  • Fucking english title then french video FUCK!!!!!

  • I found Xandros to be not to my liking. When I read about a bug that causes it to fill the hard drive with junk, I installed Eeebuntu. Xandros certainly boots up and runs much quicker than either Eeebuntu or WinXP, but as far as usability goes, I prefer the other OSes.

  • I have had a 701 with Xandros for a while now and it is useless,,, Skype doesn't work even with the beta upgrade,, and can webcam will not work in chat.... I'm NOT a progammer just a user.. But i wold think the damn thing should work.

  • i miss the old xandros..:(

  • xandros sucks...i hate it with a passion

  • My EEE Xp takes about 40 sec to boot and than allows me to use the entire system- no lags everthing is loaded

  • what music is this? its amazing

  • music is lame

  • one more thing i forgot 2 add...i bet that EeePC with windows Xp from this video have only 512 DDR2 and manny programs in startup that make its work harder..i tell you mine runs so fast i optimized everithing from registry and i removed any unnecesary programs from startup...run > msconfig > startup

  • Lol no both eee pc's are have the same hardware and your missing the point. Not many people know how to use msconfig or even know what it is for that matter. This video is about the default OS with no optimizations and clearly linux is the winner.

  • this is bolshit..i have an EeePC with 2G of DDR2 667 and works realy fast..more faster than original OS that this mini palptop come with preinstaled..so that video tells me nothin..10x

  • Dude, It depends more on how fast your fingers are it seems. xD

  • This video truly gets me in a good mood. In conclusion, with windows it is always waiting, waiting and waiting...

  • Your comment should read "with windows un-tweaked it is always waiting, waiting and waiting..."

I triple-boot WinXP Pro, Eeebuntu v3 & Puppy Linux v4.3.1 on my Eee 1000 and Puppy is by far the fastest.

  • does it come with firefox plz reply

  • yes, it comes with firefox

  • It's only a PITA to install applications in the Xandros menu (you have to edit config files in bash!) and Linux doesnt have a safe mode. I had to reinstall mine when it wouldn't boot. :-/

Otherwise the little Xandros system is very nice. :)

  • @witchhuntprod:

Linux IS a safe mode :D

    linux all the way!

  • I never used Xandros (I triple-boot WinXP, Eebuntu & Puppy) but for you to say Linux has no Safe mode is silly. Maybe Xandros Linux doesn't, but every distribution I've tried does.

Also, re-installing is MUCH faster with Linux than Windows, ESPECIALLY if you have the /home directory on a separate partition.

  • lol yea and there is no virus that suports linux so u cant get virus

  • I wish that one were true dude, no Windows virus that can effect Linux, true... But you still have to watch for rootkits in Linux...

  • you can do soooo much on these little babys...

  • does it have a hard drive?

  • @izurz: Yes it does have a hard drive :)

  • Actually, the eee doesn't have a "traditional" hard drive. It uses a solid state (flash memory) drive.

  • Very interesting video.

I love my EEEPC and would never install any proprietary operating system on mine. This confirms that my decision to stay with Linux is also practical.

  • hey just wondering the eee pc 7 dont have a disk drive does it does this effect you in anyway?

  • well answer your own question if you haven't already. How often do you put CDs into your computer?

  • what's that song/artist?

  • kkkkkkkk good vid

  • Seems like he needs to do msconfig and disable bootup crap. as mine takes about 3secs when it gets to the splash screen after the first loading screen.

  • w/xp

  • You didn't Install a tiny version of XP...I suposed.

  • Hey im getting a asus eee pc 4gb & i was wondering if i should get the EeePc Xandros Linux or EeePc Windows XP.

I think i should get EeePc Windows XP because i dont know how to install sony vegas pro 8.0 on Xandros Linux.

  • it doesn't matter you can always install XP later

  • OK if you're seriously asking how to install Sony Vegas Pro you should never, ever get Linux. Plus, Video editing is not exactly what you want to do on a 7" screen with 900 MHz.

  • it look as if xp's firefox was not shut down properly

  • my XP boots on my eee pc in just 27 seconds after 2 months of use! and it's not nLited! It has no paging file, all documents and all programs installed on external 8GB SDHC

  • Ofcourse Linux starts faster. But for the most users XP would still be the better options. To install stuff is way easier on Windows. For most people getting f.e. Flash to work is impossible. Let alone the WMV-plugin for the brower, etc.

  • That was true in 2000. It is not true in 2008. Installing flash in Linux is as easy as installing it in Windows nowadays, if not easier on some distributions.

If you are capable to bend your finger twice above an mouse button you are set.

And WMV as a browser plugin? What kind of a craptastic page would use WMV?

I'm quite satisfied with my MPlayer Plugin in Firefox though, it might even play WMV, don't know because i never required that.

  • you obviously hadn't use it

  • I use the most userfriendly distro of them all: ubuntu. And still I think windows is just easier. Not because of it's design per se, but because of it's support, and the fact that most websites and third party-plugins are designed to work with Windows-systems. Picture your mother, do you really think she would have the same experience with Windows as with Ubuntu?

