This is a crime against everything my childhood was. An all the people who are supposedly taking the 'moral high ground' by saying that the game is not that bad are completely delusional. They've got rid of his awesome look, he used to have a awesome voice, and now it sounds like he's dribbling constantly, they've scrapped the awesome 'health mechanic' with sparx changing colour to represent health (they've actually scrapped sparx completely). The gameplay is completely different.A crime.

Secondly, about Spyro's new look. I agree that when I fist saw it I also thought that it looked stupid and not like Spyro, but I also thought the same about the Legend of Spyro design.
I've now gotten used to both of them and even think that the Skylanders design looks kind of cool. And how exactly was Spyro's voice awesome when he sounded like the Taco Bell chihuahua? As for his voice in the trailer, it was just an early preview. He sounds a lot better in the final game.
Thirdly, they scrapped the Sparx health mechanic way back in 2006 with The Legend of Spyro because it's an outdated game mechanic from the PS1. He now has a health bar and can now take more than 3 or 4 hits. And Sparx is in fact in the game, his character comes in the Dragon Peaks Adventure Pack which hasn't been released yet.
Lastly, the gameplay being different is not in any way a crime. Enter the Dragonfly and A Hero's Tail both contained the gameplay from the PS1 games, and they were both failures. The Legend series experimented with new ideas to try to keep the series fresh and Skylanders is doing the same thing. The inclusion of toys is not at all a bad idea, and in fact many people think it's brilliant. The gameplay itself is simple but fun to many children and even older people.
And, above all else, this game has more of the atmosphere of the Insomniac titles than any other Spyro game since Attack of the Rhynocs GBA. I agree that it isn't a Spyro game in itself, but it still feels like the old ones. In the end, Skylanders is at least far better than what Activsion originally had planned with Spyro's Kingdom- rated M with blood, guts, gore, humans, giant black dragons, and having nothing to do with the original or legend series.
@Zarr123456 They were originally planning something that had even less to do with the series than this and would have had something looked absolutely nothing like Spyro apart from being purple. Since when was the series ever about blood and humans!? Even Dawn of the Dragon didn't nearly go that far and yet people bash that game to hell for being more violent than the previous games. Just imagine how the fanbase would have reacted had that Spyro's Kingdom game actually been made.

I changed my mind about this game. It's still not as good as the older Spyro games, but it's still really good. Unlike others,I actually took time to play the game.
I watched the tealgamemaster review. This game not only looks awesome, but a lot of fun as well. The script is pretty good, the villain is HILARIOUS... it looks really entertaining.
This video was probably made before the real game was made & they hadn't recorded the voices for the characters yet & the game was just a prototype. They had to use computer generated dragon sounds. So stop complaining people! No offense. I do agree though, it doesn't sound like the Spyro in the game.

in fact, the developer was instructed to reinvent the spyro franchise and make it a Mature bloody spyro game. the developer changed Activisions mind and suggested a totally new game unrelated to the others, Skylanders. Executive producer Jeff Poffenbarger said that the game "would be geared more towards younger gamers who have no prior knowledge of the Spyro character". its intended for those who never knew spyro
@MyK010401 maybe, but he's only part of the selection. i don't he's the main character that is needed to beat a huge majority of the game. personally, i kind of see it as spyro 3 or a hero's tale, except the focus is a little more on the side characters rather than spyro, despite having his name on the title.

Both of those were Activision-owned, albeit Sierra-made. They got underrated, and this got underrated. However, IGN is consistent with their crappy views. They felt Spyro was trying to be "bigger than he is" with TLOS, and since this is a kid's game, they think it's better. They think less is more with "kid's" games. Fucking retards.
@Jonor You think the last good one was Warped? Wrath of Cortex was a carbon copy, TwinSanity witrh Crash 2 with free-roam, and Titans and Mind Over Mutant were new, refreshing game styles. Yo seriously didn't appreciate ANY of them? WTF? I loved Spyro 2, but 3 was horrendous. Everything that Spyro 2 did right, Spyro 3 did wrong, including the story, jokes, levels. The Ripto's boss fight was epic fun, but that fat dragon's boss fight was pathetic. Dawn of the Dragon was the last good Spyro game.
We think the new spyro is kinda cute. He kinda looks like a baby dragon. Or something. His grunts are so adorable! Panpan's fave skylander is Wirlwind and Spyro. Katkat's fave are Wrecking Ball and Gill Grunt and Zap and Chop Chop. :)
Personally, I like this Spyro. I mean, sure, he looks ugly, but if you look past his face and actually see him as he is: a short, brave, funny, spunky dragon who thrives for adventure- I don't see what there is to hate besides his appearance. Saying that, he actually reminds me more of the way classic Spyro acted than say the total personality change they did in TLoS. I'm not afraid to say I love the new Spyro.

