Thanks so much for posting this GREAT video! I was thinking of this song this morning, then I enter the title and THERE IT IS! Doncha just LOVE youtube?!?!? If only I could "manifest" cheesecake like that! Thanks again!
@BowToMySkill............. It was and is called western swing. A more jazzy version of Country music. And by far, the best form of country-western. :)
I loved Pee Wee my dad Dempsey Hovland use to book him Red and the Collins sisters for halftime entertainment at his (my dad's) Texas Cowgirls barnstorm female basketball team games. They played men 1949-1977 sometimes opening for the NBA in the 50' 60's and Harlem Globetrotters. He also booked Pee Wee ,Red and the Collins sisters at State Fairs and his (my dad's ) Miss American Teenager pageants.
I was pokey as a kid, always the last one ready, so my Dad used to sing this to me. Thanks for posting it - Dad's been gone ten years, but the song brings back some really lovely memories.
Great stuff. But why is it that they cannot find the steel guitar when he does his break? They zoom into the tic-toc and the rhythm guitar, and everything else except the steel? I'm particularly sensitive to this because I'm a steel player- most people have no idea what that instrument is..I guess it has ever been so..
Pee wee king did not sing it on the record. And redd stewart sings it a hundred time sbetter. Wikipedia: "Slow Poke" is a popular song. It is credited to three writers: Pee Wee King, Redd Stewart, and Chilton Price. Actually Price wrote the song in 1951, as she thought the song described her friend, King, very well. King recorded the song and Stewart did the vocal. Price gave rights to the other two in exchange for publicity, as she felt she knew nothing about the music distribution business.
Pee Wee and Redd made dozens of appearances on my television show on WAVE-TV. Sometimes Pee Wee sang Slowpoike" and Tennessee Waltz" just for the fun of it. I loved them both. I miss them.
Loving the Polish Cowboy....and Redd, too

You are correct sir! I believe it is a major directorial flaw when the instrument that is playing the lead is not being shown on the screen.
