  • This brings back memories. Wish I had known about this Glitch back in the 90's when I still had the old games.

  • so pissed that when i was a kid this glitch wasnt know... only fake shit.... ugh

  • the first time I threw a pokeball at the mew, it missed.

  • I just tried this glitch, and it actually works!

I am now the proud owner of a level 7 Mew. On my actual, legal Pokémon Red gameboy cartridge.

  • i told a kid about this and he didn't belive me, we almost got into a fight over it.

  • Damn, really needed this one back in the days :/

  • I got all 151 back like 12 years ago but I didn't get Mew this way. Someone traded it to me at school (I am now 24). Although I think they used a gameshark or something to get it because at the time this glitch was unheard of. It was only years later that I found out about this glitch which sucks! It also sucks that I got rid of my completed Blue cartridge and Gameboy. Now I'm trying to get all in Black but it is virtually impossible. I so far only have 300+ in it. And rare pkmn are impossible.

  • Dude I caught eminem once. It was one of those using the mew glitch that brought up a trainer. That trainer had it's name as M.&.M.,

  • How does one go about discovering this?!

  • @marsvoltian

Exactly, how did they discover this?

I mean they were probably like "i'll do that random thing and follow with that... HOLY SHIT A MEW"

    Lol.

  • @Rigas1997

Nah, the program source is floating about on the internet, it's not that hard to find glitches, but some are found by accidents yes :P it's to do with hex numbers and how the game reads the last

  • @Rigas1997

People use the code that's floating around on the internet :)

But some are just found by accident lol

  • There were a couple of other ways of doing this. I got mew by doing something similar with one of the guys between lavender town and saffron city. Can't remember specifically but yeah.

  • @Helljumper91 But this is the one to do when your early in the game

  • @snappleboy16 This is true.

  • Yay I caught mew! This is the easiest glitch in the game! Thanks for the video it really helped!

  • @snappleboy16 This was on Pokemon Blue, but today I also caught Mew in Red (Which I just got today, Ive had Pokemon Blue fore a loooong time) with a few Pokeballs left!

  • so how would someone get mew in pokemon white?

  • @nxnja Trading's the only way now man.

  • @nxnja You have to use cheat codes from an Action Replay, from what I know I don't think there was any event for getting a mew in White..

  • @Papegei What WebSoldier said, except you will get Missingno if you do said glitch, talk to the old man, and then you go on Cinnabar, but that's pretty focused.

  • @Papegei No, because Mew is programmed in, whereas glitch pokemon such as MissingNo. and LM4 aren't.

  • Does this work in Fire Red and Leaf Green?

  • @1337HxC no stupid that's why it said red/blue/yellow on top

  • @renji928

    d00d i'm not st00pid ur st00pid.

Seriously? Get out of here with that. The fact this says red/blue/yellow clearly does not exclude the other versions of the game.

Thanks for being a jackass about it though.

  • @1337HxC IT DOESNT WORK WITH FIRERED AND LEAFGREEN JEEZ.

  • @renji928

ORLY BRO? CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL TO COOL.

  • @Playa96 Not true. You have to walk along the wall or it freezes. Lrn2bulbapedia.

  • Ah, the Mew Trick that doesn't require you to beat the Elite Four 12 times in a row with your eyebrows, using an Item Finder on every tile in the game backwards and trading your car for a Pinsir.

    Marvellous.

  • that game was so popular in america but if u would say pokemon in lithuania they would answer WHO?! :(

  • As a kid I always thought Mew was somehow under the truck.

  • How do you have a Lapras, Cubone etc so early in the game?

And do you need to walk in that exact pattern to get it to appear? What are the specific factors in this?

  • @00roastedlampost00 I'm wondering this myself. And no, you do not need to walk in that exact pattern. All you need to do is make sure the trainer you choose WALKS UP TO YOU, or the game will lock up.

  • @00roastedlampost00 using the same trick with other trainers causes you to get other pokemon. I got a gengar, lapras, cubone and more by repeating this trick with the other trainers around that area.

  • @00roastedlampost00

The pokemon that appears is based on the special stat of the last pokemon you fought.

The number for mew is 21, so that's likely the special stat of that particular slowpoke. Cubone and Lapras are 17 and 19 respectively so he's done the glitch based on other pokemon.

