She is pretty alright but seems to have aged in the recent promo ads for a beauty brand. But have to admit that this beauty is lucky to have found another sponsor after being dropped by the previous brand Marie F Bodyline. Am a fan of her acting and look forward to her first Singapore movie.
lol vicki zhao has pretty much typecast herself into these roles now. not a big fan of her to be honest, but my little cousin thinks she's the sun and the moon.
Word has beeen spreading that marie france spokeswoman, she has been dropped from her role abruptly after an issue with the diet pills she took after her pregnancy.. anyone heard about it?
@DuruCreatives Maybe you are looking for propaganda where this is none. For instance, in movies about the Roman Empire the Germanic tribes are almost always depicted as being barbaric. It wasnt 100% true but it also was not false. Plus, there has to be an antagonist to make the story meaningful. In a historical sense the mongols were pretty territorial and constantly choose war instead of diplomacy.
The Wei dynasty Mulan was portrayed as being a subject of and serving with loyalty in the film (historically known as "Northern Wei") demised in 535 CE. I didn't realize it had a propaganda dempartment which outlived the dynasty for nearly 1500 years into modern time and after staying in oblivion for centuries, suddenly emerges to light and starts making propaganda again.
@alwaysbehumble you clearly cannot read good sir because I have already had this conversation with another user and I was having a joke. Look before you speak.

yah i seen it now awh well i thought dere wud be a surprise ha but movie was good. onli if it were real they wud have noticed dat shes a woman not a man.
It was a great movie. Havnt seen a good movie like this for a long time. Not only movie but in this movie there were alot of quotes which i really loved .. and i wonder why this movie is not a hit?
I think they came up with the idea to make this movie.. cuz of the movie red cliff.. where viki zhao sneak into the wei camp and pretend to be a soldier to gather info.
Actually, it's not a true story as there are no proof to state that it is, but it may be based on one - or several - real stories. The poem is vague about the entirety of the Mulan Story b/c of length but did not really hint that she was ever "discovered". Hua, though, is not an ancient Chinese surname and there are speculations on whether Mulan fought on the Chinese side or on the invaders side. Unlike the Disney version, in the poem, Mulan could sew and it never hinted that she was a tomboy
Do not say "tomboy"--it implies that you think that interests/hobbies/enjoyed activities are a determining factor in femininity/masculinity, which they are not.
To me the Disney version implicitly implied that Mulan's interests were not feminine. I'm offended that the animators thought that Mulan couldn't be good at warfare while possessing grace and "womanly" skills that women of her time were expected to be good at (the opposite of what the poem implied). I think the Disney version does make her a tomboy, the most popular version that Western culture knows her for. If it was offensive, that was not what I was going for.
I didn't have enough room to comment more on the poem. But, it is not impossible (and actually quite likely) that many women disguised themselves as men to fight in wars, as China has a long history of wars. I would not be surprised if it were based on real stories, but I would be surprised if it wasn't a bit of historical fiction. Her supposed surname just doesn't match up with the side she was supposed to be on at the time of the conflict.
that what i was thinking.. of all those war in ancient china is very likely a few woman dress up as men and enter the army. But becoming a general.. is pretty unlikely. If you watch a lot of kung fu flick like me.. there always sum chick with super awesome martial art that kick a bunch of guy ass.. so this movie didn't really stand out for me.
@Longmachao Actually you are wrong, I don't know about Mulan (since her story is recorded as a ballot) however, there are quite a number of woman warriors in the Tang dynasty's Army of the Lady" (娘子軍 led by Princess Ping Yang. Han dynasty;s Mu Guiying .
You know very little of Chinese history but watch too much TV.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Give me proof that a chinese woman in the past join the army and rise up to the rank of a general. Your talking about a princess, she could been easily used as a figure head like any other royalty. Your assumption that my idea come from watching tv show is retarded.. since its pretty much uncommon anywhere in the past a woman can be a general. your right i don't know much about chinese history.. i'm not chinese so i don't really care.
@Longmachao It is a historical fact. She helped her father overthrown Sui Dynasty and was made princess after Tang Dynasty was created.
Another one that come to mind is Fu Hao where her tome was discovered recently. Mu Guiying is one of the "Women "Generals of the Yang Family", a historical fact.
this doesn't follow the disney's mulan at all and it isn't supposed to XD i did love disney's version of the mulan story :DDD love love ^^ it had an awesome funny talking dragon, how could you not love that

I don't think we can tell whether it's a true story or not as her name does not appear in historical records, but we do have a ballad written in the ancient time called 木蘭詩 or 木蘭辭 (both titles are commonly seen) telling Mulan's story, and her surname has been discussed a lot in ancient China. In some dynasties her surname was said to be 魏 (Wei) and in others she has other surnames. It was until the 18th or 19th century that she was given the surname 花(Hua).
Vicki is really suited for this role but i still cant get over the fact that it strayed so much from the animation lol cus it had more humor and less violence of war o.o
