  • Zeitlos...

  • What a brilliant voice and sound, so many 80's bands still around today, what a treat it would be to hear Talk Talk play live again, come on Mark, come out of retirement and show them all how it's done

  • SHIT, I 've born in 93 ! =[

  • This version is great. It's the piano imo.

  • What makes Hollis so enigmatic ,is he doesn't always show up.Too early retirement.not enough time in rate,I don't know.Talk Talk could have been a contender!!All we here is U2&Jovi.The 80's stink.

  • I like this version a lot better than the album version. I think it's the piano.

  • its a real Warick fretless bass. I was there on stage playing the piano!

  • @ramocon hi, who is the other keyboard player on the roland jx3p, since i thought friese greene didnt play live?

  • Re-union! Messrs Hollis and Co

  • Never knew they sounded on stage as on the album. Amazing singer and song!

  • It's hard to imagine a song much better than this. The 60s, 70s, and 80s were all hard to beat. I've lived through them all. Music is good now (some of it, anyway), but music back then was great. Some groups were known for one or two songs, and then they were gone, but their music lives on. No doubt about it.

  • fantastic!!!

  • I fuckin love this song

  • i wish i was there

  • BTW, i remember a version in which the bassist played a 4 strings Music Man. Powerful, neat and...sharp!! Someone found it?

  • I'm in heaven!!

  • It'd be great with a real drummer.

  • such a great time. 80's !

  • Wow! A pretty darn good live version of a classic tune! Long live the 80's :)

  • Why is there a dislike button? Eighties at there very best. Great and joyous song and performance.

  • The 80s was the best of times !!!!

  • The 80's was the last decade of truly good music. Today's music fails horribly in comparison. Today every group or singer has digital voice enhancers and hardly any of them play their own instruments. If you are on the Disney Channel you have your own recording contract whether you can sing or not. What ever happened to pure raw talent?

  • @ukkats1998 SO TRUE !!! todays music sucks !!!

  • @FellPonyz "I do prefer No Doubt's cover" Are you kidding me?!

  • this made me shiver (H)

  • I'm surprised how well Mark Hollis can sing live.... Top Top Top tune!!!

  • This is live version, only one thousand years before "No doubt"'s own version. And still only million times better than Gwen's...

  • This is awesome

Although, I do prefer No Doubt's cover..

  • Currently, there are no bands in this league. Long live/love Talk Talk !

  • Difficult song to recreate live..Great performance from a very talented band!..

  • I'm stuck in the 60s and the 80s. That kind of music and this kind of song just can't get any better.

  • This is a great 80's song. One of the defining songs of that decade. Great!!

  • Wow, that voice, love it! Never get tired of 80s music ,best years of my life.

  • But what fucking happens with Mark Hollis!!!!

    anyone knows?

  • @kayapower released 1 solo album few years ago now...heard he "retired"...the last 3 talk talk albums are 3 of the best albums....

  • bloody good music!!!

  • ouch.. bass is flat

  • @dagga36 couldn't it be flatwound bass strings? They were the only thing pretty much used in all music before the late 70s anyway.

  • @dagga36

    Such a shame.

  • @ShortRoundMcFly72

    half step lower?

  • @ShortRoundMcFly72 Yeah really! Such a shame to believe that Talk Talk could play one of their best songs out of tune

  • @dagga36 Maybe...but what a riff - what a vocal - what a song!!!

  • @dagga36 it's called FLATWOUND strings and sheesh it doesn't sound that far off from the original version

  • @dagga36 This damn 80's fretless fashion!!

  • @dagga36 It is nothing of the sort. It's a synth bass, with some cross-modulation/detuning on one oscillator, so maybe you're noticing that.

  • I thought this was performed in Montreal?

  • The 80s were the best of times !!! live long !!!

  • omg I had a few shots whiskey I cant stop playing this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love this the originals TALK TALK here singing there HEART and SOUL out. Love the video crowd but NO DOUBT is the only group that had a live concert close to this perfection singing the same song.

  • Perfect in sense of lyrics and emotion, beautiful voice even live... i find one get absorbed in the pasion and energy he creates in the performance

  • Comment removed

  • playback !

  • Flipp'in AWESOME!!!!

  • now this is QUALITY music, top notch performer. 80s baby!

  • hey shortround by any chance can you post that HATE performance :), ill love to hear it

  • Great version of an amazing song.

  • I love so much this music...

make me dream...make me dance, make me happy!

  • best eigties song ever real men singing there hearts out

  • This by far is the best version of this song. Their studio version is great by this version is far better. No Doubt did a good job covering this song but no where as good as Talk Talk's versions.

  • Mark, we know that is your life, but "Talk" to us again !!