You can run around in the grass in the route of the guy you actually fought until you get the pokemon you want (or a ditto to mimic the stats you want) before returning to the route of the avoided trainer

  • where do you get abra??

  • Gosh, bite isn't super effective, LOL

  • @Yemin205 Bite is Normal-type in the first game, because there's no Dark-type yet.

  • I always liked the old version of the PokeDex-- secretly hoarding legendary Pokemon while openly declaring that it has no idea where Mew is... ah, good times...

  • I found out how to get two Mews, before Misty!

You get Mew the same way as this, then, you teleport from the guy you're supposed to teleport from (again), and the first swimmer in Misty's gym can be used as the Youngster with the Slowpoke.

    Enjoy your two Mews!

  • I have waited for this moment for over 10 years

  • finding my red cartridge immediately...i've waited for more than 10 yrs for this =D

  • man all those years ago i used my friend's game genie (that should date the story for you) to get my Mews. this is crazy

  • and i got lucky enough to have a big bro who knew this, so i knew this 8 years ago xD

  • Wow... memory lane and awesome memories they were!^_^

  • Oooh, if only i had this back in the 90's. I would have been WORSHIPED by my peers.:P

  • I remember back in the day (about ten years ago, Geez!) when there were SO many freaking rumors on the internet on how to get mew. One of the most famous was the "behind the truck" glitch. I never thought it was fair the we couldn't get him, mew should have been a prize in stadium.

My brother actually got a mew little after this legitimate glitch was first knwon. Good times.

  • can you do the glitch over and over againd

  • Trainer: HEY WANNA BATTLE

    Player: OSHI- -teleports away-

  • kishinnorinku: You don't. That was added in the second generation.

  • yeah i know i found that out and was very disappointed.

  • just found my blue version, gonna try this when i get out of mt. moon

  • i just tried this on my Pokemon Yellow, and it actually works!

  • does it work??i'll try it my yellow when i have an abra??Hope it works!!

  • The last time I played Pokemon, I stopped, because Missingno corrupted my PC :(

  • That sucks...but when you were little, playing pokemon, did Missingno scare you? It scared the craaaap out of me. I mean, it's like a screwed up little demon L shape thing. What the shit.

  • Dude... RIGHT ON!

Missingno literally gave me a nightmare or two the first time I saw it, all freaky and screwed up.

  • just wait till you try to find the other 20 or 30 glitch pokémon in Gen. 1 lol

  • Oh, thank goodness. I thought I was the only one afraid of that thing! XD

I think I was seven when I first saw it (my brother was trying to get a Mew for me and it screwed up my Blue game!). I was afraid to Surf anywhere or walk in the tall grass in fear that it'd catch me.

  • LoL damnnn i wish i knew this YEARS AGO... :(

  • I can't use anyone in misty's gym, and I can't use the trainer in the bushes overlooking the bridge, any other places?

  • iz there another way if u beat all them trainers already?

  • did they mean for this to happen, or was this unintended like missingno?

  • Damn, man, I've been 10 years lookin' for Mew... LOL

  • cool

  • ow did you get lapras lvl 7??

  • I think it's if you do this Mew glitch slightly wrong. If you battle the Lass below the Youngster with the Slowpoke instead of him, a Lapras appears.

  • Will this glich damage my game?

  • No, it won't do a thing to harm your game. Just a simple glitch.

  • I think one of the Snorlax disappeared when I did it. It was a long time ago, so I may be wrong, but I don't remember having to go through the Rock Tunnel.

  • oh wow...and to think I had to use a gameshark back in 1999 to get my mew :/

  • Is this Blue version?

  • Yes, but this glitch works in all three Gen 1 games.

  • You can get all kinds of other pokemon if you pick different trainers, too.

  • Thank you such for the tip!! Finally caught me a Mew after years of failure

  • YouTube, you've come through for me again! You are now reading the comment of a proud Mew owner! F*** YEAH! XD

  • my gf is playing it as we speak. (18 YEARS OLD) LOL

  • I am rather speechless.

I always wanted to believe in the Mew Glitches, but again, rationality made me think "No, it's not worth starting a new game just to check it out." Now, YEARS later, I finally try it and guess what? It fucking works! o.o...

    Caught a level 7 Mew yesterday :D

One of the main reasons I didn't try was that people said it doesn't work in Pokémon Yellow.

