  • F1 Racing co? :)

  • eric morecambe is a superb comedian, without filth the guy can reduce you to a gibbering wreck,so funny, luv im!

  • Love this, RIP Eric and Ernie and James H

  • Classic!

  • since when did anyone choose gas stations by anything but which is closest?

  • @flyingspacepotatoes since before there were rules about what is 'gas' back in the day some stations would sell it cheap... because it was crap low octane stuff. now the law says all fuel has to be a certain octane to be sold.

  • @themunster back in the seventies road petrol octane was higher than todays because lead was used.

  • @gilessmokey Comparatively yes, but what I'm saying is that it wasn't consistent, brands actually made a difference where as now the rules on manufacture are so tight that it's basically all the same.

  • I remember the one where Eric called James Hunt JANE Hunt. For years after, I couldn't hear the name James Hunt without thinking "JANE Hunt"...

  • James Hunt que homem lindo

  • HUNT THE SHUNT

  • Great James Hunt

  • @762SLR762 wow !! I believe that closed all of them in New Jersey and New York.

  • boy you can tell this is old Texaco closed up their stations in the NY/NJ area almost 10 years ago.

  • what does eric say to make james laugh ?

  • @behindthelines72

James says; 'What's in it then?'

Eric says; 'Only you at the moment, Sunbeam'

  • @PIPZZZ02 Did you notice James at that point smile then suck his cheeks to stop a full on laugh. I bet so many takes were done for this ad.. Eric Morecombe was famous for over rehearing to make sure he was perfect then ad libbing or a facial jesture just off camera to make others 'corpse'. Thats what added to the plesure of watching him knowing everyone is fighting to get through a scetch.

  • @1schummif I know - not all humour passes the test of time but this is still funny all these years on.

  • Notice james Hunt starts to laugh and manages to hold it...hahahahah

  • what beautiful guy was james! he was the best in f1 and in the life

  • Eric looks like Vic Reeves!

  • No, Vic Reeves looks like Eric!

  • you wouldn't let it lie

  • I used to be in charge of commissioning Texaco ads in '76. This was one of a series with these guys. It was fun to make, and I recall Morecambe going around with that spanner asking if anyone wanted their nuts tightened...

I asked each of the participants (all now dead) to sign the spanner after the shoot, and I still have the spanner on display in my study at home.

It would probably fetch a worthwhile sum on ebay but I wouldn't want to part with a memento of a great day.

  • @texacoadwaybackwhen

That's a great story. Many thanks for sharing it. Showed that gents they were off screen as well as on screen

  • lol!

  • one of my idols is james hunt on formula 1

  • reminds me when steptoe and son did a kenco advert :)

  • hahahaha brilliant : )

  • great stuff

  • Bit different from Cevert's TV advert in France four or five years earlier. If I remember he was dressed like one of the persuaders. Buggered if I can remember what he was advertising though.

  • time waits for no man

  • so will you

  • @eggzy43 - might have chosen your words a bit better, like "All no longer with us" or similar.

  • fantastic, never seen that before!

  • This is fabulous!

  • Interesting. Deeply odd but interesting.
