  • Simply awesome song and video. Try as I might, just never got hair like Richard Ploog. ;-)

  • wow, great memories, cheers

  • saw them live le rox adelaide . loved it,long time ago now good days bad clothes

  • The last 5 post are the lyrics in order.

I love The (Fucking) Church. So many brilliant albums from one band, so under-rated.

  • God I've been asleep so long, I've been away Back from software limbo the natives call today I let their promises bind me The seductive logic blind me I embraced a machine, went through the routine I hid from the people who were trying to find me Till the day comes when you realize Otherwise you never care Pandora's box reveals a new surprise Can't wait to see your eyes Now you've been tantalized
  • A hundred and one voluptuous days I broke the law

The labyrinth was closing so we panicked up a door

I let their wanton flesh obsess me

Felt their dreams and drugs assess me

I was hired and fired yet never inspired

Flattering, chattering words to impress me

  • All that glittered had me mesmerized Otherwise I would have dared Guess the nature of our enterprise Can't stop to sympathize Now you've been tantalized I turned up in some harsh doomed city on another plane I couldn't believe the room I got, the guests I entertained I felt the dirty streets surround me Let the buzzing swarm confound me I gave money to ghosts, I insulted my hosts I could never get off the stuff that spellbound me
  • Till the day comes when you realize

    Otherwise you never care

Pandora's box reveals a new surprise

Can't wait to see your eyes

    Now you've been tantalized

All that glittered had me mesmerized

    Otherwise I would have dared

Guess the nature of our enterprise

    Can't stop to sympathize

    Now you've been tantalized

  • Saw the Church live at Perth's late, oh so missed! "The Shents", Reptile tour.Next to the Smithereens at the Old Melbourne, best gig I've ever been too...Loud!/,Melodic, Unfuckingbelievably good!!!!!!!!!!!...Just like the era.

  • interesting... very interesting

  • The more i listen to this the stronger the hold... this is one of their "magical" songs though faster and louder than most -- it's everywhere in the song but especially in the vocals -- the layers are amazing

  • Hearing this again just reinforces how bad the unbelievable fucking shit is, that the masses accept today as music. Awesome.

  • @callum710 Oh, my bad. I apologize for that!

  • @callum710 I didn't say the music itself disgusted me, I said it was the fact that awesome stuff was being rated lower than someone who has autotuned him/herself beyond the point of recognition. Said person also having not written the "lyrics" nor created the backing track, yet earning 35.5 times more than anybody with actual talent. (That's an awesome quote by the way!)

  • @callum710 I wasn't born in the 1980-1990s era so therefore if time travel was possible I would be going to a time that was before my birth. Me having not existed before April 1996, couldn't exist anytime before that. Yes time travel may be possible, but only to times within your own life.

  • Great! And Steve is very good looking. :)

  • i love smoking and listening to this album. i was in high school when this came out. it was like MANNA from heaven. their guitar interplay is brilliant (and not highlighted enough in the production) and the lyrics are generally very elliptical and strangely poetic. a good friend saw The Church open for Echo & the Bunnymen...I can only imagine how great THAT was!

  • Dnload the audio from this tune at searchripgrab doht cohm.

  • Not that great really? Have you listened to the whole catalogue & solo & other projects - I believe Steve Kilbey was one of the most prolific artists during the eighties.

  • @callum710 Hmm, fair enough, just not without its flaws.

    A) I'm not a drug addicted waste of oxygen.

    B) I can't go back to the 80's time travel is physically and conceptually impossible.

and c) People are going to be thumbing this down like crazy. D) I have plenty of understanding towards all kinds of music, meaning whatever you listen to doesn't fall into the same category as the former.

and finally E) If they weren't good enough to make anything good, why are you watching this video?

  • What an absolute aural pleasure it is to rediscover The Church all over again. Superb :)

  • 101 voluptuous days of listening to heyday - this is my favorite church album

  • Superb!

  • Crackin video, crackin song from a cracker of an album.

ARIA Hall of Fame....yes! About time for some proper recognition.

I recall yawning through the Melbourne Commonwealth Games opening four years back, and perking up when Under the Milky Way was announced... the crap coverage had the cameras cross to show the actual band playing for a few seconds shot during the entire performance. Piss poor!

Have loved this band since Year 10 1980 when I pretended to be 18 to get into a pub to see them .

  • hey everyone, Heyday is being remastered and reissued via Second Motion Records

  • the church will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame Oct 27th 2010!

  • Marty Wilson-Piper one of the greatest guitarist and talented artist.

  • what i dont get secondly

is that great albums like remote luxury didn't make it to their greatest hits album

even though most of the filler on the album is much worse than the earlier stuff

  • I could never get off the stuff that spellbound me???

  • Me encanta The Church, sobre todo Steve Kilbey, él es el alma del grupo. Son geniales. Lo mejor de los 80 y hasta hoy.

  • so good-looking, i'm tantalized!

    great 80's band!!!

  • @10LightYears The band is still around, and still making beautiful dreamy music!

