  • dude these guys must have been dropping acid or something i could barley take 10 seconds of that >. <

  • DVD, please?????

  • He does good (no, excellent) work; I'm glad he found his niche.

  • ……. & exactly WHY isn't this available on DVD ??? Thanx for the upload, Mekaniktom. Your taste in the ephemeral is impeccable ~ (•8-D

  • ……. Beyond human talent, that Bruce Bickford ~ (•8-D

  • del genio F.Z. del genio pues genial O:K:

  • lolllllzzzzz shroom silly

  • MONTANA RULES:) Love u Franki.

  • Very Varese.

    Thanks Frank!

  • This is such an amazing piece, in my view Zappa's finest Contemporary work (or Contemporary orchestral version)!

Surprisingly conducted by Boulez as well, not quite as mathematical as some of his other performances (not just Zappa's).

Check out the version of this on the album 'Make A Jazz Noise Here' for a completely different take on it!

  • If this video is no longer available, then why could I see the vicdeo after I saw the pick banner of death. DYNNOHUM

  • Bickford is a genius. People should watch clay animation every evening instead of the news. His style is so aggressive and yet expansive I can't take my eyes off of it. Had to look this fellow up after viewing baby snakes. Probably the greatest animator currently on the planet. Do not forget he works out of his home and garage, no fancy studio's or CGI's. This guy is nailing it!!!

  • Yeah that's an awesome quote! "People should watch clay animation every evening instead of the news" lol. The world would be a better place

  • @irojioqopiewjr

Indeed. The lost art of stop motion and, in general, taking TIME (heh) in the creation of the piece of work. There was a neat movie from Mike Jitlov/. We're talking low budget here, kind of hokie plot and all. Althought it's not clay animation, there are still some very nice applications of stop motion.

  • FZ said he smoked 10 joints in his lifetime in one interview. I'm not sure that if he had done other drugs if he would have cared to make that publicly know. He was probably already under enough scrutiny, why would he draw more unwanted attention on himself?

  • he was imbalanced give him a break for his genius

  • drugs or every shit.. some times good some times not bad some times worse, the important thing is how could you manage the risk from the side effect of that stuff, inside outside...

  • Zappa himself was against drugs for his personal use but supported legalization - he didn't approve drug use for other people if they were going to be social liabilities while on them. Apart from that he felt it was an individual choice so no he wasn't strictly anti-drug across the board. But he himself didn't use them.

  • Zappa was a LIBERTARIAN.

  • Were you making a statement or disagreeing with me? It's hard to tell on the internet.

  • @plasticjesus108 - only until he started talking to the Libertarian Party. Then he concluded "these guys are closet anarchists"

  • "LULZ CLEARLY THEY MUST OF BEEN ON DRUGS 2 MAKE THIS!!! xD"

    -- A retard

  • @NellyNinja Of course not, it requires far too much eye-hand coordination!

  • @NellyNinja you gotta watch bruce bickford talk! He's in another dimension!

  • Oh fuck I forgot, long time ago, me and my friends did an LSD trip and we watched 200 motels. Man!!! we had to stop the film, we where all loosing our mind. Ok I shut up now farewell!

  • Soundo- Zappa began as a composer of classical music he was particularily influenced by the avant garde movement of the 20's-40's look up Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Prokofiev. These are the people that influenced him more than being the "ambasador of freedom". Freedom in fact is an entirely false assessment of his work as he we was experimental but with a very structured basis to his work, he was a consummate professional who refrained from drugs and respected his work -- you're completely off

  • wow are you like, a friend of zappa ?

    really detailed bio

thank you, i've learned something today

  • Bruce Bickford did the claymation. Creative minds have thoughts that everyone else doesn't - no drugs necessary.

  • nope he never used them

  • I was being sarcastic.

  • that's trippy

  • nice

  • Wow this is one of the most difficult to listen to of Zappa songs i ve ever heard next to the adventures of gregory peccory.

My favorites of his difficult stuff are Approximate, The Black Page, Sinister Footwear , and the drowning Witch

But i guess this Dupree´s Paradise get better evertime you hear it.

It was the same with Truck Driver Devorce the first time i hatet it.

I guess its a Livetime Hobby to dicover all the genius i zappas music :) :)

  • Magic buttplug on an altar?

  • If you like this, you'll LOVE "City of Tiny Lights", more Bickford claymation and FZ music.

  • I liked it better on acid.

  • exxxelente me hace acordar a stravinsky

  • This piece by Zappa reminds me of one of Aaron Copeland's works.

  • it's incredible

    amazing

    unique

it's one of my favorites now

  • Speechless

  • That is one of the most incredible things i've seen in a long, long time.

    Bravo!

  • Seen this guy on some art "sie" channel a couple of years ago and couldn't remember his name. I Couldn't believe I was able to find his work on here. Also seen a video monster road on ebay but didn't want to buy it till I could find out if he's getting royalties on it. He deserves all the money and fame he works so hard to create. Hail to Bruce Bickford.

