Evelyn Elizabeth Ann Glennie , is captivating ..I can't stop listening..
It is difficult to comprehend ..all the beauty and mystical soul which is being generated here .. improvisation .....although she is deaf..Evelyn hears thee minutest creation of sounds the world offers..Love this composition..leaves me inspired and in awe.. also extremely humbled..
I am deeply touched by the prayer played by these two amazing musicians, and how Evelyn Glennie sublimely handles her deafness as a glorification of what is possible for the human being in its best performance
She actually *can* hear, just at a very low level that makes the normal sounds most of us hear indecipherable to her. She wrote an essay about it on her website. Still an amazing woman, who overcame a significant obstacle.
On one level, I neither know nor care how much or how little hearing Evelyn Glennie has, much as I don't care how many fingers Tony Iommi or Django had, or how blind Ray Charles or Stevie Wonder were/are, or how deaf Beethoven became, or how left-handed Hendrix was etc. The music speaks for itself through it's own beauty and feeling.
ive never seen more passion put into a video than this....what you do is special. do not discontinue its existance. i cant wait to appreciate the music you upload as much as u appreciate the song you just presented to my being.
Wow dude, you do just go from video to video talking shit. She's 80% deaf as of the Krot-Meller neural sensory test in 2009. You can't fake the results. Not that you'll actually believe any of this, bigot.
Thank you to whoever put this video back on YouTube. "A Little Prayer" is one of my favorite pieces, and this version with Fred Frith is the best one I have ever heard.

FYI Glennie herself is deaf.

Reminds me of Godspeed You Black Emperor. A lot. I am not "comparing" either of them to the other... just saying how I felt whilst listening.

Brilliant. Soaring, ethereal, tender, enigmatic, stirring, aural poetry, other-worldly. It's almost like a little prayer (sorry).
I'm sure Fred is improvising and I doubt Evelyn can hear (feel) what he's doing. Maybe she can, who knows.
Extraordinary nonetheless.
