  • I loved the disney version of mulan and I came across this version. I will never be able to watch Disneys Mulan again, not after watching this movie.

  • I have yellow fever... and I approve this message.

  • Just watched it. This was the saddest and most amazing movie ever!!

  • I can honestly say I have never ever cried more in a movie! It was the best I have ever seen

  • Awesome Movie!! I must see it, and vicki zhao wei looks so pretty.

  • so sad at the end :(

  • i've seen this movie many times, zhao wei's performance is better than good, love her for years, the only asian actress i adore

  • HUNNS ARE NOT FALL!!!!

  • she played the role remarkably. she is Mulan.

  • =D I SHALL SEE THIS MOVIE!! :D it looks awesome :D !!

  • She should of played as Chun Li in the Street Fighter movie.

  • I heard that a another Mulan film is in the works and Ziyi Zhang will play Mulan

  • they should bring this movie to america. this looks freaking AWESOME!!

  • She is pretty alright but seems to have aged in the recent promo ads for a beauty brand. But have to admit that this beauty is lucky to have found another sponsor after being dropped by the previous brand Marie F Bodyline. Am a fan of her acting and look forward to her first Singapore movie.

  • vicky is hotttttttttttttttttttt

  • yeah! go "Jackie Chan´s son" go!

  • lol vicki zhao has pretty much typecast herself into these roles now. not a big fan of her to be honest, but my little cousin thinks she's the sun and the moon.

  • I love Vicki Zhao Wei!

Word has beeen spreading that marie france spokeswoman, she has been dropped from her role abruptly after an issue with the diet pills she took after her pregnancy.. anyone heard about it?

  • Ah, is this based n the three kingdoms wei,shu and whu ?

  • @ncdaking123 northen wei dynasty, so about 100-200 years after the three kingdoms

  • The Disney version , but rated "R", ha ha :))

  • very good chinease propaganda as allways !!!

you allways show the Turkic-Mongol (Turanians) Nomadic Tribes as Barbarians,

it"s just a big expansive LIE !!! also to show the UYGHURS as barbarians !!!

but never forget , the Turkic Turanian World will come together soon and we will take revange for our Uyghur Borthers/Sisters

    Goal is Turan !!!

  • @DuruCreatives

dude the Northern Wei started out a nomadic dynasty too. The ethnic origins of the rulers are Xiangbei

  • @DuruCreatives Maybe you are looking for propaganda where this is none. For instance, in movies about the Roman Empire the Germanic tribes are almost always depicted as being barbaric. It wasnt 100% true but it also was not false. Plus, there has to be an antagonist to make the story meaningful. In a historical sense the mongols were pretty territorial and constantly choose war instead of diplomacy.

  • she's like Joan of Arc in France

  • @solitairemh I was just thinking of the same thing. But this one is in China.

  • Have you ever read Bleach? It's like, so inappropriate for this movie. I mean, just call Bankai and Senbonzakura those bastards.

  • good movie, only watched it really because of zhao wei, damned!!! she's married with a kid.

  • I love this movie!!

  • I liked this movie so much I watched it twice in a row!

  • So this is based on the disney version right?

  • @privateer456 The Disney version was based off of the actual Chinese poem the Ballad of Mulan. We got it from China haha

  • Amazing film!

  • propagnda I'm affraid

  • @ComedyRoundTheCorner

Firstly, it's a shame you can't spell properly when you're going to talk about something as controversial as propaganda.

And finally, you have got to be kidding me?

  • @linca2 its a funking joke you fool. I love it how you judge my intelligence after you see one comment that I posted -.-

  • @ComedyRoundTheCorner

Well at least you love my judgement! ... =D

Sarcasm isn't easily interpreted online. Truce?

  • @linca2 truce :)

  • @ComedyRoundTheCorner

    Propaganda?

The Wei dynasty Mulan was portrayed as being a subject of and serving with loyalty in the film (historically known as "Northern Wei") demised in 535 CE. I didn't realize it had a propaganda dempartment which outlived the dynasty for nearly 1500 years into modern time and after staying in oblivion for centuries, suddenly emerges to light and starts making propaganda again.

    Your intelligence awes me

  • @alwaysbehumble you clearly cannot read good sir because I have already had this conversation with another user and I was having a joke. Look before you speak.

  • It was a great movie. Havnt seen a good movie like this for a long time. Not only movie but in this movie there were alot of quotes which i really loved .. and i wonder why this movie is not a hit?

  • Comment removed

  • I think they came up with the idea to make this movie.. cuz of the movie red cliff.. where viki zhao sneak into the wei camp and pretend to be a soldier to gather info.

