  • Just snagged the last blast at target for 35 bucks. Seems like a cool tool

  • I always carry a Swiss Knife, I want to get a Blast. But, even if i do get a blast, I'm still carrying my Swiss knife!! No matter what.

  • @TacticalAngel86 i carry a swiss army trekker and leatherman blast ;P

  • Got my little Brother a Blast for Christmas.

  • got the blast for christmas, hopped on youtube for a quickie review but waiiit... nutnfancy already reviewed? now i know i got a nice mt, ofcourse i thought it was epic when i opened it myself but i definitely love this as an edc. the leather sheath is great for it, snap is heavy and tough. i use this thing every day, and my SAK, picked up the molle sheath also.

  • I'm planning on getting a Blast =D

  • the blast is a good tool, had it for about a month. How ever it seems the tool has bend somehow, i have not used the tool all that much, and when i did it was not anything major. sending it to leatherman to check out. Also the black finish holds up pretty good.

  • Bought a stainless version of the blast on your recommendation. LOVE IT! I just started to get into a serious EDC system for myself, and this is my first MT. It has already proven itself to be an indispensable asset that I must have on me at all times. I never realized the multitude of uses an MT can provide, whether conventional uses or unconventional (MacGyver syndrome kicking in at this point) Great Vid, great insight!

  • My black wave had that but it was excess of the factory paint job and only happens at first use but stopped very shortly after

  • Why would you do that to a Charge TI ?

  • Just got my Blast. Thanks Nut'n!

  • For all those people like myself, non-US citizens, I recommend going to amazon.com for your multitools, either leatherman or victorinox, I myself am Australian, and for the Juice XE-6 locally I'm looking at $180AUD and thats after 15% trade discount, however for an identical item on amazon.com $65AUD including postage. As of 2011. Hope this can help you TNPers while money is still tight. Cheers.

Keep up the GREAT work Nutnfancy

  • Hey nutn, i am looking at buying a multitool and the leatherman blast seems like a good option, but it does lack a serrated blade. I was on amazon the other day and saw that the super tool 300 is only 11$ dollars more. I would not use the tool heavily and i dont probably need all the things that super toll has but do you think i should get it beacuse of the small price difference?

  • collecting stamps. lmao

  • Nutn, get a Surge...you'll NEVER go back!

  • 60$ msrp on the blast, i got it for 30 on cheaper than dirt :D

  • just got this as a gift great tool

  • Just got me a Blast!!

  • a pliars works for taking the tool apart

  • Thanks to you Nuntn' I just decided to buy a Leatherman Blast!

  • Nutnfancy, the Fuse has no locking of the tools, which is kinda important

  • @aradilon The Fuse has locking tools, the Kick (not reviewed) does not.

  • @aradilon

that is incorrect, not only can you see the locking mechanism in the video but you can also refer to leatherman's website which highlights their locking mechanism on the fuse model.

  • @aradilon No dumb sir, all the fuse tools have a positive lock.

  • @aradilon it definitely does

  • Comment removed

  • Very helpful review, was looking for a multi-tool. Getting a Blast now. Keep up the great work!

  • Nutn, on your 1-10 scale what would you give the blast?

  • I agree about the kick being the black sheep in the Blast series. I feel that it does not have enough usable tools and it doesn't even lock.

  • in the blast model i kinda wish they would replace the file with an awl, but i still plan on buying this for military uses

  • mine came hair splitting sharp

  • I want to get the Blast.. I have the SOG Paratrooper right now..and it's just ok..

Tools don't lock, no scissors.. hard to pulls the tools out one at a time.

  • My non-blackened blast actually came with that third sheath. I suppose they've changed which one it comes with over the years.

  • because of my dad, im a gun guy. Because of my need for a knife when i ride horses, im a knife guy. Now because of you nutnfancy im a multitool guy. rock on nutn. Now i have a decision to make, Blast or Fuse?