  • The 80s will never Die !!! LIVE LONG !!!

  • The 80s were the best of timws !!!!

  • Mark Hollis is finne! With a beautiful voice, Talk talk need to get back together

  • Brilliant rhythms, brilliant guide tones, brilliant lyrics, brilliant hooks, brilliant emotional impact ... Am I making myself clear?

  • more i hear it, more i love it...

  • Follow the bassline ... it's a genius !!! Once of the most innovative ever.

  • what ever happend to this band great music

  • I'm 60. Get me a straight-jacket. This song rocks!

  • talk talk mit den Cultliedern sind wir aufgewachsen.

Das war unsere Zeit Talk Talk, Duran Duran, U2.

Damals war ich 15 und hatte meine erste richtige Freundin^^ man war die süss.

  • The haunting, dulcet tones of Mark Hollis. There is nothing better.

  • its about time mark hollis/talk talk were in the music hall of fame.

  • its about time mark hollis/tall talk were in the music hall of fame.

  • Fucking excellent...thank you

  • Talk Talk rocks!!!!!!!!!

  • until that time machine is invented, i can recommend the 'live at Montreux 1986' dvd. Available from all good online stores!

  • Damn good live song... bass sounds a little out of tune, but other than that - perfection! Much respect to bands who sound awesome live.

  • ...a definite favourite from the 80's....gotta love the bass pattern!!

  • one of my top 3 fave songs of all time shame cant hear the classic bass line in this vid too clearly

  • Talk Talk !! An absolutely cool rocking band!! I have loved them since the first day I heard this song and I have never stopped. I just love the way this song really touches my heart!! This song is so magical and phenomenal at its best for sure!! I sure do miss the days of Talk Talk and I sure as hell miss the 80's! There will never be a time like it again but at least we have our memories and we still have this rockin' music!! Wish I could go back again though!! Missing the 80's forever!!

  • @juniebird72 I adore Talk Talk. I have them on my mp3 aswell. I like this one, the best, and Life's What You Make It, and also Such A Shame...one of the best ever 80s bands.....If I ever figure out how to make a timemachine, you can join me as well as all those other 80s fans, and we'll all trip back to '84 or whatever!!!!!!

  • @83Brokenwings You just give me a call when you get that time machine ready and my bags will be packed and ready to go my friend!!! :)))

  • @83Brokenwings Can I join you? I miss the days... This is one of my all time faves... Mark is amazing!!! Oh the days, eh? Great memories.... :o)

  • @Ooothoseeyes yeah you sure can! lol! 80s forever!!!!!

  • @83Brokenwings WOO HOO!!! Yay!!!1 I'm soooo packing and raring to go! Memories revisited! :o)

  • @83Brokenwings P.S. I couldn't resist looking at your page... Seriously, you def. would've made a fabulous 80s teen! You're already rocking it!

  • @Ooothoseeyes Thanks!! Yeah I'm a real 80s girl esp Mr Mister lol!!

  • @83Brokenwings... I love that song and group! I hear you! :o)

  • @83Brokenwings Im a real 80s man !!!!

  • @juniebird72 agreed those were the days eh:)

  • @nickgratton1 Totally my friend, totally!!!:))

  • These guys just oozed talent.

  • A great song that sounds even better live. Thanks for posting.

  • ITs Mylife DonT YoU ForGeT

  • A much better version than "no doubt"

  • No Doubt, lol!

  • @allanmatt Really, but, this song is amazing.

  • talk talk rockz!!

  • preety good version

  • if it wasnt for this version no doubts version would never appeared my opinion if it wasnt for the band no doubt gwen stefani would not exist in the form you all know of her now

  • the bassplayer has issues with tuning,

    even on the studiotrack

  • tell me about it!

  • Is fantastic see this video after a long time searching he... i will to sing so much now.

  • I think he's hot!

  • Mark sings this better than all other Talk Talk songs. It seems like emotionally he's saying "Its my life...so fuck you" He puts it all out there, a quality that lacks in todays music.

  • very good song but i disagree Depeche mode was the king of the new wave and synth pop they have been at it forever and still sell out concerts.

  • Top group, can remember seeing them in 1984, the same year i saw the smiths and new order. It was a very good year for music!!

  • yeah i agree Gwen Stefanimis very cool but Talk Talk Is the KING OF THE NEW WAVE!!!

  • The original version is awesome as much as i like Gwen Stefani's version it does not compare to Talk Talk's original.

  • Gwen Steffanis version is not bad. But the original still rocks!

  • remember seeing them play live on The Tube in 1986, couple of tracks from colour of spring-totally live and it was awesome!

  • funny thing is-i thought they were a studio band-i did'nt think they could produce the same sound "live"........"i'm staggered"..........forgive me!