  • putting a talking dragon into a serious movie like this would make it a mere mediocracy

  • where's mushu? i want mushu

  • Actually, it's not a true story as there are no proof to state that it is, but it may be based on one - or several - real stories. The poem is vague about the entirety of the Mulan Story b/c of length but did not really hint that she was ever "discovered". Hua, though, is not an ancient Chinese surname and there are speculations on whether Mulan fought on the Chinese side or on the invaders side. Unlike the Disney version, in the poem, Mulan could sew and it never hinted that she was a tomboy

  • Do not say "tomboy"--it implies that you think that interests/hobbies/enjoyed activities are a determining factor in femininity/masculinity, which they are not.

  • To me the Disney version implicitly implied that Mulan's interests were not feminine. I'm offended that the animators thought that Mulan couldn't be good at warfare while possessing grace and "womanly" skills that women of her time were expected to be good at (the opposite of what the poem implied). I think the Disney version does make her a tomboy, the most popular version that Western culture knows her for. If it was offensive, that was not what I was going for.

  • I have wondered if Mulan were based on a true story, because after a while it began to seem like it could have been.

  • I didn't have enough room to comment more on the poem. But, it is not impossible (and actually quite likely) that many women disguised themselves as men to fight in wars, as China has a long history of wars. I would not be surprised if it were based on real stories, but I would be surprised if it wasn't a bit of historical fiction. Her supposed surname just doesn't match up with the side she was supposed to be on at the time of the conflict.

  • that what i was thinking.. of all those war in ancient china is very likely a few woman dress up as men and enter the army. But becoming a general.. is pretty unlikely. If you watch a lot of kung fu flick like me.. there always sum chick with super awesome martial art that kick a bunch of guy ass.. so this movie didn't really stand out for me.

  • @Longmachao Actually you are wrong, I don't know about Mulan (since her story is recorded as a ballot) however, there are quite a number of woman warriors in the Tang dynasty's Army of the Lady" (娘子軍 led by Princess Ping Yang. Han dynasty;s Mu Guiying .

You know very little of Chinese history but watch too much TV.

  • @Longmachao It is a historical fact. She helped her father overthrown Sui Dynasty and was made princess after Tang Dynasty was created.

Another one that come to mind is Fu Hao where her tome was discovered recently. Mu Guiying is one of the "Women "Generals of the Yang Family", a historical fact.

  • Why bother talking to him? He's not Chinese and doesn't even care.

  • this doesn't follow the disney's mulan at all and it isn't supposed to XD i did love disney's version of the mulan story :DDD love love ^^ it had an awesome funny talking dragon, how could you not love that

I look forward to this "more realistic" version though, it looks AWESOME >:]

  • this was an awesome movie! i don't have any words to describe how amazing it was. need to buy it ASAP!!!

  • this movie isnt the same as the animated mulan, is itt?i thought so and i guess it would have been better that way.

  • is this a true story O.O

  • ya,,,it's a true story in ancient China.but this movie has been adapted I guess~

  • I don't think we can tell whether it's a true story or not as her name does not appear in historical records, but we do have a ballad written in the ancient time called 木蘭詩 or 木蘭辭 (both titles are commonly seen) telling Mulan's story, and her surname has been discussed a lot in ancient China. In some dynasties her surname was said to be 魏 (Wei) and in others she has other surnames. It was until the 18th or 19th century that she was given the surname 花(Hua).

  • yes i have researched...its intriguing

  • im downloading this movie right now!

  • Whhhat?! Im gona watch this. It doesn't seem like the mulan I know though.

  • i watched it last night:D it was soo sad:'( it had some relationships with the disney, but not much...

  • I watch it already....nice show!

  • where did you watch it? which cinema?

  • Any cinema...cant remember..u can check it out at the internet before going to that cinema

  • the story's like the cartoon's?

  • No, the cartoon is a disney version for children.

This is the more focusing on her love life and more of the true hua mulan story.

  • no this's the original one~

  • 投名狀也有"這就是戰爭"這句話

  • Does anyone know when it's coming out in the US?

  • If Vicky Wei is in this movie, i must watche.

  • doesent looks so good but ya maybe on DVD is ok.

Vitas cast i dont know why but ok...

Costume design seems to be borrowed from some other Movies who came out last year. Compered with Ran (1985) is this here a small Episode.

but i should watch the full Movie first

  • I watched it. It was a great film and I cried buckets. haha.

  • i cant wait to watch this movie !!!

  • Vicki is really suited for this role but i still cant get over the fact that it strayed so much from the animation lol cus it had more humor and less violence of war o.o
