They make for realistic mannequins, but their movements and expressions are woefully unconvincing. Humans are extraordinarily sensitive to the subtlest nuances of each others' physical language. I reckon it will take far longer than 15 years to begin simulating it.

Geminoid DK (the gray-haired male Geminoid) clearly looks the most realistic. To be fair, I also think it's the most recent, with the female bot coming in second.

I suspect within the next 15 years the movements and build quality will be so exceedingly convincing that we won't be able to tell it's NOT a human. ;) then we'll be moving on to developing general AI.

I agree with you on your first point, but the build quality is more of a physical cosmetic issue whereas 'general AI' is a problem for programmers. The ability to create physically life-like actions is not necessarily related to the creation of artificial intelligence.

@siciliano29 - the Geminoid DK is a magnificent achievement and it certainly looks the part but on the strength of this video its human-like behaviour is limited to head movements. Realistic full body movement may well be delivered within the next 15 years but to be convincing, a humanoid needs language and interactive social behaviour. I've seen no evidence that we're anywhere near solving those problems yet, after decades of research. People never fail to underestimate the difficulty of AI.
