  • To anyone who claims that EVs move the pollution to a power plant: oil drilling=pollution, shipping=pollution, refining=pollution, distribution=pollution, driving=pollution. EVs: power generation=pollution, electricity distribution=zero, driving=zero. Plus, electric motors are INSANELY efficient, so they use more energy per unit of pollution. I think EV's are somewhere in the high 90%'s for energy efficiency, where gasoline engines are well below 50%.

  • @jeffsandychelsea but how can one last before its all washed up? a current gasoline vehicle can run for well around 50 or 60 years in beat up shape.

  • @hambone9119 Average life of an internal combustion engine car is 15 years.

  • @milofonbil Wow i never knew that you learn something every day, though i must say i my panal van has the orignal Engine with 1million kmh on the clock, and its not blowing smoke yet, i guess it depends, some are lucky some arent. At high speeds though the engine sounds rattly and worn.

  • @jeffsandychelsea

I buy 100% renewable electricity and gas. Pollution = ZERO.

Internal combustion vehicles are only 15-20% efficient in converting gasoline (which has 33.5 kWh of energy in a gallon) to motion on pavement.

Electric motors are very much in the high 90's. Electric motors can also be used with regenerative breaking. Slowing down or going downhill charges the batteries.

  • Wind turbines don't work in the cold. "Clean coal" will be captured and transported to carbon dump sites halfway across the country leading to further "global warming" or "climate change".

Bifacial solar panels are slightly over 20% in efficiency. If we rely on massive solar fields where energy is transported over long distances 7% of electricity will be lost.

  • Rather than use coal to generate electricity to power a car, why not run a car on coal DIRECTLY and cut out the middle man?

    Stanley Steamer FTW!

  • The car I currently drive is a 1.25 Petrol, Ford Fiesta, CO2 emissions = 139 g/Km

    I get my electricity from Airtricity CO2 emissions = 70.4 g/kWh

    GMs Volt, I read will use 25 kw/160km, or 0.156 kw/km

Therefore, in all electric mode its CO2 emissions will be 0.156 kw/km * 70.4 g/kWh =10.98 g/km, compared to the Fiesta (a small clean car). Thought Id share this info.

  • Yes now remove clip.

  • EV IS THE FUTURE !

  • Conservatives are against change, even if it's good. Imagine if most cars were electric, and liberals wanted to change to gasoline. They would say, why would I want a car that I could not refuel at home? Why would I want a car that's so noisy? Why would I want a car that could kill me if I started it in my garage? There are 100s of ways to make electricity, but only one way (with a lot of steps) to make gasoline, if one of those steps fail, I would not be able to refuel my car.

  • electrics are 35% o 97% (theroetical maximum) less polluting than gas powered cars REGARDLESS of the energy source.

But heres whats really interesting...using an electric bicycle is more energy efficient that walking, jogging, running or conventional bicycle. Why? Because of regenerative braking and perpetual motion, potential energy (rolling down a hill) and kinetic energy can be used also to regenerate the battery. Even without this just having an electric motor is mor effiecent anyway.

  • BUT why is an electric motor more efficient 'anyway'?? Well, its upto 80% efficient its quieter than the 'human' engine. its torque is transfered directly from the energy source (unlike a human which has to use loadsa energy to support it body weight transfer during motion) EVs actually 'like' wieght..it helps increase torque it doesnt have to sweat or have a recovery phase!

And its 'heart' stops beating when its not in motion. we still have to pump blood around our body while not 'in motion'

  • @ogicabp4u Internal combustion engines like the ones used in cars are heat engines. Their efficiency is inherently limited by the Otto cycle. Electric motors are not heat engines and therefore not limited by thermodynamics.

  • as many videos, they just show what we can do but it seems for every year we don really get any closer to having less pollution

  • Well I guess that's because most people are retarded as they keep their ICE instead of going electric

  • yup..most people dont know ...they simply arent ready for the change...the typewriter was on sale for 10 years before many people even businesses bought it in the 1920s...simply because people where so 'used to' writing letters. It was the 'done thing'. Just like driving gas cars. Also people still think EVs are slow. I have an EV motorcycle (I changed the controller to an idustrial one - OUCH !!) ::)))

  • what is the name of this song?