  • Is the Blast thicker than the Fuse? I am thinking I'll get the Blast, but I was hoping it wasn't thicker by much than the Fuse with it's extra tools.

  • Picked up a Stainless Blast online NIB for less than $30 shipped.

  • Nice review, one thing did kinda take it down for me though.

    Contrast.

It'd be easier to see all the features if you showed the black tool first and then made the review on the ordinary one, it's easy to see IRL but the camera makes it harder to make out the details.

  • PS: The Blast in stainless finish, with a secure, snap-closing leather sheath (not pictured in the review, but as a civilian, I find it great) can be had for $40.

You can barely get a decent folding knife for that cash. That is a steal.

  • Blast is a great, solid medium MT. I keep mine in the "gear bag" in the trunk of my car, and get a ton of use out of it. The screwdrivers, the pliers, the blade, the seriously tail-kicking saw ... it's all good. I even use the inch ruler impressed on the side of the MT.

One improvement I could see is moving the main blade to the outside of the MT. That would provide a more convenient deployment, like the Leatherman Charge. Plus the blade edge would then be flush with the bottom of the MT.

  • you can get those in black

  • Another awesome review. Have you ever looked into Gerber tools? The Gerber Suspension is around the same price as these (although a little heavier), and it includes a few of the tools and features you talked about wanting in the blast that it didn't have.

  • man you should start working for leatherman as a salesman I would totally buy the whole product range from you :D

  • you can loosen those bolts in order to make to tools more easily extracted, to clean, etc. just use some pliers from any of those other multi tools or dedicated pliers to loosen em up. =]

  • I've been researching like crazy over the Swisstool, Wave, and Powerlock but the Blast pretty much suits me for its price.

With this Leatherman, is the leather sheath better or worse than the nylon one? Thanks

  • @Pimpzilla300

Get the nylon sheath, you can carry it horizontally and it fits the tool open.

  • leatherman should make a charge thats the size of the juice

  • Thanks for such an in depth video. You sold me on the blast, buying one now. Keep up the great videos.

  • I got lucky..xmas sale..£59.99 to £29.99..A Leatherman Blast in shiny steel version...well chuffed!! So glad I caught your vid a while back or else I might have not noticed the Blast name as a decent MT..nice one Nutn!!!

  • The Blast is the only and the perfect multitool for me. It has a comfy grip, a great sheath, tons of tools, razor sharp backup blade, locking tools and it looks great. I carry it every day with a small folder or medium fixed blade.

  • Blast doesnt have the open spring on the plyers.

  • What about the leather sheath? I like it better than the nylon ones.

  • OMG thank you nutnfancy i didint know my blast had a small phillips and flat driver intill now

  • I like all your videos. I would like you to do a review on the Leatherman Surge and the Leatherman Skeletool CX.

  • "Oh I love this tool, you can look up my video on what A PAIN IN THE BUTT IT WAS."

    that made me laugh

  • What about the current leather sheaths for the Leatherman Fuse etc? I just bought a Fuse new at Walmart for $17- they were half price because they were closing. Also bought another big Winchester MT and a couple of Bucks.

  • Nice reviews. I've been using the Fuse for years now and like it. I am considering upgrading my EDC multi-tool. I really like the Black Oxide look and want a saw and file. The Blast might be the answer for me but, I'm not sure I will want to carry anything bigger than the Fuse for EDC.

    Great Philosophy on collecting things.

  • Just ordered myself a Black Blast thanks to your video! Looking forward to getting it in. Also viewed the Swisstool video... and that thing is a looker. I'll have to save my pennies.

    Thanks for the video.

  • Why don't you do SOG Multi tools?

  • Hey man nice vid but I'm getting a leatherman wave I'm black n I was woundering if the paint wears off after a while n if way did u do to stop that from happing

  • im 13 and trying to be prepared, love my fuse, also carry a knife, and i am the only person i know that carries an mt or a knife. unfortunately, ive never had any firearms experience, because my parents are total pacifists and anti gun anything.

