  • When you people say that wearing a shirt makes you stronger, do you mean any shirt or is there some sort of special shirt? Because I've been lifting weights for about 12 months now but I stopped during the summer and I haven't been able to lift for the last month or so because of commitments at lunch time.

    I felt pretty good when I was going to try to bench 200 once, but I did it 5 times... If I didn't have a shirt on would I have done less? Or is it a special shirt :/

  • @ScopedPewPew hahaha. A bench shirt is a special designed shirt made of material and designed for experienced powerlifters to handle heavy loads. It can be made out of different layers or materials but all it does is allow the bencher to handle more weight, Without a "bench shirt" is considered raw. So you are benching raw. Keep benching raw and achieve a solid base before you start worrying about bench shirts

  • ehh ok, but lets see, the shirt adds from around 45 up to 100 pounds in some cases, and depending on your push from the very bottom, adding 2 boards can jack up your max a lot itself. Repost a vid without the boards and still having an impressive number, then i will like.

And yeah they will be able to total alot, but benching in a shirts a common thing to do in a pre-meet cycle, personally ive never used one.

  • @Travisk100 The reason why you can lift so much more with the shirt is because using the shirt allows an individual to training in a different fashion that you can not achieve without wearing a shirt. If you look at powerlifting videos (westside barbell method)....you will notice they have a very controlled lowering of the weight and a very explosive press. The usually start with a thicker board then reduce the board thickness until the point where they are benching directly off the chest.
