I heard thousands videos of Dave's singing, because Im both big fan of Metallica and Megadeth, but every person who really has some knowledge about music and especially voice would say that James is better vocalist than Dave. For me Dave is trying too much in studio, though I like sometimes his voice at concerts. Check some 1985~ videos where James is really in his fucking great years, with fucking high and aggressive voice.

Definately, James did a better job with the lyrics better with The Four Horsemen, they suit him, and the actually song much better. It was a little slowed down, sure, but the intrumental part + solo gives it a nice kick. The Mechanix is with a doubt, an amazing song, with it's speed. But both songs are equal, and were written(co-written) by masterminds of metal.

But I think Hetfields deeper, growl type vocals are more metal, and also heavily influenced how metal singers sing nowadays. and hetfield was just a better singer in general (eg melodies, harmonies, crowd interaction).
