He's an aquarium maintenance guy and most customers could care less if they have a properly sustainable system. They want pretty fish and a super clean, like new looking tank.
@sofreaking[dumb] I shouldn't even acknowledge your post but, you make claims about his hydrometer yet if you have watched his videos you would know that it is a new one by the looks of it as I believe his was different in his other videos not long ago. Also, he is keeping customers tanks, and not everyone wants a reef tank! I have yet to see your proof of his "jacking" of customers. . . Wise up man!
yeah but jim DOESNT properly maintain his swing arm, he just tosses it around in his bucket and it looks 20 years old. he probably still had hair when bought that thing.you guys need to go look at some real Reefs and some other "fish guys" websites and see how much better an aquarium can be. if this is all you have seen , sure you might thing this is great. but read a modern book or two, look around and you too will see this guy is a fraud ! hes JACKING these customers...
@sofreakingsad Whats really sad is that you have nothing better to do than slander (you called him a fraud) an honest and hard working individual either because you dont agree with him, have nothing better to do or becuase you have some hidden agenda. Sofreakingsad, you really live up to your name! FWIW, I have been a happy customer of his for more than 10 years and have nothing but good things to say about him. I have been in this hobby for more than 20 years now and have (see my next post)
@sofreakingsad As I was saying. 25 years and I have seen plenty of the "other fish guys" and let me tell you. Jim is the farthest thing from a fraud! He is as honest as they come and while he may be old school as some would say, he has always done a great job. Its "so freaking sad" when somebody like Jim spends his time documenting things to help others for nothing in return and a somebody like yourself has to post a bunch of senseless crap. Sofreakingsad, you are the true definition of sad !
@sofreakingsad Oh yea, one last thing.. I didnt see Jim promoting himself as LA REEF GUYS! He never claimed to be a reef expert so why would you even mention reefs in an episode about fish. Obviously you have some hidden agenda!
P.S. Didnt your mommy teach you that if you have nothing nice to say, than dont say a thing! Very Sad... So FREAKING SAD!
Continued. . . A swing arm is fine if you maintain it properly and know what your doing. If your just keeping fish or are not a major reef junkie you really don't need one unless you do sps. You seriously need to reevaluate your criticism of Jim's methods. How long have you been in the hobby I wonder?
@baldingfish[idiot]. . . amateur? Really? Your actually going to call a man who has been in his business as long as he (Jim) has an amateur? How many clients do you have, and how long have you been in business? Yeah swing arm hydrometers can be inaccurate but. . . .
do you HAVE to use a refractometer? NO. should you? absolutely. although you have to have an ACTUAL brain in order to use one. Hydrometers can be off by off by HUGE amounts from one to the other. Any real professional would know that. You and your tanks are SO amateur status its not even funny. Go on Reef Central and see what people think about your 'fishkeeping" business jim.... I cant believe people actually pay you , there are first year hobbyists who know more than you.
The way I see it, until any of these people run a business nearly as successful, and as long as you Jim, they have no room for criticism of any kind! Those that say your methods are old, fail to recognize how well your "older" methods seem to allow you to maintain one of the rarest fish in the hobby. Not only that but they don't see how things are different when running a business. Jim keep up your amazing videos and your positive outlook and keep in mind that some people are too quick to o
Jim that rectal thing was very funny but I have a feeling you don't like to take differing opinions or advice. When you create videos and post here you are more than likely going to get some unwelcomed input. It's the business I guess. Great videos!!!
I really don't like the bleach idea.Seems haphazzard and irresponsible. Bleach and any tank do not mix. Rock may look good but to promote this is only asking for trouble-imo.
hey I, "haphazard and irresponsible" ? first, these videos are not promotions, they are how I do things in my business, second do you really believe I would 'promote' something dangerous? obviously I am comfortable with it as I've explained in the videos, and this is the way I've been doing it since 1993 when I started aquarium service.... and no I dont like criticism, so remember I have the BLOCK button :)
@inthesump If you search the net, you will find tons of facts to back this: "Bleach dissipates quickly, meaning it disappears from the surface it's used on. As long as the bleach has dried completely the surface is safe to use." That said, the bleach used to clean things in our tanks is diluted in water. You soak the stuff with some bleach and then in fresh water then you let it air dry for 24+ hours. I clean my filter socks this way in the washing machine and never had an issue.
@inthesump Dude, hes been doing that for the longest time, i recommended this technique and videos to my friends and relatives and they love it and use his techniques!
You've taught me so much! I watch everything you post and pay close attention which is why my tank is so well managed. I'm ready to start a saltwater could you please do a current video on how to start one and what you recommend be used for beginners with saltwater tanks
I hate to pick on you but where do you pick up one of those rectal refractometers? Lol! No harm meant but I thought that was hilarious! Keep moving forward! Thanks!
It doesn't matter if you use a hydrometer or anything to measure the salt level. What matters is that your livestock is alive. Seriously. Good work gym, but I hope no one can go in that room when someone is taking a shower. Haha
Funkhouse his methods are old but most of the tanks he services are fish only and most people who desire a reef tank don't hire someone else to do it for them. That being said why change methods that already work for the fish only system
I know you have been doing this a long time, but it seems you are using items that were popular 15-20 years ago. You should really consider reading up on the latest technology out there, your customers will appreciate it. I could not believe a professional such as yourself is still using a hydrometer. They are so inaccurate, you should know better. You always comment that SO many people are critical of your methods, maybe its because they are Right?? time to update Jim !
people seem to think that new technology is going to be better not just on fish tanks but everything i.e. modern houses are not built as good as they were 10-20 years ago there is an old saying what isn't broke don't mend it! these methods that jim uses clearly work so why change them people mess around to much just stick to what works!
i dont think it has anything to with being a new hobbyist or not. I hate to be blunt, but you are kind of living in the past as far as aquariums go. I have seen all of your videos and you tend to use technology that is quite out of date. While i agree that it is the customers decision on what to go with, im pretty sure if they are calling you, that you have some input when designing these tanks. I couldnt believe how long it took you to get rid of that hair algae on that other tank....
good job i think a lot of new comers to the hobby will like it because its very information packed. I don't know if it was like that in the other video, but what happen to that butterfly's high fin? where the damsels the cause?
I think you do a AMAZING Job, I have learned so much from you. How are these people trying to tell you the professional how to do this...
