@TaskrHD ... yeah. They do a lot of deployments (usually 6 months on, 2 off) and have a casualty rate of twice that of infantry in any branch. The job is dangerous, but rewarding. IED's kill more soldiers than everything else combined and it's our job to make them safe.
I was wondering, depending on your job is it harder to go up in rank? I mean for enlisted if I choose this would I be less likely to go up in rank then say if I go something else? I dont want to be e-3 the 38 years Im in there
You have to test for rank, so it depends on how well you do. You should automatically make it to E-4 after a certain amount of time, but you have to test for E-5.
The base pay depends on your rank in any service but the EOD guys get special pay added onto there base pay. Plus the signing bonus and re up bonus' aren't all that bad. lol
If you want to see a total goatrope of an EOD, just type in "Okinawa EOD" in the search bar of youtube. it will be the first video that pops up. Anyone know what the hell this guy was thinking?
Sorry Bubba, but the job of EOD is stopping things from blowing up. All of those are controlled explosions after the munitions have been recovered. One advantage of being in EOD is you don't have to worry about getting wounded or chewed out if you screw up.
yoyoofloco, I understand that this was a controlled explosion. I didn't mean to make light of the terrible deaths and injuries caused by the weapons or munitions as you call them that do not get recovered before they are used. I just thought that this video looked cool and it shows that you guys are doing a great job of confiscating these weapons so that they can be blown up and not used against our troops. I hope that clarifies what I meant. And I'm a chick not a bubba.
Well, OK, there are a lot of women in EOD now and they seem to be doing a pretty good job. And trust me, it is a lot more fun blowing things us instead of trying to stop it. If you are young enough, give it a shot. I was in from 66 til 88. Got to do it in the States, Vietnam and Korea. EOD also stands for Every One Drinks which is even more fun.
I like the goofy/genius/evil laughs in the background.
