As a former musician myself, I can say there is absolutely nothing more frustrating than a bad mix. Some idiots just don't know how music should sound. Elton John's reaction here was 100% justified; in fact, I wouldn't have blamed him for walking offstage.
@alreltney The drums were too loud tho. And @alreltney, I'd say you're the worthless one and a stupid waste of space hater. Do you have a successful career that spans 40 years? How much have you done for charity? Moron.
@tman12563 The drums should have been your block head idiot. And since this is anonymous I will admit that I have probably done as much for Charity as Elton has per Capita. So stick it up your ass and my career has lasted almost 40 years and I am 52 not 64. So before you spew off please cap it and if we want anything out of you we'll take the top of your head off and dip it out with a ladle, shit for brains.
@alreltney You're a coward and a moron. I'm sure you're as famous and successful as Elton John and I'm Queen Elizabeth. "since this is anonymous". In other words, "Since you don't know who I am I can be a big hater and lie and spew shit I know nothing about."
The drums should not be the loudest thing you hear. The drums support the singer and the rest of the band. You're a bitter person and you have to waste your time putting ignorant hateful things on YouTube. Get a life.
The drums should be at least as loud as anything else, since they (as you, yourself, said) DO support the singer and the rest of the band. This is a concept that Garth Brooks never seemed to grasp....
@Drumrdude1973 Did you listen to the vid? The drums were too loud. They were drowning out the singer, not supporting him. You can hear him straining his voice to try to compensate. Elton wrote the music and he's performing it. I think he would know what's too loud and what's not. He's not just having a hissy fit. He's addressing the morons that don't deserve to be working with someone of his caliber.
@tman12563 LOL fuck off faggot, I left a response but some faggot can't handle the truth. Now piss and fuck off. Additionally you cannot argue with a fuck that has an EJ fixation and lives for the day to lick his little lolly pop in some ally after a show.
This is true indeed! I was at a Rainbow concert in NYC in '78 and Blackmore just walked off the stage because the sound in his stage monitor just wasn't right. The place was packed (AC/DC was on the bill also) and we had to wait 40 minutes while sound techs got egomaniac Blackmore's monitor just right. 40 min. later Rainbow returns to the stage and does like 3 songs. Blackmore puts down his guitar and just walks off the stage again (to boos from the audience) and the concert ended right there.
well sir or knight or what ever asshole is made an ass of himself that night or did he just show himself that night? a true gay person. great song asshole singer. stick your dick in ice cube.
@dave525c I think he was pissed because with the drums being too loud it throws everything off and Elton wants nothing but a good show for his paying audience. His being gay nothing to do with it.
@Drumrdude1973 Think about it, dipshit. If you can't hear the instrument you're playing over everything else it makes everything more difficult. Don't fucking gay bash.
That's what monitors are for, Jackass! ...and since you wanna escalate a verbal debate into more of a "physical" discussion, if you should happen to reside anywhere here in So Cal, we can do just that, dick-fuck....
when singers and artists work at festivals like this one they may be working with there own band but not there own sound team they have to work with the one that is there and that a bitch somtimes becasue they dont know what each singer needs sound wise and then things go wrong
What can you say? Elton is a treasure. He has a good heart, hes been to hell and back with drugs. I love is music, especially Saturday night is alright for fighting, Tiny Dancers, Don't let the Sun go down on me, and Old Soldiers talking just to name a few.
I think that this reaction from Elton was the best in this situation..
The drumer played really very too loud, poor Elton was sitting close to him ,so he even could not hear himself an piano(it's a big problem for a singer,if he cannot hear himself)..and loud drums also changed the whole melody of the song..
Elton is professional, but bad situation for him..they should check it before the live performace!
(by the way EJ was amazin in PRAGUE 10TH JUNE 2010)
I know what thats like, it really sucks! one time we opened for mark farner of grand funk and they didnt even turn the monitors on! the generally do this to fuck with opening bands so they dont sound as good as the headliner,
Though Sir Elton seems to be a bit hot-tempered, his rage here is pretty understandable; but if I were him, I simply wouldn´t have bothered to start singing and waited till the problem was solved instead of angrily struggling to go on with the song. I just can´t understand why he didn´t do it. To me that´s not precisely the best way of enjoying singing.