  • just want to say that the leatherman "Kick" is an excellent multitool at an excellent price. It's just too heavy for what it offers. But its only like 25 dollars so you get an excellent tool.

  • i got a fuse a few weeks back, but last week my dad broke his small screwdriver so he swapped his with mine -_-

  • Hey nutnfancy,

I just purchased the leatherman Blast after I watch this video and i was very impressed with it. but the reason i am responding is because the sheath that came with my blast allowed me to carry it open and in the sheath. it also has a larger strip of Velcro. I just thought you would like to hear that. and i think somebody from leatherman is taking notes and making improvements.

  • If I'm gonna have any money left after back to school shopping, I'm so gonna buy a Blast and carry it with my Leatherman E302, or buy a Spyderco Tenacious to go with it.

  • nutn, my dad passed me down his old PST a few years ago and i've been carrying it every day since, but the old shredded leather sheath can be a pain. You happen to know if any of the horizontal carry nylon ones you showed would fit it?

  • i don't know if u know this, but there is a bit driver for this model that u

can click on the phillips driver.

it takes leatherman bits and regular hex bits.

  • @Whisper6911 oh yeah, i think it might also work on the juice models

  • Damn, how comes leatherman cost so much in Australia, even a fuse cost $104 Australian dollars!

  • Not sure why the use of Zytel is such an issue with some leatherman fans.... Its basically the same type of polymer that a glock frame is made from and it does nothing but add additional strength and comfort to the tool ... I love the fact that Cores and Blasts are not as desirable as the Wave, Charge, ect.... Got my like new blast w/case on fleebay for 21 dollars shipped to my door.. Discovered the LM Blast from your review.

IMO, The.Core and Blast are Best Buys in the leatherman lineup.

  • did you buy that blast black or did you paint it, because i know they make a black one

  • Hey Nutn...what is/was your AFSC?

  • This week I broke my Blast, and was quite surprised how easy it was! I was using the saw on some light duty branches, the saw had bent inward a little bit (without my knowledge), and I squeezed the handles together to close the knife, and the pliers pushed the saw from the inside out, causing the entire locking mechanism to break out, thus rendering that side of the tool completely useless. As of now, I am very dissapointed with the quality, though customer service was exceptional!!

  • In what MT do you get a seatbelt cutter in?

  • @no1livez4evr

Check Victorinox Rescue Tool and others by the same brand...

  • Bought myself a fuse today at a sale at bass pro. For $24.00 thats like a sore peter. You simply cant beat it.

  • i got a pack set , the micra and blast at academy for 27.00 with tax. is is crazy the same store sells the micra for 19 and the blast for 49

  • when i broke my gerber i traded up to a wave leatherman and i have carried one every since it came out. i love it but i will try the blast it looks great

  • STOP sayin dudes nd dig nd stuff like that plz!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sexpistolskid Why not d00d? Not diggin it?

  • Highly recommend the fuse for a great field multi tool. It will take tone of abuse and wear. Attaches to molly in a few seconds. Any Marine or soldier looking for a light weight durable tool shoot pick one up.

  • Great review Nutn- I ended up getting the Blast (black-oxide) in the mail today, which was amazing considering it shipped less than 2 days ago, so kudos to yourcornerstore. However, I will say that I did experience some "transfer" of the black oxide when I began handling it. Gave it a quick wipe down and still retains a majority of the finish. Just something to be aware of when buying. For me, function always trumps looks. Great tool for the money.

  • i edc my blast and i love it! its cheap around 50 buck. great blade design good sheath, the leather one came with mine i rigged to enable horizontal carry. after carrying it for a week i feel naked without it.

  • Thanks for doing these multitool reviews. They have helped me to narrow down to a few choices. There are many to consider. I like how you show several different ones that is very beneficial to perspective buyers.

  • I wonder why they can't put the file on the sides of the saw blade. Just make the saw blade a little more square.

