Oh man. After I watched this on Netflix, it became my favorite movie. I cried at the end. Being 13, I couldn't imagine waking up as a 30 year old, your'e mom not recognizing you,and being forced out of the house. But the main reason i cried was because he left a fine and successful woman.

I was 11 when this picture came out. I loved this film as I could so relate to some of the social issues josh faced as a kid. Now as a grown up in my 30 s. I wish I could make a wish and go back to 1988 sometimes.

Actually, the age of the boy is 13 (not that that makes it any better) but from watching the featurettes off of the DVD I have, they "validated" the intimate relationship by depicting his 13th birthday in the film--rite of passage, of sorts. Audience response was still okay, getting laughs for how he celebrates the next morning with the high five. Fine line they walked when making the film, yes, but it worked.
