  • Probably my favourite recording of this! Excellent!

  • Die letzten drei absteigenden Töne einfach abgeschnitten... So ists keine runde Sache, tststs...

  • Wie sieht die Schlampe denn aus???

  • @artois54

  • Wonderfull song :) Have to learn it till christmas.... hope it'll go well :)

  • Because the recording was inside a room, some echoic sounds gave a drawback. Anyway the song and the singer's voice are excellent.

  • Such a beautiful performance! I'm learning this piece for an audition, so I've played this video about 30+ times now and counting. (:

  • "oh mann leute, was soll der mist über israel und palästina? hier gehts im bach und um ein wunderbares werk, eure diskussion hat unter dem video überhaupt gar nix verloren. konzentriert euch lieber auf die musik und cillt mal ,geht echt gut mit dem stück" Humans, despite Bach and our (fond?) belief in our "highness" of our "progress" seem always to bicker! Palestinians and Israelis could well both love to hear this music...

  • But the best performance on youtube offers Britta Westerholt I think

  • @bobo678100: I totally agree with you and hope those who are still searching for their favorite version will find chance to listen to Britta Westerholt's and that they will find it as delightful as I have.

  • Nice wife beater dress....

  • Wonderful performance! The singer is spectacular, and the instrumental ensemble is fabulous. I must agree with another commenter, though--it is quite awful that this video omits the final two chords!!!

  • love the japanese sub

  • Why cut out the final chord in this nice aria?

  • très belle voix

  • Kirchschlager?

  • Perfect *-*

  • @23peteful

    Antisemit!

  • Lovely music

  • In this interpretation Bach is Angelika & Angelika is Bach!

  • Angelika, der schonste , der liebste, der beste

  • wonderful:)

  • Sublime autant que j'aime !

  • gorgeous, gorgeous and even more gorgeous. I am totally in love with this.

  • обалденно!!!tanto libera!!bravissima!!!

  • Her dress seems good - she seems to to have natural dignity and quite some beauty. She sings beautifully.

  • She is a very good singer, but couldn't she put on a more apropriate dress?

  • what are you, a fashion designer??

  • Oh, no sir. I am not, but they teach us in the Conservatories how to dress for stage. And not only this, but if I am to enter a Catholic church, I am asked to cover my shoulders. And no, I am not muslim :)

But as I said, she is a very very nice singer!! Learning how to sing as she does is far more difficult than learning how to dress for different occasions.Maybesomehting happened to the ment to be dress , and she had to get one on the spot...it happens.

  • loredinusa .. perhaps you should stop eating prunes...it seems they are affecting your mental state.

  • @loredinusa Hello. I understand your point about dressing modestly in churches. However, there is nothing risque about how she is dressing, and it does not distract from her wonderful performance. By the way, this might be a Lutheran church with no such requirements for dress.

  • Wonderful music!

  • Good and clear, though I am sorry she cut the phrase starting at 3.07, to hear that sung in one can be truly amazing.

  • Thats really Pop Music. Thanks Johann.

  • What is the name of the singer?, please.

  • Angelika Kirchschlager, under info.

  • Bereite dich, Zion, mit zärtlichen Trieben,

Make yourself ready, Zion, with tender desires

to see with you soon him who is most beautiful, most dear!

    Deine Wangen

    Your cheeks

    Müssen heut viel schöner prangen,

must today befar more beautifully resplendent,

Eile, den Bräutigam sehnlichst zu lieben!

hasten, to love your bridegroom with the greatest longing!

  • Thank you for Sharing !

  • my dad listens to this every sunday

the song is ok but when you hear it EVERY sunday you gonna hate it.

  • I wouldn't hate it... I never get bored of Bach.

  • i can understand both of you =]

  • i had to sing this for Bel Canto choir 08. It was a piano accompaniment tho... not actually hard to learn even if u mainly speak english

  • maybe she just woke up and was late, even more impressive imo :)

  • I'm playing this for my final woodwind test. It's on a clarinet, though.

  • Wunderschön, einfach wunderschön! DANKE JESUS, dass DU Musik erschaffen hast! :-)

  • jesus haha

  • Amazing; she sounds terrific (even if girlfriend needs a stylist, in my opinion).

  • l.o.l. My sentiments, exactly!

Her dress should match the caliber of the orchestra AND the music (her voice included).

  • How inappropriate to sing Bach in such a dress. You can see in her manners she has no clue what she is singing about. Good singing, though.

  • It's inappropriate only because you think so, I find nothing inappropiate about it. Nothing says that you can't sing bach unless you wear a hijab. Open your eyes to the world.

  • Ok, I will be direct here... her dress (open shoulders) is sexy, and her movements are as if she sings about lost love. However, the music is to draw the listener's attention to other things which, may now be disrupted by her kind of erotically aggresive style.

  • Well, I don't see it as sexy, and her movements does not look as she was singing about lost love in my opinion. I would guess that you take it to be that because you are expecting perfomers of Bach to be dressed "properly". And, if you find this style to be erotically aggresive I would recommend you to see some present day musicvideos. This is nothing.

  • Awesome Vid....thanks....Does anyone know where this was filmed?

  • Beautiful singing by Kirchschlager. In response to a few earlier posts, I would say this: the question of 'Greatest Composer' is unanswerable, but it is certainly true that Bach and Mozart were among the greatest composers, and both of them had a wonderful knack of writing for the human voice so that it sounds completely natural and effortless.

  • She is my favorite mezzo singing today. Thanks for posting this!

  • wundervoll!!!!

  • thank you very much. She's great. I've been on her concert on the 5 of december.

  • Fantastisk musik! Soli Deo Gloria!

  • this is practically a lovesong.

  • adorable part from 2:49 to 3:17

  • <3<3 I just love it :))

  • the greatest german composer.

  • if not the greatest composer...

  • yes,

bach is with mozart the greatest compsoer in the world.

  • I couldn't disagree with you there. Actually though I don't like stating that one composer is better than another as at the end of the day it's down to personal preference. There are many great composers but I would say, Bach and Mozart would rank as two of the truly greatest composers that ever lived.

  • fantastic

  • fantastic orchestra superb soloist. who are they, who is she, where are they performing ....and what pitch are they playing in? bio info CD's available?

  • From the video titles (looks like a program aired on Japanese TV), it's mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager singing a piece from JS Bach's Christmas Oratorio, with the Freiburger Barokorchester. No info on date (maybe early-mid-90s?) and availability on CD - you might want to do a web search for that.

  • Just found out that this excerpt from the Christmas Oratorio of J. S. Bach is included in Kirchschlager's "Bach Arias" CD.
