Hey, I got a question about distortion pedals: I seek a pedal that can provide sufficient distortion for stuff like Metallica, Dream Theater, Pantera and Megadeth. My gear is a Schecter Hellraiser C-1 FR and a Marshall MG50FX. Could you give me some advice? Thanks in advance!
I really like the sound of this pedal and was wondering if you can recommend something similar that's not as pricey. I'm looking for a nice rock distortion, not too metal yet still with that punch but also less treble. Of course considering the limitations of my set-up. Anything around similar this pedal?
It's been a while but I have a similar question! I am looking for a good distortion to replace my Boss DS-1 (not interested in modding it either). Have a good fuzz but need a distortion for smooth hi gain liquidy leads and articulate runs like vai and satch and that crowd but less skilled. strat with duncan hot rails & a les paul with pretty hot pickups (PRS tremonti) into Randall RT30 amp that is a little bit obscure (a 30 watt class A 2x12 celestion vintage 30s).
I like metal, classic rock, and kind of a spacey rock sound. So, I'm planing on purchasing a Hiwatt amp because I use alot of pedals and I'm looking for kind of a... hit you in the chest type of distortion pedal. any suggestions?
ok so i got a epiphone les paul custom and im playing through a fender frontman 212r. id like a distortion pedal with good tone. one that isn't too fuzzy or heavy. which one would be a good one for me. i was thinkin the ocd fulltone. any suggestions?
@xraycatt097 any tool can turn the mids off, lows and highs up and drop D chug..metal is gay....vids are perfect for displaying CLEARITY in this pedal...not how much you can ruin a sound
i have a really shitty little beginners combo amp, and i can't really afford a better amp, but can afford a distortion pedal. is it a good idea to get one?
Which of these distortions are the best: Mad Professor Mighty Red Distortion, Vox satchurator, MI audio crunch box, marshall guvnor, or the dunlop mxr distorton III?
I am looking to get a good distortion, but with not so much low end. Also, I wanted something high gain, without sounding harsh or gritty. Also, I wanted the pedal to be affordable.
@ProGuitarShopDemos Ok, I got a Les Paul and a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 2x12... and I can't decide between a Mad Professor Mighty Red, a MI Audio Crunch Box or an OCD...
@BekkersBelly The Mighty red is pretty Marshall-y and compressed. The Crunch Box has a heavy emphasis on mids, which would suit you if you're into classic rock. The OCD is a little rattier like an 18 watt Marshall but can also be used as a clean boost. Honestly, the best way to decide is to try them all with your rig. We have a 60 day return policy for this exact reason. Good luck,
This pedal is NOT affordable, but is wxactly what you described your ideal distortion to be. Crunch Box is pretty bass heavy. Guvnor is bass heavy too. Satchurator is pretty bright, too bright for my taste. Distortion III has a neutral EQ but isn't very high gain. I would say check out a Hipkitty Oxblood. $140 and is quite bright if you ask me.
I don't know about the best, but for the music you play I would look at the Vox "Satchurator". Its satriani's signature pedal, so you've got his sound, and it is also very versatile.
Im looking for a HIGH gained destortion pedal.. wanna play 90's rock.. as in like high satriated gain..smooth and compressed..but it has to have quite a bit of gain.. I think this will do it but on the site it says it should be stacked with a OD pedal to get large amount of gain this scares me.. will this have enough gain on its own to play say 90s foo fighters and greenday and other high gained sounds that arnt really OD sounds?
It means there is no digital elements between the input and the output of the pedal.
It is a big difference cause the oposite - part of the signal path is digital - means you have to convert it from analogue form to digital, then again from digital to analog to get it back to your amp, and it loses much of the signal because of the conversion. It is just like listening to the CD on the hi-fi amp and speakers versus connecting mp3 player to your hi-fi amp and speakers ;-) Take care
This is a really good feature. It is a little know fact that boss are really bad for signal disintergration through their bypass. For example the boss pedal tuners (which are generally on bypass but in your rig all the time) take around 17% of your guitar signal. Stick a few more boss pedals in and you are not left with much.
Would it be a good distortion if I use an American Standard Telecaster and a Gibson Explorer with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe? Thanks!

Maybe you can afford a less shitty amp for the same money this pedal goes for. On the other hand... a good distorsion pedal comes very handy...

On it's own it's quite vintage sounding, maybe if you put it through an already overdriven channel.