I saw Elton the same year in 1995 in Salt Lake, and he had a bit of a tantrum with his feedback speakers. It was interesting that this was the same year and looked like the same thing-- complaints aboout his feedback speaker to his left. He didn't say anything to us in the crowd about it- we could just see he was upset, but as he does here too, kept the song sounding professional, if we weren't watching we wouldn't have known something was wrong.
Meatloaf is right..anybody who has every performed knows what it feels like to get up in front of people and have your performance affected by someone else's mistakes....I think he does a awesome job with the song under the circumstances!
Yeah, Elton is a legend...one of my very favorite piano musicians. Just don't piss him off. I've been to many of his concerts. He is a stickler for accuracy and the audience knows this. When EJ performs, he makes the rules, so if you're in the front row stading up dancing and security asks you to sit down, expect EJ to lose his cool, swear, and disappear only to return in a new outfit and continue ruling the show, which is his anyway.
But surely with the money and talent that is put in to a show like this he should have seen that it was OK before he took to the stage. Did he not do a sound check or is he above that sort of thing now? It would have been more proffesional had he not behaved like that knowing how close the cameras were. I'm glad that none of my rock heroes behave like that on stage when I've paid good money to see them. Perhaps it's a double bluff and he did it because that's what people want to see!
If you have ever been at the mercy of other peoples problems and or incompetance you would understand. No mater what Elton sucks it really is a matter of people doing he job that they are paid for and often times at these type events the tech is sub par.
he has every right to be angry, sound crews have all day to make sure the sound is right! if he cant hear is monitors he forces his voice end result voice gets fucked! these guys get paid well its there job to have it right , they are not the ones looking like cunts in front of thousands , when youve performed live in front of thousands youl; know where both elton and i are coming from
"DRUMS ARE TOO LOUD!!!" No, the synth and the guitar are too loud. The vocals are too quiet and actually it's quite hard to hear the bass drum. You're not a sound engineer for the BBC by any chance are you?!?!
When you look at Eltons lips you will hear it: Drums are too loud - not for the puplic but in his left monitor. Thats fact - it was written in a magazin.
I love Elton, but he's such a dork sometimes. I'm pretty sure he realized at the time how ironic this whole thing was (performing The Bitch Is Back while at the same time acting like a total bitch... He's got a temper, but he's also got a big heart, and he's not dumb.)
He knew, but he just couldn't help himself. He wanted to sound good for the crowd.
Oh, don't be a butthole. Be glad tke34 even used correct grammar. You dont have to make yourself seem more intelligent by making someone else look dumb that had nothing else to do with you in the first place.
He was just agitated because of probs with the sound system and the difficulties of resolving those probs during the song. He hardly needs anger management classes for that: most performers would be the same.
To his credit, he acknowledges he has a filthy temper - particularly behind the scenes - but feels awful after an outburst and is quick to apologise for being unreasonable.
absolutely fucking hilarious, hes like a man possessed, i wish i could hear what he was saying to those guys his body movements and face are brilliant, anger management classes required mr john!!!
I believe his comment was quite specific festivals are out but he did appreciate the patrons, staging and sound must meet a variety of performers unfortunately not all are happy with this compromise
yeah i agree he had a good reason but i mean i dont think he had to make a big deal out of it "ON STAGE" lol i mean he coulda told them after the show or what not you know?....oh well he still is great :)
...being a festival of course none of his normal sound crew would have set it all up which is why he says 'I'm not playing any of these f*cking festivals again'! YOU TELL 'EM ELTON!!!
I think he is annoyed about his monitoring. According to his official website he has 2 monitors each side (1 each for vox and 1 each for piano/band) and the sound hit his head from both sides at 118dB - the same as a jet plane taking off! He is particularly picky about his monitoring. By the way he is shouting at his drummer I guess he has too much of the drummer/band and not enough of himself...
The German TV says that he is annoyed that his auto-cue (that displays his lyrics in real time) has fallen over. Elton does not always use auto-cue's when live - it is more of a fail-safe for live TV recording (which this is).
Despite being distracted, he still put on a great performance.

...being a festival of course none of his normal sound crew would have set it all up which is why he says 'I'm not playing any of these f*cking festivals again'!
