So many hate comments. :\ Cards, checkers, and chess are all turn-based. Popular at one time, but pretty much forgotten now. The only thing that makes turn-based bad is the time we live in where we expect everything to be done instantaneously.
I usually just keep these comments to myself because they won't help, but why is it so important to watch a video of a turn-based RPG just to trash it? You'd all flip your shit if I said something about Skyrim or Mass Effect.
Oh awsome the same anime style in yet another JRPG, oh cool and the same battle system that has you cycling through menues wow that is so deep and immersive, man it's such a mystery as to why Japan has been falling of the international gaming communities radar with such intuitive, immersive and evolving gameplay oh wait JRPGs are none of those things

The only complaint about this game is the fact they did not go with the monsters in the world map lik Fantasia on wii other than that this looks superb!

It's straightforward again, but there are side quests to do now. Multiple endings, just like X-2. But if you do EVERYTHING, you witness the true ending, like always. You can switch characters to run around as, you can switch the party leader DURING the battle. And you can, instead of summon creatures like Odin, you have a monster's crystal (Fabula Nova Crystallis reference) to fight for you.
@MrIndysniper It also has a moogle to accompany you on your travels (main character's weapon) named Mog. Did you know that a Moogle's Bobble is what allows them to fly? Their wings are just for show, according to Mog. The game has so much more to do. Chocobos are more common. Cute things.
FFXIII also had free roam, but at chapter 11 and chapter 13 (which is the end of the game.)
Looks pretty neat, ima try putting money off to the side and save up for this game. Then again...it's so hard to chose between 13-2 , uncharted 3, AC revelations and this.... :/
Uh, actually, Microsoft is the publisher. The game was developed by Mistwalker. A good majority of them were the guys from Squaresoft who left to form their own studio when the company turned into SquareEnix. If you like older RPGs like the Final Fantasy games(1-10) and pass on this one, you're missing out on gold. Your loss.

People bashing this music must have terrible taste. I've played an abundant amount of JRPGs in my lifetime and I find this theme to be quite enjoyable. In fact, Lost Odyssey's entire soundtrack is beyond fantastic, one of the best to come along in a while.
If you know your Final Fantasy history, you know that most, if not all, of the sequels(compilations, etc) are diarrhea compared to the originals. Considering how much I didn't enjoy FF13, there's no way I'm going near 13-2. I haven't written off 13 Versus just yet but there's no way I'm buying that game until I've researched and looked at reviews. I can't trust SquareEnix the way I used to be able to trust Squaresoft as far as game quality.
All the character's faces seem to be very similar, like they're based on the framework for "create your own characters" which I don't like. They don't look unique enough.
Their faces also look like they come from Final Fantasy 12, what with the bizarre hair styles and weird noses.
The music is quite silly. It doesn't seem like it fits with the "sword and magic" fantasy setting. That's not to say that it's BAD, but it doesn't fit.
And there's WAY TOO much menu navigation to be visually engaging.
Actually, I've played plenty of JRPGs. I've played Final fantasies, Star Oceans, Dragon Quests and others. And with different titles of those franchises in mind, I can say that this has too much menu navigation.
It wouldn't be a problem if they had streamlined it, or simplified it, but when you have to click through 4 different menus just to attack an enemy, something is definately wrong.
And no, I don't just care about visual engagement, but it loses points in that area.
To attack, you don't have to navigate through 4 menus. You choose attack then on the next menu, pick the enemy you want to attack. That's two. You're probably talking about people changing rings in the middle of battle. In that case then, yes, you have to navigate through a couple more menus but it's not necessary to change rings unless you want to. I honestly see no difference between this game and any other Final Fantasy game in terms of menu navigation.

This is a cool game. Towards the beginning of the game there's a character named Jelsik who can join your party if you play your cards right. He was awesome!

Does this game pick up the pace after the 1st couple of hours? I love jrpgs but tried this out a year or two back and couldn't get into it because of the slow pacing for the 1st 5 or so hours.