  • @lovecell for the dreamy stuff .. after everyting, 2nd half of UninvitedLTC, andUntitled#23 arefantastic also authority, paradox, et.... masterful plus

  • Best song from The Church ever

  • Awesome!

  • Steve Kilbey ... you and me should be friends. Honest ... I'm worth it.

  • @LaStrega You can be... check out Steve's blog

  • I was born when this band was in its prime, but i don't mind.

thanks to youtube i can appreciate old songs that r new to me.

i stumbled upon this just by chance & i have to admit i am now a fan.

awesome guitar & drums,r they still performing does anyone know?

  • @AldarionErendis They will always perform!! Till the day they die!!! they are the best!!

  • Delicious, I love it!

  • The greatest Band ever...full stop.

  • This is one of my all time fave songs eva!!! Started Uni that year... undiluted awesomeness xx

  • The Church!!!!!!!!!

  • WoooW i grandi church, oggi, però, il loro stile musicale è cambiato

  • The Blurred Crusade and Heyday.

Two of the finest Australian albums ever.

    Period.

  • Punkpeterox: You need to move your complaining elsewhere, I seriously doubt anyone here cares about your juvenile ranting. Maybe you should talk to your therapist about your issues.

  • awesome song, great band.

  • one of their best clips...love these guys

  • im privileged to

    say that the

    first piece of

    music and my

    oldest memory

    age 3

    heyday

    and starfish

    ...

  • any one seen these guy's on there latest tour? I saw them in Brisbane at the zoo and was very impressed, but I think a lot of people were pissed they only played a few old school stuff. any thoughts?

  • they didn't appreciate it.

  • ha!, your too funny!

  • The Church to me were one of those bands you didn't really hear to much about but I liked a lot of their stuff.

  • had a friend that said this one song sounded like Echo and the bunnymen,,, i still don't see it,,, steve still has that haunting voice

  • Not only are they GREAT musos (& very easy on the eye), they are still producing great art 30 years on. If you are a SK fan, check out his channel (if you haven't already) & his blog/website of his paintings. Seen Mr Kilbey pop up in the odd short film too.

Going to see the Church next Friday......missing the screening of a no. of films I did cinematography on (& my own film) 'cos it's on same night & I refuse to miss seeing one of my fave Aussie legends...Oh well!

  • Thanks Bee for sending this to me I haven't seen this in a very long time! I agree with you and PM he is HOT!

  • MIND-BLOWING sound and a DROP DEAD BEAUTIFUL front man!!! What else can you ask for in a band??.... The Church were INCREDIBLE!!!!

  • i have been listering to this song every day for nearly a year now .its the best get me going song in the morning

  • Heyday is without a doubt one of the greatest albums ever recorded!!!!Long live The Church!!!!!!!!!

  • Love the wild energy of this clip. Such incredible guitar...

The footage has an interesting look. Was it shot on Super 8 or is this a post production effect?

  • Great band!

  • oh yeah love Luna Park and the Manly ferry in this. Steve at 3:15 is 'the man'.

"That's the nature of our enterprise"

  • Man, this and NSEW live . the best best BEST. Seeing them Dec 17. (for the umpteenth time in my life.) The rubbish music today makes me sad for the kids.

  • This is a great live Church track. The whole place vibrates to it.

  • @rushfan14 You should hear it live.

  • @gavgams

Saw the Church live in Pittsburgh in 1990. BEST FUCKING CONCERT EVAH!!! Got way too close to the speakers. Totally awash in music. My ears hurt for a week! AMAZING LIVE!

  • Nowadays what people call "music" is just ear damage, plagiarism, and gang advertising. I'm disgusted whenever I see actual MUSIC being rated a two on media player just because it is filled with guitar feedback and screaming. I wish Great stuff like this is still around on the radio.

  • Dido! And the rap makes me wan to puke. I think KIIS fm should shut it's doors and wallow in their poor taste of music

  • @REGIFISHY

    couldn't 've said it better,

    you're absolutely right

    even though i'm 17 now

i'm well aware of our negative evolution considering music

it's like we're just going downhill since 1990-1999

everything these days is just cheap, rip-off or catchy bullshit

  • @REGIFISHY

My grandmother thinks THIS is ear damage. It's all based on what you grow up on.

  • @REGIFISHY

I'm with you! the radio is designed for mindless drivel to be devoured by sheep these days. It's rare that one can find a broadcast station that breaks out...

  • @REGIFISHY: You have to turn off commercial radio and rely more on NPR and music sites; you'll discover that the best stuff never makes it to the radio. I'm gonna see these guys perform 3 albums in their entirety in a few nights.

  • @rullrich100 ARGH! Whenever they visit Oregon my dad sees them, but the 21 and over thing blocks out all of the good stuff!

WHY CAN'T THEY JUST SERVE SODA!

  • I miss the days when we had great bands like The Church and Echo & the Bunnymen on MTV, with shows like 120 Minutes and Alternative nation.

