Can anyone help me? I'm currently wondering whether or not SH4 has a tutorial that actually EXPLAINS shit, instead of a tutorial that just tells me to do things without explaining how. Can anyone help me out? or find me a modding community that has made something like that for the game?
The SH4 manual says there is a way to change the name of the marks you place on the map, and also you can add comments. I haven't found a way to do this so far, and the manual doesn't describe it in detail. Is there a way to do it?
A guy I know used to sail on a submarine. The skills needed to get on one of those things are pretty damn high. He was required to do stuff like calculating an attack position in mere seconds. Ofc he had computers and calculators, but they're still able to do it just like they did back in the days. Theyre better at it, even.
Hey, for some reason when i go to either the radar or the sonar and press the On button nothing happens. It used to work last time I palyed SH4 a couple months ago, but is my game borked? :P
Thank you for the demo. You did an excellent job. Your video, video effects and time and effort to produce this piece are an absolute sign of dedication. I use the realism setting of everything off except outside view (not for targeting, for visual pleasure). So this video, is obviously for those who play at advanced levels, or want to get that far in this game.....Thanks again.
the idea is cool, but it sounds a bit far-fetched. Why do you insist on using the radar to stay at long range while you can also simply approach the ship at periscope depth and slow speed? when near the ship you can start using the TDC by identifying, measuring hight etc. and then fire a precise shot
@marty10009 the video shows how to get in a good position to do what you say (attack phase). It's unlikely that you can overtake a convoy undetected at periscope depth and get a good solution for the attack.
Thanks for posting this video, it helped me a lot, but I have some questions. How did you get the big compass around your ship? I can't seem to do it with the 1.4 patch, FOTRS, or NSM mods. I also can't draw lines in NM, only yards.
@tressis2 there's no radar available until mid 1942. Even if you can see the radar station it won't work untill you install it whe you are back in your home port, sometime in the middle of 42
The scale in the radar is in yards times 100; so the 300 mark is really 300 x 100 = 30000 yards. Now 1 nm = 2025 yards, so the easy rule is divide by 2 and by 1000 and you get the nautical miles. 30000 /2 = 15000 / 1000 = 15nm
Dude it fucking awesome. But takes FOREVER to learn. You really need to devote hours into reading manuals online as none are provided in the game (practically none anyway). The cool part though is that reading up on real submarine tactics will also help alot as it is stunningly similar to real life. Go ahead and get it but just know that its no run-n-gun action shooter.
mmm now i understand sorry.....:p

@krarpi I'm afraid the manual is wrong, there's no way to name marks or write comments in the navigation map

@taletoul Yes, that's what i expected. It's a shame, i would like to use different marks for warships and merchants.

Its amazing to me that submariners of ww2 could figure out all those calculations under the pressure of being in a sub about to attack a convoy.

@GuitarGuy0008 the compass was part of trigger maru and also as an independet mod called something like 360 bearing plotter

thanks. do you have other movie or link that have print screens about sonar, radar am how to user better de u-boat version >?
huliganul 2 years ago
The U-boat radar is mostly useless, short range and not accurate enough. That's the main flaw in the German subs
taletoul 2 years ago
how do you transfom do get a distanta in nm? on the radar you have 300 and 450. how do you get to 18 , 22.5 and 15 ( i think ) ?

my radar doesnt work....any advise?
IRONMAIDENrockinrio 2 years ago
You won't have a working radar until some point in 1942. Of course you have to get back to your home base to have it installed
taletoul 2 years ago
ahh ok i've always started a compaigne in 1941! thank you for your information. and btw: great vid!
IRONMAIDENrockinrio 2 years ago
@IRONMAIDENrockinrio If your boat does not have radar installed the physical station will still be present even though it's inoperative.
