@H4nz08 The M110 is for all intents and purposes a large highly modified M16 with free floating handguard. The rifle is maintained similarly. The only additional fouling is the outer barrel which is inside the sound suppressor.
This was the orientation course for the new equipment for the snipers of Wisconsin's 128th Infantry Brigade. I don't think the Army issues 110's to DM's, but I know they do issue M14's to DM's. I also knew some DM's in 2004 that were issued M24's, but the Army it seems has gotten more strict on not allowing non sniper trained personnel to use sniper weapons systems (M24/M110/XM107)on deployments.
Just an old vet saying thanks for stepping up to do a thank less job, don't hesitate to pull if it calls for it. It's better to get into trouble for shooting to early than to late. Cover your buds.
i hate the rules that my country has put inplace. i hate how i cant buy a full auto weapon which by the way one bullet will kill you as easaly as 30 will and how i cant own a silencer. yea i can get paper work for it but do you really think i want to have the government knowing what i have FUCK NO. if the president declares martial law i would be some of the first people they came after.
That's overly paranoid. If you want a silencer buy one. It's pretty easy. If you are afraid of the government to the point you wouldn't want a rogue government to know what you have, you probably wouldn't stand up for anything if it went rouge anyhow.. Something to think about.
@manoftin2 not really i just dont want them to cause for one its none of there buisness and 2 im more on the stealth side of things and ehat they dont know will hurt them. lol
@mybradyboo You think you're badly done by? In Australia we aren't even allowed Semi-Automatic Firearms. Getting a pistol requires membership at a shooting club and consistent attendance for 12 months, and then you can buy a pistol, which you have to leave at the shooting gallery for another 12 months before you can take it home. and then you have to regularly go to a shooting gallery to use it. if you don't, your licence is revoked and you have to sell it or take it back to the gallery to store
I don't know if you're talking about rifles or night vision. The M24 uses Leupold rings, that's kind of a mistake because the day optic until the M24A_ was a PVS10 meaning the day optic was until very recently removed for night optical sighting. The newer A series model adds a rail that allows use of a PVS26 (UNS). The 4th ID uses a M24A whatever with rail and PVS26 and Ops 3rd model silencer for the sniper and a M110 SASS for the spotter. They are also issued M4's if they feel the need
The only reason not to use Larues, is that with the UNS there is no reason to remove the scope, so the Larues only represent greater cost. The only reason to remove a sniper day optic has in he past been installation of the night optic. That's a thing of the past with the new rifles including the 110.
The paint is John Norell's moly coating in tan. It's good, but the carbon does stick to it and turn it a dirty color. The reliability issues were the trigger and scope mount, when the trigger is properly adjusted from the factory it works well, the scope mount screws loosen and render that product crap, simple scope ring replacement solves that problem. Our government could write a blank check God knows it would cost less than the $3trillion the Democrats have spent in the last year.
clarification - I think you guys should have access to at least three ws, a 308 auto like this, a 300 - 338 type bolt gun and some kind of amr type 50 cal., and lots of input on how to be deployed. And all the training time you could possibly want - you're out there getting shot at to keep idiots like me safe, if it was up to me, I'd cut soldiers (especially snipers) a blank cheque. But... I'm not the government. Just a very, very appreciative civilian from North of the border. all the best.
I'm a sucker for the bolt guns, but I suppose this is a classic case of "horses for courses", or right tool for every job. If the M24 was originally chambered in 300 win mag like (from what I can tell) the sniping community wanted it to be, as opposed to desk jockeys and bean counters who eventually made the decision, now the guys keeping all of us safe would have better choice of tool for every job. A lot of guys tell me about reliability issues with this ws - can you comment?
The M110 is a better weapon than a 24. The 110 just needs a pair of MkIV scope rings and it's a pretty solid system. Some of the guns have bad triggers, but the ones that work, work. It's a snipers weapon more than the M24. The silencer kills flash and sound, drops recoil-allows the sniper to spot his own rounds sometimes- the night vision is better. semi-auto is better for urban hides. If I were comparing it to a 300win mag m24 with Sound suppressor I'd miss the bolt gun more.
I'd love to see this rifle platform in .338 Lapua, even if that means capacity is down from 20 rounds. Bushmaster bought a company working on a "AR-30" chambered in .338 Lapua but hasn't released anything on new products, if they did, I'd be making a new hunting rifle.
Yeah the rifle was a little less of a magic killing stick than the future weapons guy made it out to be, but I do think it represents an enhanced capability to Army Snipers. With a little more training and time on the system I do feel that it will prove to be the best sniper system ever fielded to regular US Army snipers. It's like an M21 only better in almost every way. Lighter, better optics, better all climate capability, better balance, and lighter.
Awesome weapon you've got there. You can take out 3 guys in 5 seconds with that gun at 400-500 yards if you shoot well. The silencer helps too as they won't know what happens. Probably the best weapon introduced lately in any army...
Extremely luck to be in a unit that issues something like this...
Is it fairly easy to clean?

army issue DMR or sniper?

Wont give the same grouping as an M24 but will still be more practical for military use.
