I installed PDA Net to my HTC Hero 2.1 (Sprint Phone Plan) and installed PDA Net to my Windows 7 PC and it works great! No, I did not have to root my phone or anything drastic. I did the trial version for a week or so, then got the paid version as it worked so well. It was less than $20.00 and My Lap Top works great with this. Check it out, if you don't want to root your phone. I hope this helps someone. :-)

@12kevingomez You should look at the xda developersa website or android forums, I will give you a quick answer: Rooting lets you have full administrative access to your phone, letting you move any app to the sd card even if not movable and it doesn't matter what android version you have, letting you delete system apps, and letting you install root only apps such as this one, and much more. The only downside is that rooting voids ALL warranty from your phone.

I need help, it said tethering managed to start but with errors, these are the errors from the log, Configuring Softap Failed, Starting Softap Failed, and Activating WiFi Interface Failed. I know I rooted because I used GingerBreak v1.10

@PIKACHU49386 If you have a bootstrap recovery flashed, go and wipe dalvik cache and regular cache, then re-install the app and try again. You may not have real root though, as I had never heard of your method before

@pandafloski As for GingerBreak, it's an APK that you download and install into your phone, run it (It's like a normal app), then it'll root it for you. Then your phone reboots, then there you go.

@petedog38 Q 1. This is a HORRIBLY redundant question. Seriously, I don't want to answer after having to read all of that. The answer is obvious. If it's temporary, then it will be gone on reboot. However, I'm guessing you use visionary, in which case you can make it temp root on boot.

Q 2. Also a stupid question. Rooting is SOFTWARE, not HARDWARE.

Q 3. people like you shouldn't have smartphones
