Jeep Patriot 2.0 CRD (d is for diesel) did 52MPG in a recent test which is something that americans aren't even considering and Jeep isn't bringing that engine to the states as far as i know. but hey, maybe you'll get around when gas costs 10 bucks a gallon like it did here 6 months ago.

Don't get me wrong, fuel mileage is the most important thing, but people aren't looking for good mileage when they buy a Jeep. They want excellent offroad performance, which is something that the Patriot and the Compass simply can't deliver.

It's true, many people buy SUVs that don't really need them, but where I live (western Nevada), a place where roads are not always well mantained, and there's ice on the ground from November to April, a vehicle with 4WD and high clearance DOES come in handy.

honestly im a huge car guy and i love speed but even i don't get it. There is nowhere on earth you can go that fast except like the VW test track. And if you go there your by yourself so it would just be boring anywhere. Its the same as the cold war. The Americans had enough nukes to blow up the entire planet. Then the russians built enough to do it twice and so on. Now theres enough to blow up the world like twelve times. Its just a number, yet everyone still wants it.

Yes it is dangerous to speed but think about this as speeds increase safety features must also. If a Porsche 911 turbo had 150hp it sure would be safer than a grand am with the same hp. These features allow us to travel at a 70 or 80 mph speed limit on a highway separated from pedestrians and other vehicles "safely" if all cars we forced to produce safety features equivalent to 6 stars on a five star scale highway speeds could be increase and people would still be safe in this situation.

i remember that clarkson said that the veyron needs 8 horsepower for one kilometer/hour more of acceleration. that means that the veyron could have a 281 mph top speed with the extra 350 bhp!!! omg thats amazing!