  • @744682532 if the file was on the sides of the saw it would cause the saw to drag as it cuts thru the material

  • Nutnfancy Ive been watching you for a while but havnt ever posted a comment but I want to thank you for all your time and hard work. Ive been looking for a multi-tool for my hunting/day hiking gear and something I can wear at work. I decided to buy both (hell they are so cheap why not!). Im going to use the Blast while hunting and the fuse for a more every day carry. Thanks again, I am a huge fan.

  • What is the name of the sheath at 08:05?

  • I have owned the blast for about three years and I love it. The Micro screw driver can be taken out and flipped turning it into a flat head micro screw driver. Thank you for all of your videos.

  • Thanks to you Nutn I have a Blast and I love it! It's done so many weird different jobs for me and it has "saved the day" more than once. Got it at Target for $47

  • I picked up a Leatherman Fuse for $22 with a keychain flashlight and sheath. I was disappointed with the tool sticking and not near as fluid as my Leatherman S2 Juice, which is a much better multitool in my opinion, despite its smaller size.

  • ive heard some people sayin for edc a leatherman kick is great. heres my ake on it. for the same weight you can get a leatherman juice c34. both way the same but the juice has more tools. the point can be made that the kick had better pliers but other than that i would take the cs4 any day. i own the kick and just don like it. especially since it is built like a mdmt but has nonlocking blades

  • i do have one critique of the blast, specifically the micro phillips screwdriver. They designed it as a hybrid halfway between two micro phillips sizes, and it seems to me that it doesn't engage either of these sizes effectively. When I tried it out on different screws in some pairs of glasses, it always seemed either slightly too big or slightly too small for the job. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

  • Wasn't happy with the build quality of my blast after pretty short use a fingernail sized metal piece of the handle broke off and i couldn't use the pliers anymore.

  • What do you think of the leatherman wave? Is it right underneath the Charge in quality? I just picked one up it Rocks!!!

  • I visit your site often to check out your reviews on gear gadgets etc. I like that you actually put this stuff to work to test it out. Keep up the good work because I wanna keep watching!!!

  • Just picked up a blast tonight at a sports box store for $ 35.00 love it, thanks nutn

  • I thik the victorinox swisstool SPIRIT is the best MT ever. It´s light weight (less than 6 ounces) and has all the tools of a HDMT.

  • i love your videos, i have a multy tool of my own it's a gerber heavy duty multi tool and i actual carry it around with me a lot. in my opinion i like the slide out pliers instead of the flip opens.

  • Same here, the slide-out is significantly more useful. Gerber's blades are also absurdly, ridiculously sharp, and the wirecutter piece is replaceable and actually cuts, doesn't just bend the wire... although I haven't held a new Leatherman in the last 2-3 years, they're likely comparable now.

  • I got mine back when they still predominantly used the leather sheaths, which I really like. It might not have the same functionality as the newer nylon sheaths, but I think the leather is just plain cool.

  • I love Leatherman! I've carried a Blast for the past four years, give or take, and it has never let me down. Very solid tool.

  • i use a older gerber i hate most multi tools for one simple thing i always get the palm of my hand pinched between the handles

  • Nutn, you are a man after my own hart. Instead of collecting stamps and coins, you collect usefull tools(good knives) and multitools and weapons rock on. I still have my first generation Letherman and still use it,even as a hammer (small nails and it works) before that i use and still use Victorinox, and also Gerber has great tools. Issue weight mt Victorinix,we can always contact them or put a link to you, they will listen. Can you do a review on the skelettool of Letherman, want your opion on it

  • @GuldenBattleSpur YAH YAH YAH SUCK HIS DICK U LITTLE KID

  • nutnfancy, you should make a knife collection video. It would be awesome if you could.

  • ordered a black blast w/ molle sheath due to your outstanding review!! Giving my wife more things to stress about lol Thanks for another great review Nutn!

  • I like the "tool clumping". Its great for assiting my tool deployment without having to use my fingernails, which has been a life saver while wearing gloves. It also helps in deploying the knife blade safely. Just my thoughts on it.

