Bickford is a genius. People should watch clay animation every evening instead of the news. His style is so aggressive and yet expansive I can't take my eyes off of it. Had to look this fellow up after viewing baby snakes. Probably the greatest animator currently on the planet. Do not forget he works out of his home and garage, no fancy studio's or CGI's. This guy is nailing it!!!
Indeed. The lost art of stop motion and, in general, taking TIME (heh) in the creation of the piece of work. There was a neat movie from Mike Jitlov/. We're talking low budget here, kind of hokie plot and all. Althought it's not clay animation, there are still some very nice applications of stop motion.
FZ said he smoked 10 joints in his lifetime in one interview. I'm not sure that if he had done other drugs if he would have cared to make that publicly know. He was probably already under enough scrutiny, why would he draw more unwanted attention on himself?
drugs or every shit.. some times good some times not bad some times worse, the important thing is how could you manage the risk from the side effect of that stuff, inside outside...
Zappa himself was against drugs for his personal use but supported legalization - he didn't approve drug use for other people if they were going to be social liabilities while on them. Apart from that he felt it was an individual choice so no he wasn't strictly anti-drug across the board. But he himself didn't use them.
Oh fuck I forgot, long time ago, me and my friends did an LSD trip and we watched 200 motels. Man!!! we had to stop the film, we where all loosing our mind. Ok I shut up now farewell!

Also, I'm a big Zappa admirer, he was a real genius! But that kind of music in this video is maybe intelligent but simply unbearable to listen and I think that turn off a lot of people. And that's bad because the world need Zappa mind, but hey... we won't censure that guy! He was an ambassador of freedom. But again I repeat he was a pure genius and still vibrate all around the world. He successfully transcended!
Soundo- Zappa began as a composer of classical music he was particularily influenced by the avant garde movement of the 20's-40's look up Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Prokofiev. These are the people that influenced him more than being the "ambasador of freedom". Freedom in fact is an entirely false assessment of his work as he we was experimental but with a very structured basis to his work, he was a consummate professional who refrained from drugs and respected his work -- you're completely off

Ok, I agree but give them drug and they will create a thousand time more. When I started to do drugs, I saw the world from another optic. I have signed some drawing I did at graphic art school with a smiley face which mean I was really high on LSD. Everybody can see at this instant that my drawing changed radically that day. What I saw was beautiful. Each drug bring different brain frequency in witch you see the reality in different spectrum. Anyway it's just my experience.
Seen this guy on some art "sie" channel a couple of years ago and couldn't remember his name. I Couldn't believe I was able to find his work on here. Also seen a video monster road on ebay but didn't want to buy it till I could find out if he's getting royalties on it. He deserves all the money and fame he works so hard to create. Hail to Bruce Bickford.
Bruce Bickford used to work for Hannah Barbara before Frank found him. Read the book 'The Real Frank Zappa' or 'The Negitive Dialect of Poodle Play' (may be out of print but, I have it. Also, Frank & Bruce share dialouge in the movie 'Baby Snakes'. There is a whole video devoted to his works. It's called 'Amazing Mr. Bickford'.
At first I thought Bickford was a madman, then I realized he was not, Then I realized that he is an absolute brilliant genius and perhaps a God. However saying he is a God may actually be blasphemy, and as you know " you have to play these things safe."

Truly extraordinary. I wish Bickford had had a better camera, though. I'd also be interested to know if he planned soundtracks for his films. The music is great but a really good sound effects track could enhance it massively. Sometimes the characters lips are moving very precisely-is there a script for dialogue out there somewhere?!?!
tubemeokay as a hardcore Zappa fan I find your comments offensive. How does the fact that a lot of people consider his material to be 'weird' or -non-conventional' equate to him favouring people who take drugs? Also he died of cancer, and he acknowledged that he drinking coffee and smoking cigarettes was in fact using drugs, the difference being that coffee and cigarettes don't turn you into a frothing unproductive idiot.
You know, Frank was agaisnt drugs and all that , but seemed to pander to those takeing them. WAS he truthfull??? And hey, was right there with you back in the 70,s, but survived like alot of us did..

Lots of Edgar Varese, Shoenberg, too. As well as Messian. But it's still so original! This orchestration is incredible. It'amazing to hear strings used so seldom, yet so much color.

This is such an amazing piece, in my view Zappa's finest Contemporary work (or Contemporary orchestral version)!
Surprisingly conducted by Boulez as well, not quite as mathematical as some of his other performances (not just Zappa's).
Check out the version of this on the album 'Make A Jazz Noise Here' for a completely different take on it!

Yeah, no way was Zappa just naturally brilliant or creative. He surely must have resorted to mind-altering drugs to come up with his work.

Wow this is one of the most difficult to listen to of Zappa songs i ve ever heard next to the adventures of gregory peccory.
My favorites of his difficult stuff are Approximate, The Black Page, Sinister Footwear , and the drowning Witch
But i guess this Dupree´s Paradise get better evertime you hear it.
It was the same with Truck Driver Devorce the first time i hatet it.
I guess its a Livetime Hobby to dicover all the genius i zappas music :) :)