  • Yes, I wish I were alive back then

  • have to agree - EATB - loved that band. This song rocked and was sooooooo cool

  • incredibly underrated band. best of the world.

  • Sono d'accordo, Tarq! (I agree, Tarq)

  • Saw them once in the mid 80's, they sounded much heavier live, and they stole the show from the headliners (Echo and the bunneymen, who were no slouch either)

  • saw em several times.....fucken fantastic live..... ah the memories..... HEYDAY!

  • R_O_C_K

  • my song in jjj s hottest ever 100

  • A fucking MIND-GASM that's what this incredible song feels like!!!! I've always loved The Church and there's nothing that makes me more fucking depressed that having "missed" them in concert when they came to my "hometown"!!! And to add MORE fucking "insult to injury" they were touring with no other than my GOD= Peter Murphy!!!! ( and they were doing only one show that night and I couldn't get that fucking day off work, so I got FUCKED UP!!! and missed seeing 2 of my FAVORITE ACTS!!! ) Tragic!!!

  • sucks man!!! I would of love to see the church play live becuase my dad was Richard Ploog but I wasnt born yet.

  • Are you fucking "serious"??!!!....

  • echo and the bunnymen compared to this, hmm a tie , draw

  • Oooh, what a terrific, energy-driven song!!

The lead singer is ADORABLE! And that voice! OMG, so sexy!

  • i`m glad i`m not the only one who finds Steve very attractive :-) His voice and lyrics are unique (that`s to say the least)

  • s6ties maniac has got it right ,these should be massive, they are in my world anyway, love you church

  • I can't find this cd anywhere! Did they release one?? I'd ove to have a copy.

  • Amazon look like they have this still. The Album is Heyday, one of their very best (up there with Of Skins & Heart and their EPs). You will not regret purchasing this (I have this on CD, cassette !)

  • Yea, it's great - I've had the LP since it came out, but I could never find the CD, but I see they have it now - finally!

  • 101 voluptuous days..The Church have me tantalized.

  • please upload music or video of the church - no explanation.

  • That's what I love about youtube...get to find stuff I haven't even thought about in years...ah, the high school days...

  • @monster691

but... why did you ever leave it? this is soooo good!!! i still listen to the good stuff i heard in high school (alternative/grunge era), along with many others i should've heard in high school, but didn't cuz of lack of radio play (mostly British bands). I'm surprised i never heard this before '96 or so...

  • great band forever!!!

  • The church have been and always kicked ass. fuck the straights...as Kilbey puts it!! they are the best (but sadly)underrated band in the world... they should be up there and beyond anything in this universe..clever work SK and crew...miss ploogsy tho! lol

  • Ditto the LSD, paisley shirts and pegged pants for me....

  • "...101 voluptious days..."

  • Pardon the superficial comment, but it didn't hurt being a teenage girl when this was out and finding that every guy in this whole band was hot. Their albums were on my walls. We loved their brilliant lyrics and their looks.

  • mmm yes Especially Marty! yummmmmmmmmmy!

  • Listen to this song on a bunch of acid, and THEN it makes sense, along with the rest of the album.

  • love this song

  • Very underrated. Some of the best guitar playing ever!

  • This was my personal theme song in 1986. The funny thing is that I used to dress like the guys from The Church. Well, I guess some things never change.

  • Heh. I also used to also dress like the guys from The Church - paisley shirts, straight legs and such. And a lot of LSD, too. That helps to understand The Church, IMO.

  • Love the chimes and slow building interludes that explode into tight, dramatic verses.

Steve Kilbey wasn't Michael Hutchence, and The Church weren't nearly as marketable as INXS; but for mine they had similar musical tlaent.

  • paisley shirt - check

heyday in tape deck - check

    plenty of ecstasy - check

    those were the days.

  • Great horns section in this song too!!

  • heh heh ... I remember when paisley shirts (buttoned up to the top) were in here in Melbourne! ~kewl!~ now you've been tantalised ...

  • Fab. Love The Church. Always have. If they had been American or British, they'd have been enormous. But then they wouldn't have sounded like this. What a back catalogue... enjoy.

  • Thnks so much for the vid classic ozzy rock love it love em

  • amazing

  • so underrated

  • Heyday was one of the best albums of the 80s. Kilbey was at times arrogant about his gifts as a songwriter, but they were a good band! It doesn't hurt that they were some of the foxiest guys in alternative music, and Brad from Hoodoo Gurus, too. Australian alternative rock in the 80s was terrific stuff.--Ms. Pogle

  • My goodness they look so young! I realize this is over twenty years ago, but still it is a shocker!

  • Fbulous takes me back....

  • This is such a great song. I like that San Diego Tantalized live video here on the site as well.

  • From the best Church album ever! HEYDAY. Great songs, great sound.

  • For Church side project - Hex - search 'Thayer Hex'

For more Donnette Thayer search 'game theory'

  • This period of the Church is some of the greatest rock music ever recorded. Brilliant stuff.

  • gracias