  • Well Done Sir

  • good vid nutn!! have you heard of the gerber suspension knife? its got the handle like my gerber parafram 2 knife

  • i like gerber for good mostly cheap knives but still good quality however i used my gerber multitool every day and finally the pliers failed shattered one whole side of them

  • nurnfancy howcome they always have those pop-up ads on your videos. on you-tube. thats annoying. i'd do something about that.

  • Buddy, is you experience pop-ups and annoying ads, it definately ain't Nutn's vids. Did you perform a malware checkof some sort?

  • im going to have to do that. cause im gettin bombed with these pop-ups but mainly on your site.

  • Great comment by nutn: "How about an awl? I'm awl for that."

  • What is the likely hood of the inserts popping out from use ? Never checked any multi tool ruler are they pretty accurate ? I discount the knife glasses driver as I always carry a glasses repair kit since they weigh basically nothing and come with tweezers and a small blade driver, Cloth, rubber nose pads and a few small screws.

  • I dont know how it is with victorinox, but friend of mine was selling bikes, some with LIFETIME WARRANTY. What they wasnt telling at the shop? it wasn yours lifetime, but bike's lifetime, wich was rated 5 years. :D

  • Awesome review, on a side note I like the longer reviews.

  • Looks like a great value, thanks for taking the time to do the vid!

  • Who's crankin your arm behind your back and forcing you to watch? I'll beat them up for you! -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • lololololololol

  • @nutnfancy lolz

  • You've noticed the pause button haven't you?

  • what branch of the military was nutn

  • He's Air Force.

  • lskw1 - he's got a video on my channel (look up Verilioness on youtube) that explains more about his service. -- Veri (Nutn's sister)

  • Nutnfancy I have two issues

1Here is an Idea for a multitool review

    Swisscard by Victornox

2When is your next gun review

  • You could not be more wrong. I have carried the same Victorinox SAK for over 20 years and it has always proven faithful. Victorinox and Wenger both are time-tested and have proven themselves time and time again. Leatherman is good, but this does not mean they are superior to Swiss products.

  • No I'm not wrong. I have never had a swiss army knife that didn't break. It's just the way it is. I wouldn't own anything that is made by that company. Over priced, and under quality in my opinion. I've bought 10 multi-tools that were made better than my swiss ones. Just what I've seen. I work in the drilling industry, and I use tools, and I use them hard. If it can't take what I got to dish out, it's junk. Leatherman can take it, swiss can't. Period.

  • While I will agree that Victorinox may not be as heavy-duty as Leatherman products, this does not make them inferior. SAK's are excellent tools in their own element, such as the outdoors where they excel. I would not expect an SAK to perform well in your line of work, just as Leatherman is useless in the woods. I wouldn't take a corvette for a drive off-road and call it garbage because of its inability to perform. Right tool for the right job.

  • Can you tell me somthing about the walther wa2000 I am very interested in this rifle

  • @lskw1 He's an Air Force tanker pilot.

  • im a civilian/citizen,and the kick serves me fine, for my budget.

  • nah. . I push letherman wave.

  • NutnFancy; you forgot one other variation in this Leatherman family and thats the knifeless Fuse that replaces the knifeblade with a file.. Its excellent for those wanting to pack a medium-sized MT, but are prohibited by law because of the locking blade. Its also excellent for those, like myself, who pack a bigger primary folding knife for all cutting tasks. I use a Tenacious with my knifeless Fuse. Take care and thanks for taking the time to post this.

  • Damn, my blast is so old it came with a leather sheath. Wish he would've reviewed that.

  • Comment removed

  • OUTSTANDING! Think I'm going to ask Santa for the Charge TTi

  • Great vid nutnfancy!!

  • Hey, nutn, would it be possible to make custom tools to fit inside the larger models? Such as blades with different steels?