  • So much different than today's music. The band and musicians working together to create a sound, vibe expression and the audience actually can take hold, feel it and come along for the ride.

    Sublime!!!

  • After 25 years so good, so very very good.

  • yep...........great music stands the test of time, and this song does!........how much of the crap out today do you think will be played in 2034? probably not much.

  • Not exactly HD, but one on my fav's

  • really good =)

  • Was this recorded in England?

  • Thanxs for the upload !

  • where are they?

  • Great song. It was such an experimental sound for the time. And worked like a dream before sunrise.

  • I must correct myself...Mark's guitar isn't unplugged

  • I love this song!!

  • j'adore sa voix!

et puis ce tube est vraiment culte!

  • Possibly Rockpalast or Musik Laden... most of my favourite bands played there. I'm not sure the song works so well in this key...

  • Is that a Wal bass?

  • spamboli

    Hollis's guitar playing is suspect

T'seems it's unplugged.. anyway, nice Gretsch 'Country Gent'!

  • Holliss's guitar looks plugged in with lead hanging out to me. Check em when all are strumming together.

  • Very good singer though. And a very good song. Really nice changes.

  • I saw them in 84 or 85 when they opened for Berlin. That was one great concert. it was hard to decide who played better that nite.

  • Great song! Classic from the 80's!

  • it seems to me that Weezer based their song "Island in the sun" on the riff at 4:21, probably intentionally considering they covered a different Talk Talk song.

excellent performance, although Hollis's guitar playing is suspect (prop?).

  • What an awesome performance!!!

  • some memories come into my mind!!!!

i think is one of the best songs ever thank god for this kind of music!!!!

  • adore the song by talk talk. But where is this? Seems to be Deutschland. I think i see a lot of enthused Germans.

  • Rockpalast

  • @TheCrippledGiant

    Montreaux jazz festival

  • Can anyone Explaine why Mark Holies is retired, just red it on wikipedia, such shame to stop so talented en so beautyfulll and he just stops and leaves us without Talk talk...lets Talk, talk Talk back again....Mark i miss you.come back soon...:)

Best band the 80th had to offer...and Mark has a voice that the soul understand...

  • exclusive lounge singer now, i think.

  • Beeeyootiful! Another youtube gem!

  • Canzone troppo bella, che ha fatto la storia della musica anni 80.

  • So weak without the guitar line - why has he got an acoustic on!

  • The acoustic burn at 4:20 is awesome.

  • I love the acoustic in this version!

  • Awesome LIVE version! This is probably my most favorite song from the 80's. That says a LOT considering what a great decade for music that was. Thanks for posting!

  • thanks for posting...love 80's very much...and this song is one of the big hits in 80's... :-)

  • Woah !

    I love it^^!!

  • the best!!

  • La bass à 4:12.... too much...

  • love talk talk but i hated gwens version,i think if your gonna sing do your own stuff, leave the originals alone, enough ranting, may all talk talk fans stay true we still listen to the best music ever ,fact

  • AMEN TO THAT!!!!

  • Yes,I agree and I stopped liking Gwen and No Doubt when they covered this song.

  • I'm sorry, but I only saved an flv. file from when antisoshal posted this concert. This is the only video I saved.

  • Scratch that... I saved the audio from "Hate" from this preformance.

  • Wow, quelle ambiance...j'aurais adoré être là! Toute une voix ce M.Hollis! GREAT!

  • Help!!! Does anyone know what happened to the magnificent version of "Such a Shame" from this same concert?! The video was posted here - and it had a priceless moment of Mark Hollis and the bass player exchanging a beautiful smiling laugh towards the end. Such a shame indeed that it's been taken off. As for the Gwen Stefani travesty of "It's My Life": "It's TALK TALK's song!"

Thank you, thank you Mr. Mark Hollis - your music has meant so much to so many of us.

  • I didn't realise how bad is the performance of Gwen before I came back to this one...

  • I always felt that No Doubt did a credible job with the reamke, but the original sets such a high standard, as evidenced here. This is very much 'their' song.

  • Great Stuff!

  • Excellent!! Mark Hollis & co aways deliver quality

  • i'm glad somebody thinks so!thank you.

  • one of the all time best songs!

  • ShortRoundMcFly, you are awesome for reposting this. I love this version. Now can you please upload "Such A Shame" from the same German concert DVD? Or tell me where I can get my own copy of the DVD? I remember seeing these guys live when I was 16. . .just the best.

  • Great song, such a genius!!!!!

  • tää on äly hyvä biisi, äälyttöömään hyvä!!!

  • Great!

  • Luv this song!!!

  • fantastic song
