  • I saw two things I didn't like- sprayed the cleaner on the engine and using carburator cleaner. Everything else is just how I would do it.

  • @prmass1 shouldn't you take out the MAF first since the throttle cleaner could damage the sensor?

  • you should use a throttle body specific cleaner most throttle plates have a special coating on them that you dont want to remove or damage

  • Would WD-40 be a completely terrible idea instead of the cleaner mentioned here?

  • @myndhedd wow WD-40? ouch! That's not a cleaner, and will probably make the problem even worse.

You need to use carburetor cleaner or sometimes they call it throttle body cleaner.

Doing this when the engine is not cool or when the car is running can cause fire. It is better to do this process when the engine is completely cool and the car is not running.

  • @TutorialTipCom -WD-40 ? Where do you see that? Look closer. It is a small red can of Carb cleaner from M.O.C. industries.

  • my "mechanic" friend changed my oil and after i left my engine light came on so i went back it came back as being the idle sensor so he went into the throttle body and sprayed it with carborater cleaner in pushed the valve back with a screw driver to clean it now its idling high and i didnt do that before he touched it ..so why is it happening? and what can i do to fix it? 2003 nissan sentra ser 2.5L

  • @arniebarb123 2003 NISSAN SENTRA SE-R 2.5L 2500cc L4 FI [QR25DE] DOHC

    1) Your sensor might've been on the verge of failure.

    2) Your mechanic sprayed an electrical connection causing it to fault.

    3) Your throttle body was scored.

    3) The engine needed to relearn idle...I hope it was this one.

If the year and model listed above is yours, your engine might be on watch.

Search the following below and read the section for the QR25DE engine.

  • I took my after market air intake off and theres a mesh plate in the way of where the throttle is. The mesh doesnt look removable. What should I do?

  • @queculo0 There is a snap ring that holds that screen in place. Remove it, then carefully remove the screen.

  • This video was awesome! I am not mechanically inclined, but felt comfortable enough to try doing this after watching the video - and it worked like a charm! My only other comment is that I could not locate the throttle to open up the valve, So I was able to push & hold it open with one hand while using the other to clean in there. Worked like a charm, so thank you for this!

  • This def sounds like what my car needs. I suppose it's not an easy fix if you really don't know what your doing? What would be the aprox charge for this?

  • @Chickness1 -Most shops would charge 1/2 - 1.0 hours labor. So, a repair shop that charges $75 per hour, would cost you at most $75.

  • would opening the throttle up let fuel in?

  • @ibanezkid07 No. Nofuel flowson a fuel injected engine unless it is running.

  • I just cleaned my throttle body and it was caked with burnt and dried carbon, including the throttle plate. I decided to take it off and clean it. It wasn't easy to get the carbon off but I got it off.

  • The cleaner would not get into the oil, unles you empty the entire can into the engine. It does not take much spray to do this repair.

  • yes it would but not to much is thin out while the eingne is runing

  • Won't the carb cleaner break down the engine oil?
