Many of the Blaxploitation films were directed and/or produced by African Americans, so if they seem embarrassingv40 years later, it cannot be blamed on white racism. The violent, sex machine portrayals of Black men were tolerated, if not embraced by Black writers, actors and directors. Thankfully, Black portrayals on film diversified.
