  • This song was written by Marshall Crenshaw and this is one of the better versions as it has been covered by several people.

  • I went on my first trip with my first love to Newquay back in 1986 .... lovely memories of my first love ... mwah Harry

  • Owen Paul (McGee) now fronts his Big brothers band XSM (Ex Simple Minds)...and does a very good job of it :)

  • 80s, bad fashion period but always best music (melodically - with proper chorus and bridge; and lyrically)

  • hes my cousin own paul mc gee :D ! my mums full cousin , his dad is my grandas brouther james and ownie :P x

  • Nice vid,coolpost,thankyou,made me smile...and share it.

  • This song brings back good memories of the 80's. I was 14 back then. Fabolous time !

  • Wee shame he was a one hit wonder!! Brilliant song can remember hearing this on the radio for the very first time!!!! long time ago lol ;-D

  • @shirls2k9 It was a 1 hit wonder...Owen writes usually....someone told him to sing this himself...so he did...he wrote for many stars...hope hes still writing....

  • Remember the early episode of "the Osbournes?" ... where they had the 'ham-throwing incident' with their neighbours? It was only Oewn Paul and friends!! Little bit of absolutely useless trivia for you... :)

  • Gr8 song. 1 of my favs. (Y)

  • coco rocks

  • i wasn't even alive when this came out. xD LMAO

  • Ooo, love the 'Head' bag! I think he was trying to pitch himself as the new Midge Ure but got confused. Nice hook.

  • This is classic 80's and a classic 80's mullet to go with it,you just cant go wrong with it

  • Love it... Värsta sommar låten :)

  • Brilliant song.. Still have my big collection of 45's and this is one of them! Love it :)

  • 1986,puerto rico i met my favourite waste of time.her name maria.

  • crikey can just remember this song just lol

  • All I can say to the people who did not like this version why bother listening to it in the first place.

This is one of our favourites as my wife and our have been married for 22 years and stil love her to bits.

So to all of you guy's that don't like this version sod off

  • well if someone wrote or dedicated this song to me im afraid id be very offended. How disrespectful to say someone is a waste of time !!!!!!!!! if im a waste of time then naff off and let me find someone who doesnt think im a waste of time !

  • watching this video was a waste of time, also faved

  • He wasnt the best looking of blokes, but what a fun song, really upbeat and catchy, just like the 80s!!!! 80s forever!!!!!!

  • shot in tenereife and lannzarote

  • this is one of those songs that stands out and instantly takes you back to the (better) time and place when you first heard it, thats what i like about it...

  • You gotta love the 80s! I love this song! The miming is soooooooo bad in this video though! ROFL

  • really cool tune....... as good as ever!!

  • Hello everyone

Very nice. But i prefer the Bette Midler version

  • I was not born yet!

Thank God, when i started to be mature, I found a computer around me.... still also sad for living in a 3rd world country, wish I could get a better education and ....

  • this just reminds me how good Marshall Crenshaw's original version is. This guy is too busy trying to be a pop star to feel the song. There are some extra bits that he's put in which only distract from the song.

  • Gr8 80s song. Luv it.

  • LOL.... the song which instantly transports me back to the summer I left school........

  • My husband William bought me this as a 45 rpm single when it was in the charts. We had only been together a few months and, all these years later (parents of 3 boys), I am stil his favourite waste of time, and he mine. It's important to never forget how to waste at least some time with the one you love! That's what we are doing right now, cosy in bed, as I type!

  • @lisaicib thats awesome! cup a tea?

  • @lisaicib It was and still is one of my wifes and I favorite songs we were going together then too

  • i think this is one of the best songs ever recorded to date.

  • I want to love you, my little perfect doll & you know it... why do you refuse to hear it? open our heart!

    I LOVE YOU BARBIE

  • i believe he had trials with arsenal football club.

  • He started his football career with Celtic.

  • Are you sure you both haven't got him confused with Charlie Nicholas lol!.

  • He was taken on as an apprentice with celtic. He gave up football to becoma a pop star, he shows a few moves in this vid.

  • Yeah i know he was, i'm sorry it was just that Charlie had an 80's barnet like Owen, an played for both those clubs. i apologise for my dodgy attempt :@ humour.

  • Ha ha no, it was a humor lapse on my part.

  • Great 80's song thanks for posting.. God i loved being a teenager in the 80's great times...

  • Without using Google or Wikipedia.... I think he's Scottish.

And from what I can remember from the time (1986ish) he had trials for some Scottish football team.....

.... watching his football "skills" on this video, its a good job he chose singing

    lol - just saying!!

  • sadly approaching 40.....

When this song came out I was 16 approaching 17.

    Where do the years go??

I love this song with a passion
