I have the same problem after a fully disassemly to fix a mic problem. A voice decoder chip replaced by a professional. Mic problem solved but this dead strip problem showed up. It is not always happening but after using 6-7 minutes it shows up. I've cleaned the touchscreen connector but it is not because of it. I think some heating IC causes the problem. Please share if you have an idea. thx

got the same problem, but i cant get to californa to get a replacement, (i bought it there) i live in sweden and here they say on the apple store that i have to go the the store that i bought it in. :(
Well basically there is no way to fix it, at least I don't think there is.
The only thing you could do is go to an apple store and get a replacement. It's kind of a common problem so if there's no other water or dropping damage it shouldn't be any problem. If your warranty is still valid of course.

Take your screen off clean the strip end wire and all attachments with cotton buds n wd40 and it will work 100% bum nuts

The second row down on my iPhone has a dead strip. Cant use 4 to 6 on the keypad. Annoying.
