  • This is the saddest of the versions. Even the antiquated sound quality adds to its charm. Truly great.

  • Now This one is the one I remember. Love this song from '59 !

  • It sounds like the original version, but with a string section added in addition to it.

  • This song sounds like an appropriate one for 9/11. My name is Fred Tenzer, I was born in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, I live in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA, and my email address is rocket88_doowop@yahoo.com

  • @ftenzer : I agree.

  • he was Luther Prekins brother

  • Can't you imagine yourself in a "sweet shop" booth sipping on a rootbeer soda with jukebox playing this song in 1959?

  • To all my gone friends R.I.P.

  • Song was recorded at Sun Studios in Memphis...was released on Fernwood records in 1959...there are 2 versions of the recording....one in Stereo with strings

  • I shared a spot on stage with Thomas, We think he left us to soon!

  • I haven't heard this song since I was a little boy-it was on one of those 'rock-n-roll' collection albums of the '60's. Wow

  • The song has descended from the heavens.....I was born in 1959 and am now going back from 1940 chronologically...and I am at 1959 at the moment.....wow, superb...superb...superb...haunting sound...thomas wayne sublime vocals.....truly a song put together in heaven !!! The song brings tears and joy and haunts the soul in me !!!

  • damn haunting vocals-love this song!

  • It's a tie ...

  • @rolandquinlan : Roland ? Great name, I'm a "Roland" too.

  • the brother of Johnny Cash's Guitarist

  • I always remember first hearing this on our oldies radio station in the early 1970's. I got accustomed to hearing the strings version, and I think I prefer that one. A rare beautifully haunting song, it hooked me on the first listen. Great supporting backups.

  • Thanks for all your comments !!

  • @MrRJDB1969

Do you happen to know if he was related to Carl Perkins?

  • @likecrazydaddy His brother.

  • @likecrazydaddy no Luther Prekins

  • This seems like a slightly different version, sounds like strings in the background.

Perhaps this is a different take from the same session, I can't hear any strings on my original 45.

Thank you also for posting the very rare photo of Wayne and the Delons

  • Ah, yes..May-June, 1959.. Markham Jr High..LA, California..All went by fast, didn't it..? Great, great song..

  • Very nice to have a picture of the group. Thank you for the background info, MrRJDB1969. One of the top songs of a decade with many great songs.

  • It hurts to listen...it's that beautiful

  • My all time favorite tune from '59! I also like the Brenda Lee, Fleetwoods versions but Wayne's is the best!