  • dude, how can you say theyre dirtier? the only way there is any pollution from an EV is from the energy source and the discarding of the batteries and motors. do you realize how much we are dependent on foreign oils? do you have any clue of what would happen if we let oil companies do whatever they wanted? itd be total chaos. theres about $250 billion dollars or so left in oil in this earth, and thats money the oil companies are trying to suck up for there selfs.

  • Fuck all naysayers such as LatteLiberal, he is still living during the Jurassic era. I don´t give a fuck about what he´s saying. Electric cars are here now, and the facts shall be presented right this time, people will be aware about all the positive facts about the electric car, and also the negative facts of course. But in the end they will realise that the electric car is by far the best solution.

  • Vote YES to US jobs - build windmills and other renewable energy sources. Vote YES to freedom - quit fighting other people's wars. Vote YES to stop funding terrorism - use no foreign oil. Vote YES to freedom of religion - let people worship the way they want to. Vote YES to taking responsibility - get a PHEV.

  • @milofonbil sorry cant do this i love my 1989 Ford Falcon 302 V8 way too much, driving nice and slow while cranking foghat slow ride. I dont see why a compromise cant be made, Why cant we have both like we have tv and radio, Someone needs to deveolp renewable plant based fuels which power current engines and configurations. These cars are kinda like a disposable battery, they may be healthier air wise, but landfll wise just as bad and probably have lot shorter life span.

  • @hambone9119 You can certainly have both - Electric cars and fossil fuel cars. Electric cars run on renewable or fossil electricity (nuclear power is NOT renewable), rechargeable batteries, have far fewer moving parts, less maintenance, but have an expensive rechargeable battery. The fossil fuel cars run on disposable everything and, their internal combustion engine is very inefficient. There is a finite amount of oil. And Ethanol and BioDiesel are renewable fuels for a while

  • @milofonbil Lithium batteries and pretty much the rest of an electric car can be built to be renewable and recyclable. Lifespan - electric motors run far longer than internal combustion engines. Enjoy your V8 while we still have oil for the next 30-35 years or so. BTW ... That big pipeline from Canada to Texas is being built for China and India. They are going to quickly use up what's left of the oil the first third of this century.

  • @milofonbil whats funny is ive had my falcon for 5 years havent change the oil once, still runs and it is surprisingly very quite for an old car, Have you seen the brazillion Volkswagon kombi van it runs on petrol and something else but it is flexi engine i dont see why car companies dont make an engine to run on fuel and also say peanut or canola oil it would save the ocean in the long run.

  • @hambone9119 Oil changes remove metal particles from friction and decomposed oil out of your engine. Oil changes every 3000-5000 miles will keep your engine from excessively wearing.

Car companies do make flex fuel engines. Look in wikipedia: List of flexible-fuel vehicles by car manufacturer

  • @milofonbil What would be cool is if they made an electric car that could similate the noise of classic 60s muscle car yet look identical, then i would swith gladly, And as for Hummers i hate them biggest waste of fuel piece of crap ive ever seen, Ill take the 60 plus year Land rover defendor, thats still in production.

  • @hambone9119 I'm sure someone will figure out how to hack the car noise file required when electric cars drive slowly.

There are clubs out there that will do conversions. Check out the pages at SeattleEVA. org

  • @milofonbil Thanx pleasure talking with you dude, and for once a decent convo on youtube.

  • @hambone9119 I figure when people resort to screaming and calling names, they can't back their own argument with facts and are in no position to learn anything. On the other hand, when people are willing to be civil, there is room for interesting exchanges of ideas. I can learn from them, they can learn from me. Thanks for being civil and thanks for sharing your ideas.

  • re: LatteLiberal

==But what about sulfur? SEE ITS DIRTIER!==

You must have missed the part which said:

"If U.S. air quality regulations are enforced, any extra sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter, and mercury are contained at the source and not released into the environment."