Well, I have Pokémon Yellow and it did indeed work :)

    This is pretty sweet<3

  • Did it work on red and blue?

  • yeah it does I have the old red game and it worked :D

  • You can get ANY pokemon this way, it all depends on the pokemon you fight instead of slowpoke. I read about it on a website it has something to do with slowpokes stats match mews in some way. But you can mess around and fight other trainers then the slowpoke one and see what pokemon turn up. I only did it a few times but I got an Arcanine

  • yea its cool huh....lol i once saw a lvl 7 dragonite but i couldn't catch it b/c i didn't have anymore pokeballz lol =p

  • It's not the Slowpoke's stats, I read it was the Special stat of the Pokemon you're using. It has to be 21 to be a Mew I heard.

  • after that exit the area or city you battled the trainer in....and the start menu should come up.

immediately press b and a wild lvl.7-8 pkmn should appear. it jusst so happens i got a lvl 8 electabuzz in lavender town, and a lvl. 8 arcanine.

so you can get alot of pkmn due to this glitch and fill ur pkdex alot faster....you can even get pkm you cant find on that particular version....

just thought i'd let you guys know. =D

  • i wonder, can you do this glitch twice? i want a lapras too hehe :P

  • Haha, awesome. I wish I knew about this like 10 years ago so I didn't have to line up for one at one of those Pokemon tours

  • imagine how popular we could have been with this knowledge 10 years ago.... i'd have been the elementary skool pimp that's for sho

  • OH god yes Lol I was just thinking about that...damn I wish I knew about this 10 years ago

    DX

  • @CrazyEurazion My friend had it and he wouldnt tell anyone how he got it. We hated his guts.

  • what type is bite in Red/Blue

  • Bite is a normal-type attack, I think.

  • thnx

  • I would think it is more powerful in R/B/Y than it is in R/S/E and D/P.

  • yeah

  • dark wasn't around in r/b/y, read the question first, it's normal in r/b/y.

  • sometimes you can get differant pokemon, I found rhyhorn and exeggutor once.

  • um, that means a new game, right? in order to perform the glitch perfectly, is that it? no prob, man.

btw i thought you had to ALMOST battle a Gambler near Saffron City?

  • "btw i thought you had to ALMOST battle a Gambler near Saffron City?"

Yeah, but that's a different Mew Glitch. There are 3, I think.

  • Wait, does this work if you've already fought the trainers before?

  • No. You have to get into fights for it to work.

So, for instance, if you've already fought and beaten the trainer in the grass to the left of Nugget Bridge, you won't be able to activate the glitch there.

  • Aw, well at least i got all three versions so i only have to do start over in one to get mew. Thanks!

  • To be safe, I would suggest you restart Red or Blue.

I'm not sure if anything was changed around in Yellow - the trick itself should still work, but I think I remember hearing something about Pokemon values changing between Red/Blue and Yellow.

I also remember using a Red/Blue gameshark code on Yellow for Mew, which produced a Mankey instead.

  • Cool! Thanks for the info.

  • I performed this trick with both this method and the one with the Gambler on Yellow, and both worked fine and got me Mews. I'm not saying that means it will definitely work, though.

  • No fair... I got a level 7 Gengar instead.

I accidentally knocked ot out with a Confusion... heheh...

  • YEAH I CAUGHT A MEW! WHO IS THE MAN?! I was all like "Holy crap, that actually worked?!" Tip: catch a caterpie (or metapod) evolve it into Butterfree, raise it to lvl 17 so it learns Confusion (lvl 14) and sleep powder (lvl 17) Use confusion about twice, then sleep powder. get ur 6 or 7 pokeballs out and catch Mew!!!

  • Umm, it doesnt work for me. It wont let me pause when the ! pops up over the Youngster's head. Im playing Pokemon Red on a Game Boy Advance SP (the silver folding one). Is that what's wrong?

  • It's Pokemon Red, as in the GB cart, right?

Make sure you're using the guy in the grass, who's off-screen - it only works with people who see you when they appear on-screen, and the timing can occasionally be tricky.

  • Also, this one glitch i have is my pokemon turns green if I paralyze, poison, burn, or put my opponent to sleep

  • I think the third guy on Nugget Bridge is a real nuisance. He keeps using his Ekans's Wrap repeatedly so i cant do anything

  • why do you have a mew as your first pokemon? where did it come from?

