@Phil0185 Freemasonry is not the Illuminati. The Illuminati comes from books written by sci-fi authors in the 70s. According to any source which is not obsessed with Masonic conspiracy, The Great Seal (and the Eye of Providence, a Christian symbol) was made before the Masons started using it. You could have looked all this up yourself instead of asking the leading question "why?" and implying there's any mystery there to be had. Why did you ask why? What do you think is there? And I do admit I was wrong about the freemasonry statement but the group did have mason members. As I said, Das Racist sells the "Illuminati Pyramid" shirts, so he may very well be making that reference, but that's a bit of an assumption to make. It's also an assumption to call the Great Seal an "Illuminati symbol".

People believe in these things on faith alone, like religions, with no real proof or evidence, just a wash of insinuations. And the best part is that you can claim the lack of proof of the theory as evidence of the supposed conspiracy that keeps it all hidden. Conspiracy theories feed on themselves until someone winds up shooting people at a supermarket.

And the great seal is likely not to even be the Illuminati symbol, as I said, this was a month ago and I learned that during the 18th century the symbol was seen more as christian symbol rather than freemason. And the freemasons hadn't even declared that as an official symbol until 1797, after the symbol was on the dollar.
