#1 - Pictures of the HIS HD 5870 1GB GDDR5 Video Card

Ignorant question: what is the difference between HIS, Saphire, Powercolor, ASUS graphics cards? They're all ATI but they have another name at the same time. I.e., they are all for example HD 5770s graphics cards but some are HIS and some are not. What's the difference? Thanks and sorry for the noob question.

HIS, Saphire, XFX, the only difference really is in the length of warranty they give you after purchase. There is remarkably NO PERFORMANCE difference in the actual video card. They're all ATI HD 5870, now go drink a beer everybody!

Well its not as bad as the radiator cap theme as seen on the 4770 or on many sapphire cards. As for the bat-mobile it is truly retro. One might as well dust off the plat form shoes and all the other retro from 70s disco.

EVGA is nVidia banded, so I guess that is impossbile to say. The new nVidia cards is comming to stores in late november/early december, but I dont know yet if its worth waiting for. All there is to the cards to this date is nothing more than rumors.

Anyhow, I would wait to buy anything at all untill nVidia releases their new GT300 series, 'cus the pricedrop ATi/AMD pushes then will be noticeable.

this will still work on the P55 Boards Dumkoff, it will just run at 8x, in tests, there's no significant difference from 8x capped and 16x

The GPU itself is only about 1.5" square, the equipment that runs it is cause of the length. Most of this equipment, you only need one of even with two GPUs, such as RAM for instance.

So you can get away with having dual GPUs while not making the whole card itself much longer.

Benchmarks from AnadTech and HardwareCanucks show that the HD 5870 has almost the same performance than the GTX 295, only a few frames of difference! But the GTX 295 has 2 GPUs, and is almost US$150 more expensive than the 5870.

You can connect your crossfire bridge to any of the crossfire connections. But just put the bridge on the one closest to the back of the case and you should be fine.

uhm, a german game-magazine has released many benchmarks with the 5870. It depends on the game and the resolution, but they are almost head to head every time. Overall the 5870 is 15% faster than the GTX285 and head to head with gtx295. And keep in mind, that the multi-GPUs have shuttering and single-GPUs don't!
