How can positive pressure be bad, and they make me use a CPAP machine, which is short for Continuous positive airway pressure?
Does that mean not using it, like I've been guilty of, is actually a good thing?
I can't stand the idea of something being attached to my face while I sleep, and the previous machine was stopping my breathing, b/c something was wrong with the machine.
There's nothing like having your breathing stopped to make you afraid to use a new one.
"spontaneous" nebulizer treatment??? really??, strong mathematics and chemistry skills??? Way to give the nurses more reasons to hate and laugh at us dude....way to represent, idiot
At 1:10 is where he goes wrong about one thing, Nurses and Doctors do stand at a bedside for 24 hours and make a impact on a patients life and cares a lot for them but so does a Physician Assistant .. Guessing he never heard of one
Respiratory therapy sucks ..do nursing instead... there is more job security in nursing plus your options are almost endless...if you lose a job in nursing you can almost walk across the street to another hospital and find another job that easy. In respiratory that is almost impossible especially in the summer months. Do yourselves a favor and go into nursing...
What is a "spontaneous" nebulizer treatment? It did not look spontaneous to me. I think he planned that treatment long ago. A spontaneous nebulizer treatment is when the doc orders one because they don't know what else to do and albuterol is cheap. Or is that a Default Neb Treatment?
For an associates degree in respiratory care/therapy most of the time it appears you only need one chemistry and math course. The college I'm looking to go to for it requires intro to chemistry and intermeddiate algebra
I dont know how she only took intro to algebra and chem. I have to take a year of inorganic chemistry, microbiology, and college algebra and statistics for my program. we also rotate through johns hopkins for clinicals, definitely a top knotch education
elementary algebra??? You mean COLLEGE algebra. That's what I had to take. I don't even think they offer elementary algebra at a college. What? Did she have to go back to elementary school to take it? haha!
@vi3tb0y04 Lol... well, actually they do have elementary algebra at some colleges, but for the college i was in it was a remedial class that you had to take until you could pass the entrance test needed. From there you move to College Algebra and so on.
At ELAC, bonehead Physics is required. It covers topics such as when the diameter of a tube decreases x, resistance increases by a factor of 16, if I recall correctly. As far as using math, it depends on the setting. Usually, a typical workload precludes the ability to micro- manage. Make ventilator changes based on being judicious and blood gases.
it depends on the program. My program required either 2 semesters of general chemistry OR 2 semesters of general biology. I did not need Physics. However, I did take physical science.
thanks for this video im in Respiratory Therapy ! 2nd year student and i like i love it !! next week im going to the hospital for the 1st time ! :S i think im lil scared ! to do things on real humans
A and P are a neccesity, as far as math goes, know how to multiply and divide, but you do use a calculator. Bed side manner, charting your drugs right after a treatment, and working in an unselfish way with nurses will ensure you a career of fulllfilment in this awesome profession.
physical therapy has a lot of patient care? it's one of the pre-req clinical experience for med school...

I want to ask you a question, b/c the doctor didn't make any sense when he tried to explain it.
My daughter's in a high-level coma, and they put her on a ventilator.
The doctor told me the ventilator can make her breathe normal, but that doesn't mean her breathing is normal.
What the hell does that mean in terms of whether she can get off of it?
vickiormindyb 1 year ago
@vickiormindyb I am truly sorry to hear this. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

@vickiormindyb best way is avoid the ventilator. if she is on the vent support try to wean off it if possible. positive pressure isnt normal.

Do you have to take Chemistry and Physics to become RT?

Yes, you do. especially math.

my sister in law is a RT and she only taken elementary algebra and intro chemistry

Are you kidding? We had to take a full year of Chem, and physics 1 and 2.