  • read the description, he also got one from the swimmer in misty's gym.

  • how do u do it with the trainer in misty's gym?

  • Perform the glitch as shown, then head to Misty's gym. Walk into the line of sight of the very first Swimmer in the gym, fight and win the battle.

Head back to Nugget Bridge, and you'll get the Start menu popping up of its own accord. Cancel out of the menu, and you will get an encounter with a wild Mew.

  • I would do this if Generation I was still relevent to today...

Now I can only really use this on pokemon stadium... and G/S/C... which is really wasting time nowadays

    =[

  • You can battle any opponents you want. It works with any. So you can get as many mews as there is opponents...

  • As long as the Special stat of the last Pokemon you fight is a certain number, you can get a Mew with this glitch.

So far, I only know of two Mews that can be easily gotten from this glitch - but that doesn't mean there isn't a few more.

  • where do you get the Abra?

  • The grasses north of Nugget Bridge have wild Abra in them.

It's a pain to get one, because you basically have time in battle to throw a single Pokeball - unless you have a Pokemon with a high enough speed stat, you can't weaken it (and even then, your first attack has to be something that stops it from running, because that's all Abra will do).

  • holy shit

  • thx it really work

  • I forget. How were you able to find a mew in pokemon without using glitches?

  • Action Replay or get it from a Nintendo Event.

  • Just did this on an emulator, now I have a shiny new Mew :3

  • everytime i do this glitch

it gets frozen when i'm about to fight the trainer with the slowpoke.

    lamee.

  • Make sure the trainer WALKS to you.

You have to let them walk to you - otherwise you get a game freeze.

  • can someone (gladly on swedish) explain slow for me? and do i have to fight a trainer?

  • how did u get such good pokemon so early?

  • all pokemon that were in the same battle gain xp, used to happen to me all the time

  • what abilities does the wild mew come with?

  • pound

  • it's a free country, lol!

  • "Wtf, how old are u guys seriously, and you're still playing Pokemon!"

Could be out of nostalgia. I was like... six when it came out in the U.S (1998, right?) and it was the first video game I ever played.

(The quote's there because somtimes Youtube puts my comment right at the top instead of whoever I'm replying to.)

  • wow, maybe because they are really good games? maybe because it doesn't matter? or maybe it's because nintndo keeps renewing it.

  • This comment may be 2 years old but I don't give a shit.

Who cares how old someone is and plays Pokemon? Seriously, I don't get it. Not everyone enjoys watching a bunch of overpaid jocks play with a ball or whatever it is that we're "supposed" to enjoy

  • i enjoy playing pokemon and watching overpayed jocks play football

  • I enjoy watching overpaid jocks play pokemon.

  • that was crazy i have to know how 2 do that

  • The f... How'd you do that. What happened also?

  • omfg it did a cubone wtf????

  • you can do it with some one else i tried it and it works on the big guy to.

  • does this work if i beat the game n fought the trainers all ready? lol

  • You know you don't even need those trainers. As long as you battle a pokemon (wild or trained) with a special of 20, you can get a Mew on area change. It's a weird glitch but very cool to exploit.

  • Yeah, I know - the Special stat of the last Pokémon fought determines what shows up to fight you; it's just that the Swimmer and the Youngster have Pokémon with the correct special stat; so rather than fighting wild Pokémon at random and getting something you don't want, you can simply fight those trainers and get a Mew.

(Or you can take what you get.)

  • Indeed. You can get some pretty rare pokémon by exploiting this glitch. Even some you can't get in the respective version. I only used it for Mew though.

  • what are some of the pokemon you can get using this glitch?

  • pretty much all of them, including a number of different glitch pokemon.

  • Go to GameFAQs' Pokémon Red/Blue page. There's an FAQ there.

You can get two Mews when you get to Cerulean, as long as you get an Abra so you can Teleport - one of the Swimmers in Misty's Gym has a Pokémon with the required Special stat to cause a Mew to appear.

Cubone and Lapras are also possibilites, from fighting other trainers or other Pokémon - the Special stat of the last Pokémon fought determines what you get into a fight with.

  • Give me instructions on how to do this, bud. =/
