K, question. I only double track because I feel quad tracking would just clutter the mix too much. I know you've quad-tracked before, so I presume it's the same here. How do you manage to get everything so uncluttered in the mix?
@Shadow0876 That's what I thought at first so i'll try to explain. When quadtracking, you have to, this is the most important thing, play everything as tight as possible. When mixing something which is quadtracked, make sure you don't overdue the gain. Four different tracks mean you can use slightly less gain (this will result in some clarity). You also want to pan each of the tracks 100% and another about 70 - 80% each to the left and right so you'll end up with 100% Left and 70% Left.
@geoffreymiller9430 100% Right and 70% Right etc. EQ'ing also does wonders! You can use one of the double tracked guitars for each side for mainly low end or high end. It'll clean up the mix a little too. So do a low pass or high pass on the guitars to remove unwanted frequencies. Anything below about 50khz on guitar can be just about completely removed.
Should I just start recording my tracks dry and buy the POD Farm plug-in (still running through Gearbox) so I can screw with the amp settings if I want to quad track?
@Shadow0876 That's what I've been doing, it's very beneficial. I recommend if you start using Pod Farm that you start using impulses as well because you can always go back and change the cab or mic position. You can find some very decent free impulses. Google search "Catharsis Impulses" and download those. Those impulses are better than most impulses you have to buy, I'm starting to prefer those over Redwires and Recabinet impulses.
@Shadow0876 Yeah, I bought them too, at first they sounded good to me but I don't know, they sound boxy. Catharsis in my opinion, no offense to Recabinet, just sound a lot better for what i'm doing. They sound fuller and more realistic.

Yeah, I actually have the Recabinet impulses but never have used them because I couldn't get them to sound quite right.