I think Spyro in this game looks cool. He kinda looks like a normal dragon with the fangs and everything, but his voice... I can't really make anything of it. The game still sounds pretty awesome to me and the people who criticized the game need to get a life.

@nToonCone I agree with the money scheme business. Unfortunalty, my love of spyro just likes to see him, even if its like this. Even the name is a joke, "spyros adventure" is only on there for that milking reason. Because anyone who has played it, knows you dont even need him, and he practically does nothing, as long as you have one skylander, you can probably beat the game.. So yes somewhat a scam, but the game is fun. For those reasons, my purple and yellow plated heart will probably end up
I'm ashamed of this fan base. Stop comparing every new Spyro to the originals- yes, they may have been amazing, but lets be honest, I don't think they'll come back. And this is a fantastic game on it's own. And, upside; if it sells well enough, you'll get something more similar to the old Spyro.

The game looks good. But they've raped Spyro. He looks terrible and it's a real stab in the heart for players of the original games. How would you feel if your favourite game/character/etc was completely changed? It's a horrible feeling. Knowing that a huge part of your childhood is destroyed. If they had kept Spyro's original appearance and the original characters, it would be a great game probably. I might play this on my modded Wii. But with a different character. That's just not Spyro.

@MissBarghest It depends on the change. It's different, but the question is what replaces it? Is the replacement good? Legend of Spyro gave Spyro a deep story and great combat. This game replaces all that with nothing. Change is not the problem, the type of change is. They progressed and evolved the series. Now it's regressing into some stupid toy game. Looking at hw simplistic and repetitive the game seems, I doubt a design change would make it any better.

@Jonoridge Then why did Crash Bandicoot: Mind Over Mutant and The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon get a 6 and 7 respectively from IGN in 08'? Both of those were Activision-owned, albeit Sierra-made. They got underrated, and this got underrated. However, IGN is consistent with their crappy views. They felt Spyro was trying to be "bigger than he is" with TLOS, and since this is a kid's game, they think it's better. They think less is more with "kid's" games. Fucking retards.

@Jonor You think the last good one was Warped? Wrath of Cortex was a carbon copy, TwinSanity witrh Crash 2 with free-roam, and Titans and Mind Over Mutant were new, refreshing game styles. Yo seriously didn't appreciate ANY of them? WTF? I loved Spyro 2, but 3 was horrendous. Everything that Spyro 2 did right, Spyro 3 did wrong, including the story, jokes, levels. The Ripto's boss fight was epic fun, but that fat dragon's boss fight was pathetic. Dawn of the Dragon was the last good Spyro game.

We think the new spyro is kinda cute. He kinda looks like a baby dragon. Or something. His grunts are so adorable! Panpan's fave skylander is Wirlwind and Spyro. Katkat's fave are Wrecking Ball and Gill Grunt and Zap and Chop Chop. :)

Personally, I like this Spyro. I mean, sure, he looks ugly, but if you look past his face and actually see him as he is: a short, brave, funny, spunky dragon who thrives for adventure- I don't see what there is to hate besides his appearance. Saying that, he actually reminds me more of the way classic Spyro acted than say the total personality change they did in TLoS. I'm not afraid to say I love the new Spyro.

@PhoenicianGuard Trolls, hah thats a good one, I didn't realise having a negative opinion was considered being a troll. The concept had been already used on a game on the GBA, though it never made it to english speaking shores.
Don't expect to release a game like this, a game with Spyro's name in the title no less, and not have negative criticism cause of the display of its characters, thinking there will be none is just being ignorant. You may like it but a lot of us don't, deal with it.

@nToonCone I agree with the money scheme business. Unfortunalty, my love of spyro just likes to see him, even if its like this. Even the name is a joke, "spyros adventure" is only on there for that milking reason. Because anyone who has played it, knows you dont even need him, and he practically does nothing, as long as you have one skylander, you can probably beat the game.. So yes somewhat a scam, but the game is fun. For those reasons, my purple and yellow plated heart will probably end up

The game looks good. But they've raped Spyro. He looks terrible and it's a real stab in the heart for players of the original games. How would you feel if your favourite game/character/etc was completely changed? It's a horrible feeling. Knowing that a huge part of your childhood is destroyed. If they had kept Spyro's original appearance and the original characters, it would be a great game probably. I might play this on my modded Wii. But with a different character. That's just not Spyro.

@MissBarghest It depends on the change. It's different, but the question is what replaces it? Is the replacement good? Legend of Spyro gave Spyro a deep story and great combat. This game replaces all that with nothing. Change is not the problem, the type of change is. They progressed and evolved the series. Now it's regressing into some stupid toy game. Looking at hw simplistic and repetitive the game seems, I doubt a design change would make it any better.
