I am of the Great Spirit, Ho! I am of the Great Spirit
And it just repeats
As has been pointed out Pocahontas was daughter of Powhatan, the powerful chief of the Algonquian Indians in the Tidewater region of Virginia, NOT Cherokee and its spelled "Morning" not Moarning" :~P
may the Cherokee people live on for ever ( am part Cherokee and Ottawa). I am glade this was put together, even though this movie was only part historical correct it was a great movie. but just to let people know, Pocahontas was not Cherokee, her tribe was Powhatan, hence why the name of her father in the movie.
Why did you use a Cherokee song?! Pocahontas was a member of the Powhattan Chiefdom, which was comprised of several tribes. My people were never part of the Chiefdom.
It's sad that we can't hear any of the pocahontas songs in their original langauge :( Most other disney songs have translated versions in their mother tongues...but not Pocahontas :(
This Video and song is beautiful! I keep watching it over and over. But I was just wondering if Pocahontas is Cherokee or Iroquois? Cause I am Iroquois (and Cree) myself and I always thought Pocahontas was Iroquois. Just Wondering :)
@KinkySway Pocahontas was a member of the Powhattan Chiefdom, which was comprised of several tribes. Neither the Cherokee nor the Iroquois were part of the Chiefdom. Which Iroquois tribe do you belong to?
can somebody please tell me what R the words in english, please??? I love indian music, from any indian, I`m a cherokee but I just don`t know how 2 speak in any indian langeues but I would sure love 2.......
@kaoruneko16 Maybe they didn't go full out like this song, but the songs that the indians sing are heavily inspired, just listen to the start music. Besides, just because they sing mainly in english does not automatically make it "un-indian". It is the context of what they are singing about that is vital to portray a society and it's culture, which, if you listen to the lyrics, the songs in Pocahontas perfectly execute. You twat.
@Lerbrandt Take that back. I'm Native American, cunt-breath.
It's fine to make something inspired by tribal music, but I can't really zone out to the beginning song, it's not spectacular.
If I don't conform to your enthusiasm, then let it go. Unless the songs are supported by perfectly executed empirical evidence that support its execution, your opinions are only opinions.
The ending of "Pocahontas" was fucking epic, I love the movie and "Colors of the Wind' is my favorite song.

I'm part Cherokee, Blackfoot, Aztec and Mayan, and may be descended from Crazy Horse himself, but I don't have a status card. Still, I feel a close bond with nature, and if I could choose between a life in the wild like how they used to live or a life surrounded by electronics, I'd pick the wild hands down.
LONG LIVE THE CHEROKEE NATION, I AM NOT NATIVE AMERICAN BUT I HAVE A DEEP RESPECT FOR ALL NATIONS, AND MAY THE LAND ONE DAY BELONG TO THEM AGAIN SOMEDAY.
@chatanwarrior yeh and look what a disaster weve made of it, no one owns the land, and the native americans lived by that, they took only what they needed and made concervation a priority, it wasnt til we showed up that the land went to hell and continues to
@pvtread i meant the cherokee's since i'm one of them i say we,its not like they're trapped on reservations ,and the tribal leaders have turned to shit because they got rich and now they act the same as "the white man" you shouldnt be ashamed of your heritage man, stop sufferring from white guilt, you didnt do it, and i didnt do it, course im part irish so my other half wasnt even allowed to work here
@glynnth It really wasn't historically correct, but the movie was great none the less. It wasn't really meant to be a history lesson, it wouldn't have grabbed kids as much and it would have had a very sad ending.
It still had a historically true storyline and Pocahontas did give us "grandmother willow's bark" for capt. J Smith's wounds....the same plant that is used to make modern aspirin today
Eerie and absolutely beautiful. I was hesitant to watch at first, since it is a mourning song by name...but with the good choice of clips, it makes the song seem more like a celebration of someone's life. Nice work.
this is a moving story, and I can not believe that the two do not stay together, is a estupides not stay together

The lyrics in English are: 'I am of the Great Spirit. It is so.' Right? I don't know Cherokee, but I was told that that's what the lyrics meant.

When they made Pocahontas, I think they should have at least tried to incorporate music like this...like, make much more of an effort at it.

@xferd02 It had its "roots" in history, but the movie did not follow the true story of pocahontas. The true story is very sad and very serious.