@topografer I'm gonna get a PS3 first because I want the new Mortal Kombat and only the PS3 version has Kratos in it. I think they should have put an exclusive character for X-Box 360, like Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, or Master Chief from Halo, or somebody that's on a game only for the X-Box.
@locutz I also found out that if you get the PS3 version of Soul Caliber IV, you can have Darth Vader and his apprentice, and you can download Yoda as a DLC. So you wouldn't need an X-Box to get Yoda cause PS3 has him to. I have also discovered that the new Street Fighter Vs. Tekken let's you play as the guy from inFamous if you buy the PSV version. I still want SF Vs. MK but it needs to be MK style so I can have a Fatality. Chun-Li's might be cutting them up with her legs like fan blades.

I like being in direct control of a character, not standing around picking actions and seeing how it turns out... yawn yawn yawn... "The Last Story" looks good cause its a mix of both more direct control though.

This is a cool game. Towards the beginning of the game there's a character named Jelsik who can join your party if you play your cards right. He was awesome!

SERIOUSLY! My sex-life has gone through the roof since RPGs have become last generation gaming. I literally given all my videogame systems away because nothing is worth playing now. I'm so empty I contently focus on my life, excel in college and have become an upstanding citizen, all because RPG's are being pushed aside. This is BULLSHIT!

Who wants to half-ass-laugh at a mediocre drawn, obnoxious, little robot; At-which is more annoying, than anything else. All the while, wasting valuable time playing a repetitive; $5 put together game, like "Portal". I'm Sorry, but I prefer a game with a little heart, and soul, which unfortunately requires a little time and money put into it. So, lay off the games like "Portal", "COD", etc. and play some real games like "Lost Odyssey", "Final Fantasy" or of the sort.

Does this game pick up the pace after the 1st couple of hours? I love jrpgs but tried this out a year or two back and couldn't get into it because of the slow pacing for the 1st 5 or so hours.

@tokinblckgie It was slow pacing but it easily became one of my most favorite RPGs this gen. After Disc 1, it's awesome even though I liked Disc 1 too xD.

@topografer I'm gonna get a PS3 first because I want the new Mortal Kombat and only the PS3 version has Kratos in it. I think they should have put an exclusive character for X-Box 360, like Ryu Hayabusa from Ninja Gaiden, or Master Chief from Halo, or somebody that's on a game only for the X-Box.

@locutz I also found out that if you get the PS3 version of Soul Caliber IV, you can have Darth Vader and his apprentice, and you can download Yoda as a DLC. So you wouldn't need an X-Box to get Yoda cause PS3 has him to. I have also discovered that the new Street Fighter Vs. Tekken let's you play as the guy from inFamous if you buy the PSV version. I still want SF Vs. MK but it needs to be MK style so I can have a Fatality. Chun-Li's might be cutting them up with her legs like fan blades.

gave up this kind of gameplay a long time ago lol. its so pointless and boring, i perfer dynamic action and split second choices that determine life or death. I like being in direct control of a character, not standing around picking actions and seeing how it turns out... yawn yawn yawn... "The Last Story" looks good cause its a mix of both more direct control though.

@TekkenPlayer4Life And thats why final fantasy failed. Because everyone wanted the fast paced action rather than the slow, tactical, turn based style, which I think certain games need. You have to play it like chess. Because its rewarding, I play Battlefield bad company for the fast paced. Not fantasy games. Its horrible to see how nowa generation gamers think. If only if only...

@ToStrideForFame I wasnt sure what the game was like so I looked it up, then I just expressed my opinion, which I have a right to have. I had a lotr game with a similar playing style and was very disappointed. I do appreciate lots of ppl enjoy this style of gaming, but its just not my type of game.

one of the worst rpg's ever made. the first boss will kill the entire pt with hits that are impossible to defend. thats how far i made it before i tried to throw the game out the window.
