@manueld12 I used to speak rather highly of Mr. MacFarlane, but this shows him up for what he really is - unimaginitive and petty. Your comment is right on the money. It's fairly obvious that Mr lindelof and Mr Abrams were making it up as they went along, but I still immensely enjoyed it, nonetheless. I am rather angered by his asessment of the series beginning to "suck very quickly" as this smacks of hypocrissy. Last time I checked, Family guy was going down the toilet bowl!!
@TheChuchulainn Having watched the entire new series, I would say that the only episode that gets pass marks is the one in the haunted house. Other than that, the "storylines" are weak and very reminiscent of previous episodes. Say what you want about American Dad, but I think it's a far superior show to Family Guy these days.

Family Guy is not a plagarism of the Simpsons, if you honestly think it has - you have neither wanted nor comprehended the style of either show. American Dad and Family Guy are vaguely comparable..but as for being consistently aligned with each other in terms of plot and style, they are not. The Cleveland show... I can't comment on because I refused to watch it from the beginning.

Get this, Lost really isn't that great. It's watchable yes but so cheesy in places - McFarlane has it spot on, there are loads of times throughout the storyline where you can just tell they've been improvising. Filling in gaps in the plot with ideas they've hurried to come up with probably the night before. Also trying to make every episode a cliffhanger just doesn't work, it makes the whole show seem pretentious and fake.

Seriously, anyone who was watching it on TV at the time was beginning to have doubts that the writers knew where they were going with it. They may well have, but that wasn't the impression that viewers got. The cages? Jack operating on Ben? Pointless flashbacks... Season 3 sucked.

Watching all the Lost episodes for the second time now and it amazes me how every piece of the puzzle fits perfectly... Lindelof and Cuse are geniuses with an insane attention to detail as far as I'm concerned. Family Guy however, was hilarious for a few episodes... after that, not so much.
Did he realize that they (creators of lost) did in fact have a conclusion set for the show? all the foreshadowing is there, it's just marbles buried in sand to find.
Oh, and even though this clip is from 2006, to this day I've noticed that seth mcfarlane STILL relies on the voices of his overrated characters as an attempt to get laughs whenever he makes a public or media appearance.
In my opinion, the man is an overrated tool, with very little writing talent whatsoever. His writing comes down to sequences of random flashbacks, gag humor and cheap laughs with little regard towards coherency, structure or plot; and for him to come out and even attempt to slam the writing in one of finest examples of dramatic television there is is so wrong it's not even funny.
I saw the entire first season and tried to watch the second season and guess what? I realized halfway through that that the writers had no fucking idea what they were doing.
The writers knew exactly where they were going from the pilot, you prick. At the start of season 3, which is the weakest area of the show (and is still better than just about everything else), they didn't know how much more time they had to stretch the storyline out into. What people don't realize about Lost is that when they started it they had no idea it would last as long as it has. Unlike Family Guy, some shows actually have plots.

Seth was saying what casual fans were thinking during the terminally frustrating second season of Lost. Season 2 and the first half of season 3 were a blatant attempt by the creators to pad the episode count and stretch the story out so they could have plots for the series duration. Thank god ABC and Darlton decided to just focus on story telling. We know now that season 6 will be the shows last. And if season 4 was any indication, the best is yet to come. They know where its going now. Yay!

I agree with you about the 3 shows being exactly the same, but I enjoy Family Guy and American Dad. On the other hand, I don't even care to watch The Cleveland Show, because a spin-off based on Family Guy can't work for me, especially not with Cleveland as the main character. Quagmire might have worked for me. Giggity giggity....

To all the people lashing out at Seth - this speech was made in Nov. 2006, while the first half of Season 3 was airing. And as we all know, that was when the constant stalling from the writers got beyond a joke.
Seriously, anyone who was watching it on TV at the time was beginning to have doubts that the writers knew where they were going with it. They may well have, but that wasn't the impression that viewers got. The cages? Jack operating on Ben? Pointless flashbacks... Season 3 sucked.

Watching all the Lost episodes for the second time now and it amazes me how every piece of the puzzle fits perfectly... Lindelof and Cuse are geniuses with an insane attention to detail as far as I'm concerned. Family Guy however, was hilarious for a few episodes... after that, not so much.

In my opinion, the man is an overrated tool, with very little writing talent whatsoever. His writing comes down to sequences of random flashbacks, gag humor and cheap laughs with little regard towards coherency, structure or plot; and for him to come out and even attempt to slam the writing in one of finest examples of dramatic television there is is so wrong it's not even funny.

The writers knew exactly where they were going from the pilot, you prick. At the start of season 3, which is the weakest area of the show (and is still better than just about everything else), they didn't know how much more time they had to stretch the storyline out into. That is what Seth is saying. He is not saying LOST is rubbish, because he is a FAN!

What people don't realize about Lost is that when they started it they had no idea it would last as long as it has. They just thought they would make a short little cult show that would live on for a while after it got cancelled. When the show really expanded in the first season, then they had to expand the mythology as well. So shut up Mr. McFarlane, not everything is as easy as writing some lame animated sitcom. Unlike Family Guy, some shows actually have plots.

Seth was saying what casual fans were thinking during the terminally frustrating second season of Lost. Season 2 and the first half of season 3 were a blatant attempt by the creators to pad the episode count and stretch the story out so they could have plots for the series duration. Thank god ABC and Darlton decided to just focus on story telling. We know now that season 6 will be the shows last. And if season 4 was any indication, the best is yet to come. They know where its going now. Yay!
