1st of all, it's not drilling, per se, MANY people from BOTH parties are opposed to OFF-SHORE DRILLING/ The rigs often have spills/leaks which can SERIOUSLY DAMAGE OCEAN ECOSYSTEMS! Oil is toxic to ALL MARINE MAMMALS, Waterfowl, FISH, and just about any wildlife. It's not good for humans, either! Having drilling up & down BOTH EAST & WEST COASTS would be a disaster waiting to happen. Water safety, tourism, fish/food supply, crabs/lobster/shrimp, shellfish, etc., ALL would be affected.

The government has put scores of safety regulations & requirements into place over the last couple of decades to prevent "spills/leaks". You should do a little UP TO DATE research on refinery engineering. It's come a long way since the "old days". We now have computer controlled valves, that almost instantly shut off oil flow if a leak is detected.

The laws of supply & demand are pretty cut & dry. It certainly wouldn't raise the cost of gas. Odds are great that it would bring prices down at least a bit.