  • 7:30

The sharp edge of the opened blade is on the upper handle of the tool. Don't you have problems with handling while using it? On Victorinox Swiss Tool, it is on the lower handle and therefore the blade is in one line with it.

  • I packed a Leatherman Fuse through two combat deployments.

    Good tool. Still have it.

  • I'm really glad I found this channel, so much intressting stuff and I learned alot.

Thank you nutnfancy and keep up the good job :-)

  • nutnfancy dont worry about the haters

    u are tha shit

    god bless the sheepdogs

  • I definately like my swiss made victorinox. Leathermans are great, but I think the swiss made is stronger and worth the extra few ounces to carry.

  • nutnfancy, have you ever tested the SOG MTs? I saw one with exchangable tools. would like to have your opinion on those.

  • you should design and produce your own knife products, i know id buy :)

  • Of value to some of us a singe-stack mag can be carried in a Leatherman tool pouch for CCW. My personal experience is with a P239 mag in a Leatherman Wave pouch.

  • Military EOD guys have eleventy billion uses for tools an implements on the job. An effective MT, a decent folding knife, non-sparking crimper (etc.) tool, and maybe a larger and/or defensive blade...on top of any other normal patrol gear (M4, mags, LBE, PPE, etc.) Having a compact and capable option is critical in an MT. Thanks for the review!

  • need a multi-tool with TNP stamped on it!

  • I was lucky to get my stainless color blast for $17 plus $5 shipping on ebay.

  • oh yeah and the Kick does not have locking tool (even the blade)... still cool

  • i want this for fishing. and a one handed opening knife actually.

  • Comment removed

  • my favorites are the waves i have punished mine and have had no prob with them and they have always got the job done.

  • I've had my Blast for going on 4 years and I love it. No, I don't carry it everyday. It's my working around the house/project tool. Used so that I don't have to run around all over the place if I just need some pliers, file, or driver. About 2 years ago I dropped in on some concrete and busted on of the locking parts. Sent it back and Leatherman fixed it within 3 weeks. Now I'm working some WD-40 into b/c it's getting a little gummed out. Love it! I'm sure it will continue working for me!

  • no jimping. what gives, who are you? just kidding, another great review.

  • did you know that the wave has a conceiled lanyard ring in the handle it has to be slid out

  • Right on Nutn! Great review. I absolutely love my Surge. Beast of a tool, but tons of capability. (Yes, it is on me ALL the time!) Had one prob. with the locking lever breaking off. Sent it to Leatherman and not only did I get it back in less than a week, they cleaned, oiled, AND put a new bit in the driver for me!! EXCELLENT customer support. Thanks so much for all the hard work, it's GREATLY appreciated.

  • Since I have a bit driver and bit set for my Charge, I've thought about grinding the straight-slot driver down into an awl...

If you have a bit set and driver, then why did they put the straight -slot tool in there?

    Hmmm...

  • there's also the Knifeless Fuse, which is nice for people like me going to school since I can't carry a knife on campus but still want to be prepared.

  • @ BraveEchoMike: Seriously!? You can't carry a knife on campus! Wth is that? Is that normal for colleges?

  • @braveechomike seriously dude that sucks you can't carry a knife? I'd feel naked without one!

  • That is so stupid that they won't let me carry my Charge TTI in high school.

  • 3.5 inch knife on it. Many universities have a 3" limit and any public schools don't allow any blades.

  • Get the knifeless fuse then. No knife on it, so why wouldn't they let you carry that?

  • Yeah... Kinda makes me depressed though that I need to pay $40 for an inferior multi-tool because of school policy.

  • dont carry a multi tool in high school?

i always carry my crkt m16sfg, not a multi tool, but i use it for everything anyway.

  • public high school, some boy scout almost got expelled for having some sort of blade in his car as part of an emergency kit

  • im a boy scout, and i keep 2 knives in my car all the time

    one fixed blade one folding.

  • a college student got expelled a few years back for having metal butter knives in his car from where he was moving into the dorms..
