I have total respect for the band colorguard teams. I just wish they didn't spin these fake rifles. I find it kinda disrespectful to military drill teams and the such. I just graduated High School, where I was th AFJROTC Talons Drill Team Commander. We spin actual rifles. It's not even about spinning really. It's about showing precision, teamwork, and excellence. To me the Band colorguard teams are mocking military drill teams.
@TalonsArmedDrill Colorguard/Winterguard is about the exact same thing to show precision, teamwork, excellence, and discipline. As you describe it the band colorguard.....started in the Military....the things we do can never be done with real rifles....I have the most respect for drill teams but we are in no way mocking them.....

@TalonsArmedDrill If you read the history of Colorguard it in no way is mocking. Colorguard(band) originated from the military. It is true that we are not able to spin a real rifle with the tricks we do. We do ours with more flow and dance. We (band colorguard) all respect the Drill Teams and JROTC and military. We wouldn't be able to look graceful or do 5's or even 6's, its kind of impossible unless you have muscles like hulk. Its 2 different things you cant look at it like were doing what military rifle lines do. If you watch winter guards and think of them using ACTUAL rifles it just wouldn't work.

Before you start to brag about spinning "actual rifles", remember that guard does a lot more than spin. I would personally love to see you on the floor with you ROTC rifle, tossing behind the back, tossing a seven to someone far away, and dancing like a diva. On the side, excellent video.
@fireneji well, there is this wonderful website called youtube, where you can search through millions upon millions of videos. There's a great number of them where someone is throwing a real rifle around their back, throwing sevens, and spinning them while on the floor. Also, doing many more amazing moves that you couldn't even dream of doing with your light weight rifle, that'll fly away when the wind picks up. Have fun surfing! :D

Some guards use actual sabres in their performances, but we can't use real guns because of laws and the schools would be paranoid. We actually have weapons as equipments to honor the color guards roots from the military in a way.

ouch! i hate when it hits your hand like that. hurts so bad, but hurts worse on sabre! gah! very cool tricks though, not much to say for improvement, but for tighter catches, and to make sure his hand gets all the way on the end of the nose when he catches. all in all VERY cool! keep it up :)

and i don't spin with gloves on unless i'm practicing outside when the ground is wet, which makes my rifle wet...so yeah, lol. gotta build up your hands to get use to it. lol
we only spin with gloves in fall but in winter if you don't spin sabre you don't wear gloves. i built endurance and i can now do 7s and not hurt my hands.
dang yeah...i can't the most i can do and catch solid with out it hurting like crap is a 5 lol....we spin with glove indoor and outdoor......i think mostly indoor because when we prac. we're either in an gym with no AC or outside..so it get slippery....lol idk we were just used to it i guess

i guess just about everyone uses a 39 lol.
oh & i really think i do need a new rifle.
i was messing around with the one my coach gave us and i went to catch it, and it cut my thumb and tore a big chunk of skin away. it hurt soo badly.

we have no guys in our guard.

i'm the best out of everyone and the most i can do is a quad. i taught myself everything, though. our instructor hasn't taught us crap. i learn everything from youtube videos.

everything in that video we just were like ummm what can we try and this year was the first year we've had an instructor so everything before this year I taught myself.

wow. i'm not that creativd. hah! but this summer i have been working a lot to make my rifle skills better. hopefully when band camp comes around, i can prove to my team, intructor, and band director that i know what i'm doing. lol.

hahaha, niiice. ours is a class too but we just sign up for band and she teaches us(our guard coach). it's all year and it's my first block, hour and a half long. lol. I wish we had more practice time though...lol
oh, and btw, when you're going back and forth with the spins, are you just doing normal spins going back and forth or singles? o.O

and i don't spin with gloves on unless i'm practicing outside when the ground is wet, which makes my rifle wet...so yeah, lol. gotta build up your hands to get use to it. lol

no you want to spin with gloves in most guards they won't let you spin unless you have gloves.....safty reasons

we only spin with gloves in fall but in winter if you don't spin sabre you don't wear gloves. i built endurance and i can now do 7s and not hurt my hands.

dang yeah...i can't the most i can do and catch solid with out it hurting like crap is a 5 lol....we spin with glove indoor and outdoor......i think mostly indoor because when we prac. we're either in an gym with no AC or outside..so it get slippery....lol idk we were just used to it i guess
