  • that mojave would have never had a chance to buzz at me. Would have met a .357 snake shot round to the dome long before.

  • We loose 3 to 6 baby calves yearly to rattler bites.

40,000 people die world wide yearly to snake bites,

kill them all, and the world would be a safer place.

  • @donze52 Safer without the rattlesnakes? I think not. "Kill them all" ? some people just don't think things through, do they? Its a fact that rodents in this part of the country carry fleas that test positive for buebonic plague. So, lets kill all the snakes, let the rodent population boom, and spread the plague. Sounds like a brilliant plan.

  • @DVFDrinkOrDie

we have bull snake and whip snakes to take care of rodents,

rattlers cost the ranch I work at on average 6 calves a year.

at $1,300 each, we kill all rattler on sight. just can't wipe em out

or we would have. have a safe winter

  • @donze52 It's been my observation that bull and whip snakes prefer to eat mostly lizards while the rattlers feed almost exclusively on rodents. But that's california.(gopher snakes) I suppose the snakes food preference would vary according to location

  • @DVFDrinkOrDie

you got different rattlers then, , snake scientist speaking to our group.

told that rattlers main food is toads here abouts. second was grasshoppers, then mice as a third most eaten meal. the guy said, rattle snakes kill about 2% of the rodents killed in the world. Rattlers are to dangerous to man, pets, and livestock. we kill on sight:

If you was local, I would show you some graves of people killed by rattlers.

see anti venom does not always work. have a safe winter

  • @donze52 I might argue that the snakes were here first. If you choose to bring cattle into the snake's domain, you should accept the losses. It's highly unlikely that killing the rattlers on sight is making any difference in your losses.

  • @DVFDrinkOrDie

what really hurts, is many farmers paid not to grow food any longer, vast land track turn to weed patches (rattle snake nurseries) our nieighbor home next to such field nornally killed 3 rattlers in the yard yearly. Now the number is over 50 a year. They call it a war zone. carry hand gun to walk outside. go ahead call us monsters, you aint here.

  • @donze52 Well I am in the Mojave desert and I know what you mean. Not 10 minutes from my house I can count 50 of them in a few minutes. My point is, the snakes are there so I'm not about to go putting a house or a farm there, then complain about the snakes.

  • @DVFDrinkOrDie

10 minutes means they can be on your door step and kill a family member at any time.

yes anti venom works, in 1971 it cost 40 for a vile, today it is over $5,000

at that rate no one will beable to afford. and will die.

I do not kill non deadly snakes, but those that can and do kill

I despatch. we can't wipe them out, but we keep their numbers down and safe lives of livestock pets and children

most I ever killed in a single year over my life was 200.

  • Beautiful images. Gorgeous snake. I don't believe in killing them for the sake of just killing them though. I'm going to be hiking the PCT in a couple months, the last thing I want to see on the entire trail is this snake. The Mojave Greens' venom is nasty. Yet, I still wouldn't kill one.

  • @HerperTyler19 I think killing them and displaying their skins is honoring them more than letting them live. If I see any rattle snake anywhere people go I kill it. I do not value any animal more than a person. I disagree with you on not understanding why anybody could kill them. Thats all i meant.

  • @HerperTyler19 they taste great and the skins tan to make very nice outfit accessories.

  • You have a few really good images here. Thanks for documenting!
