As a teenager I asked the local music store for a copy of this and the staff member said; "Crazy what". He must have thought I was a Philistine. I think GW did the same trick when he recorded Dancing Tambourine; recorded 8' tibia and 8' orch oboe and octave down and at half speed, then the rest at the correct tempo. On a tape I have he told the audience that is how it was achived; Not easy; said he!
@The2010SnowDay : The combination in question is the 8' Tibia and 8' Kinura, played one octave down at exactly half tempo at 15 IPS. This track was then played back at 7-1/2 IPS to blend with sounds recorded at that speed.
On this number George is playing the 5 manual Wurlitzer from Paramount Theater in Chicago, which had been reinstalled in the Southern California home of Richard Vaughan, founder of the Hi Fi record label.
@rixarcade thanks for the info, but I am wondering what that sound at the very beggining is? Is it an electronic rank, or is it just a combination of acoustics and the staccato playing?
@rixarcade how marvellous to hear this gorgeous instrument is now lovingly residing in Mr. Vaughan's home~! My greatest hope is that the few remaining pipe organ artists and indeed, masters of the instrument, will be able to play it. It STILL is the KING OF INSTRUMENTS~!!!

What organ is this? It sounds like some sort of early analog hybrid organ, or is it a conn?
