon means "box" and the dock workers just started drumming on wooden boxes... but I'd like to hear more about this Peruvian theory??

  • During the Spanish domain the catholic church prohibited the use of drums the black slaves for considering them to be pagan; then they started using the boxes that they were using to sit down to do music. In these boxes her owners to receive her goods come from Europa by ship. This way the Peruvian booth(cajón) was born. Also they used spoons, little boxes of alms, tables, chairs, up to gourds; as percussion instruments.

Documents exist on the cajón from the 19th century.

    Regards from Perú

  • long live the peruvian cajon

  • Come on peruvian people! We all know the cajon is from Peru! But we can play the fuckin cajon as we want to play it!

In every cajon video there's some peruvian guy pissing people off telling them that it's from Peru. So what???

  • sick

  • A MASTER

  • harbi süpermiş bea... ellerine sağlık paul...

  • Paul, I saw you live at Sabhal Mor Ostaig with Nuala Kennedy and then with Fred Morrisson in Italy, I listened to what you did with the Old Blind Dogs and I think you're an amazing innovative musician. You give a special flavour to music, thanks a lot for sharing!

  • bahaha

  • great job. would rather listen to that than anything "traditional."

  • This is a great demo of the most versatile percussion instrument I've ever seen. Whether he is playing in a traditional manner isn't so relevant. What's great about the cajon is that it can do just about anything. I love it.

  • We are all different tipes of musicians, thats what makes it interesting.

I made this video just after I got a cajon. I have kept it here coz its popular.

I respect the traditional players and style I have spent my whole life repecting traditions and also trying to make my own sound and push things in a different direction. All this talk of "you must play in the traditional way" is so counterproductive to actually maintaining a tradition.

The tradition must evolve to be preserved

    Peace. P :)

  • tumbafan is a cunt

  • maybe, but a cunt touring all over the world playing cajon, and you friend don`t, jajajaja

  • A touring cunt? Awesome!

soo.. he plays the cajon like... american style... and.. it sounds good... so... don't say nothing...

  • i think while The peruvian cajon is being playing ...it doesn't discriminate ... the race... and culture... i'm peruvian . i feel very very proud watching an american playing peruvian cajon... also... music is music U__U !!!

    ...

    ...

  • He does not suck, he does very good

  • Hey Peruvian, the beauty of being a musician is finding your own style. What you're saying is that creativity is not allowed in music, that's bogus. We all know this is not a traditional american instrument, get over it.

  • why I think he sounded fine, he probably wasn't going for a traditional sound to his solo.

  • of course it sound fine but.... I think he hasn´t the feeling of a cajon player, it sound like a drums rate, i am from Peru and a musicion 2, so i know how a cajon player has to play It, is like someone is a bass player and star to doublebass the feeling its the same but both instruments is playing diferent with other technique

  • I see what you mean, but there's no denying that he's got a deep pocket.

  • you really come out sounding unnecessarily defensive alvarikoke. and it was more than nice. it was really really good. I also love the traditional way of playing it (i love our festejo, lando, zamacueca, panalivio and such) and this is why i like so much to learn how it can serve as a medium for new sounds.

    --

you have an amazing sense of rhythm drumdivot!

  • you rock

  • OMG! That's really cooool!!!!:-DDD

  • Peruvian Cajon

  • funky man

  • Life changingly amazing. I'm making my cajon first thing in the morning.

  • did you actually make one how did it turn out could you send me your instructions???

  • Put on a Peruvian tondero (or any negroide music from Peru) and then try playing it. That would be great. You still sound great however...

  • No es negroide, sino música negra. ¿O hay blancoide?

  • En el Peru, se le llama Negroide. Se le refiere asi a nuestra musica. Asi se llama. No es algo que llo invente.

  • nice groove. go jimi

  • nice groove. Go jimmi

  • the cajon is orginally from PERU 100% SURE!

  • My solos and rhythms are pure language, also they are a visionary expression, communication

  • hahahah towards the end you looked like you were going to orgasim. You were making love to that box.

Aside from explicit content you did a fantastic job. I might have to get one for christmas

  • Thanks for posting this. You are really good with Cajon. I learned a lot by watching.

  • i dont like how he plays it, the "cajon Peruano" have to be played by an African-Peruvian so as to know how the "cajon Peruano" should be played.

  • great now we have Cajon racism.....white people can play the cajon too *geez*

  • Don't listen to this idiot. Play the Peruvian cajon all you want. You're quite good at it man. Y por favor, youarewrong1, andate bien a la casa de la verga. Racista imbecil. kkthnxbai....

  • gooood guy

  • Na really....Gees a sang

  • Yay!!! loved that!!! :-)

  • good!

  • great! what kind of cajon do u play ? is ist a meinl?

  • Cheers man.

In that video its a De Gregorio.

  • Same discussion everytime there's a cajon video.

The cajon (square box-type) is Peruvian.

There is a separate, probably much younger cajon tradition in Cuba.

The cajon went to Spain (where it was altered) via Paco de Lucia's group in the late 70's.

Calm down. Music is supposed to bring people together. And music is always evolving.

  • Just look-up Cajon on the internet. It was created on the coast of Peru by the decendants of African slaves. In Cuba they have an instrument similar to the Cajon which they also call Cajon. But the Cuban version is totally different. Look up Cuban Cajob, you'll see its a long cylindrical wooden drum like the conga, not at all like the Peruvian style Cajon that appears in this video. The Peruvian Cajon historically pre-dates the Cuban cajon.

  • Gees a sang eh!

  • Wow!! Gonay calmdown guys!!! No fighting now........... I am sorry you have to see my face. Is it realy such a pain??? I will remember for next time :)

    Take care.

    Paul.

  • I´d prefer seeing more of your playing technique and less of your face!

  • Huitzlipochtli that s all the comment you can do? waste of time for you then u should go to school or shot ur head dumbass! why you look his face then? u r so stupid ! grow up pub

  • rednedtrab41 you are a fucking ingnorant, you don't know shit. how old are you? anyway you have no idea the cajon was made over 200 years ago in peru, every percusionist knows that, even cubans know that, exept stupid motherfuckers like you

  • hermitage29 is full of crap. the cajon was made because cuba outlawed congas.(if you dont know, Cuba was a dictatorship, and still is) they wanted a different soun d so they created the cajon...........

  • Are you American? mmm... you should read a little more and you will find out that hermitage29 is right, el cajon was created by afro peruvians when they came from Africa to Peru to become slaves, spanish peolpe didn't allowed them to play music so they invented different instruments like cajon.

It become famouse world wide when a Spanish Singer went back to his country , and introduce el cajon to the world in his music.

Cuba???? go to school please or try to read a little more.

  • you should listen this band called...NovaLima, that why that instrument was made for originally....

  • I play cajon too, but other style, afro-peruvian music, great that peruvian cajon playing is other places in the world...Viva el Perú!

  • Most versatile demonstration of a cajon i could find here - thanks!

  • Try playing Festejo or Zamacueca, man.

  • Yo yo!

Thanks for all the great response to my video.

damien4949... Sorry took ages but the Cajon i am playing is a De Gregorio.