  • My mother is a happy OSX user. Install the same program in Linux as in Windows. Tell me which one was faster ;)

  • First of all, OSX can't be compared to Linux in terms of userfriendly-ness. Also, although OSX is based on unix, it's still a whole different deal from Linux. And the installing of programs in Linux is just the problem. Once everything is installed, sure, everybody can use it. But that goes for every OS.

  • If OSX can't be compared to Linux, then Windows can't be compared to Linux. Your logic fails.

  • I don't understand what you're saying, because the fact that a fair comparison between Linux and Windows can't be made in this respect is exactly my point.

  • Installing Linux is not really a problem anymore. Things have changed dramatically over the last years.

  • my parents are using linux because they never used windows... so when my father asked me for try windows, i installed it on a virtual os and he said OMG WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT??? yes, ugly, difficult to understand and crappy finally... and when i said "u must pay 100 bucks to have this system legal" he almost killed me hahaha

  • linux dont have any applications, im hopin to get one of these soon

  • What? Linux HAVES applicantios, or you dont know howto use Linux -.-

  • idrc at all i would request xp

  • the correct would be

"there is no so much application designed for linux" maybe it's ok, because there is no photoshop or adobe premiere, etc... but this notebook is not for video/photo edition, is a "pocket pc" for reading/writing in the subway or maybe programm... linux has a LOT of stuff, just some companies are not making soft for linux today... wait a little and u'll see ;)

  • the person that ran the windows one could be a nub and installed useless programs that could slow boot time

  • Does the EEE PC 4G 701 support 8gb SDHC Class 2 memory card on its internal card reader?

Please someone reliable answer my question. I'm planning to buy an 8gb memory card for my eee.

    Thanks.

  • Yes, the EEE PC 4G 701 has no problem with my Transcend 8g Class6 SDHC card. (Not class2.)

  • I's suggest an a-data 16 gb card. It's confirmed to work, as some cards don't strangely enough, and it's pretty cheap on most sites.

  • C'mon gmazin - I'm not refuting anything.

You stated that "Asus removed a lot of things at start-up to allow for it to boot so quickly." And yet you also state "XP is, arguably, more functional for a home user than Linux."

You are in fact saying that a stripped down version of Linux is not as good for a home user as a full version of XP, and I agreed.

I also stated that the reverse is true, ie: a stripped down version of XP would not be as good as a full version of Linux.

    It is simple logic.

  • Well that would be strange wording, but ok, w/e

  • "Xandros is a very stripped down version of linux" & "XP is a full fledged OS"?

Let's see -- Google servers (arguably the busiest on the planet) use Linux. But XP is a "full fledged OS"?

Your calculator is off by a fraction...

  • No, he means that the Linux installed on the eee is a striped down one. Which is absolutely true. Asus removed a lot of things at start-up to allow for it to boot so quickly. XP is, arguably, more functional for a home user than Linux, simply because of software support. But Linux is obviously better for servers due to security and customization abillity.

  • That is a bit biased gmazin.

You are saying that a stripped down version of Linux doesn't compare with a full version of XP for a home user, whereas the exact opposite is also true.

  • "biased"? What?

"opposite is true"? If you're going to make these claims, refute my points first, then support your own points.

  • Oops - sorry, missed. Answer is below...

  • My EEE PC 701 4g boots into the advanced version of Xandros linux (which is very easy to install) in 40 seconds. This version, which is not by far the best version of Linux, is still far more serviceable for my mobile needs than XP. I use it for work that includes web developing and teaching and have a host of related applications installed. No, I don't play games. But I do not want speed, portability and the limitless possibilities of Linux. The EEE combines all of these.

  • Whoops! I meant to say below: "But I DO want the speed, portability and limitless possibilities of Linux."

  • All of my previous posts were made wit hthe assumption that the user was using advanced mode (which is installed, just not enabled)

  • You have to take into consideration, Xandros is a very stripped down version of linux(which was stripped down to start with)and that the XP is a full fledged OS

  • i'll only be using xp on mine for emulated on school gaming! nes, snes and n64 :-) with a wireless controller. What ever flavour of linux i end up with it'll always be wuicker than xp! i know from my own dektop comp!

  • i have an eee too but xandros suxx, i'm gonna make xp on it, the fact that its slow after a while of using doesnt matter, i already know that from my normal desktop pc xD

  • GRACIAS POR TU VIDEO

  • XP shutdown takes sooo looong... Windows can't even crash fast :D

  • oh yes he can, bsod is very fast :D

  • synchronized powering up is good, but why did you not start firefox synchonized as well as shutdown machines? You degrade this nice test video.

  • I want Xandros EEE :-)

    Thank you for this video!

    A bas windaube Xp ! ^^

    Merci

  • Think different. Apple.

  • for the same price, you can get better, and faster used note book.

  • Moiu sur ubuntu et xp quand j'ai pas d'autres choix;

    Windows est tres lent pour demarer et s'arreter a cause de la gestion de sa memmoire virtuelle qui se fragmente au fil du temps;

    Et c'est surtout là que linux est superieur,il recrée une zone de swap a chaque demarage,et a l'extinction c'est kill all procces,c'est extremement rapide;

    Linus

  • rien a dire

  • Stop that music, it hurts!!

  • il en a 1 ki va plus vite ke l'autre

  • -_-"

  • NUL !