  • eh????

  • Bruce Bickford used to work for Hannah Barbara before Frank found him. Read the book 'The Real Frank Zappa' or 'The Negitive Dialect of Poodle Play' (may be out of print but, I have it. Also, Frank & Bruce share dialouge in the movie 'Baby Snakes'. There is a whole video devoted to his works. It's called 'Amazing Mr. Bickford'.

  • extraordinario

  • At first I thought Bickford was a madman, then I realized he was not, Then I realized that he is an absolute brilliant genius and perhaps a God. However saying he is a God may actually be blasphemy, and as you know " you have to play these things safe."

  • nice^^

  • Truly extraordinary. I wish Bickford had had a better camera, though. I'd also be interested to know if he planned soundtracks for his films. The music is great but a really good sound effects track could enhance it massively. Sometimes the characters lips are moving very precisely-is there a script for dialogue out there somewhere?!?!

  • this is not the right background. it's on the dub room special dvd and its suppose to dogbreath with uncle meat etc. and there is sound effects

  • weird stuff kinda hard 2 follow

  • wah ,................ so great

  • Zappa + Boulez + astounding clay animation = Gershwin + Planet of the Apes. 5 stars and thnx x posting!

  • Visitad el Foro de la Música de Frank Zappa.

Buscad "Frank Zappa Indice" en el buscador.

    Un Saludo!!!

  • wonderful. bickford is one of the great outsider geniuses of all time.

  • guy's a true genius I don't think anyone will ever do claymation this intense ever again love his attention to the camera angles

  • Who spiked the milkshake?

  • I found this on VHS for 10 kronor(Thats like 1 dollar) and the No D paper glasses were in the box I am so happy! 110 minutes of this magical world!

  • i like this! check out my place. I put an animation demo reel of my underneath FZ's zombie woof!

  • tubemeokay as a hardcore Zappa fan I find your comments offensive. How does the fact that a lot of people consider his material to be 'weird' or -non-conventional' equate to him favouring people who take drugs? Also he died of cancer, and he acknowledged that he drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes was in fact using drugs, the difference being that coffee and cigarettes don't turn you into a frothing unproductive idiot.

  • Awesome...

  • YES, this is really AMAZING!

    like a dream....

  • LOL interesting Animation

  • What a trip!

  • i watched this on the baby snakes dvd when i took acid for the first time.

  • You know, Frank was agaisnt drugs and all that , but seemed to pander to those takeing them. WAS he truthfull??? And hey, was right there with you back in the 70,s, but survived like alot of us did..

  • Probably not what Frank had in mind.

  • what in the holy hell was that?!?!?! What A TREASURE

  • This is beautiful.

  • Honestly amazing.

  • Like a box of old jazz records you find at the flea market, FZ inspired blogs are always smoother, cleaner & better taken care of than the things around it---and I always buy them. A great accompaniment video to BABY SNAKES called THE AMAZING MR.BICKFORD shows not only this mad genius' work in much greater detail but also has one of the best videography histories of stop-motion animation I've ever seen...maybe the only one.

  • can you pls consider uploading "Cocaine Decisions" from The Dub Room Special DVD. Havent heard that in a long time..

  • They should've include Zappa compositions in the movie Fantasia 2000.

  • Beyond the realm of mere humans... some minds are blessed and others; such as those involved with this, are just beyond the realm of mortals.

  • Zappa's one of the greatest orchestral compositions. It is magnificent. I love it.

  • bickford,s stuff is amazing , frank zappa was amazing .together its incredable stuff..watch monster road shows how intresting bigford is

  • people today throw the word genius around toward hip hop assholes and boring, so-called divas.

THIS IS GENIUS. Bickford is amazing.

  • So true, mate, so true!!!

  • I can hear a big Stravinsky influence here. Yeah, and I know Zappa loved Stravinsky.

  • Lots of Edgar Varese, Shoenberg, too. As well as Messian. But it's still so original! This orchestration is incredible. It'amazing to hear strings used so seldom, yet so much color.

  • I simply can't get enough of Bickford's work. The perfect marriage: Zappa's music & Bickford's claymation. A hat tip to Boulez as well.

  • oh shit! i´m tripin

  • Oh my god!

  • This is fantastic! Amanda is a genius.

  • BRUTAL!!!

  • Bruce Bickford is brilant master claymation!!!

  • incredible animation - i haven't seen this one before (have only seen baby snakes and the documentary monster road - which you must see if you haven't already)

    thank you for sharing!

  • amazing simply amazing

  • yes, it is ;-) It must have takena long time to make such a movie...

  • @Mekaniktom

you can calculate how long it took Mr. Brickford to make the movie

it takes 1 Day to make 3 Seconds of this movie
